  • Patent number: 7519688
Abstract: A wireless communication system allows mobile users to access a resource from a content server. The wireless communication system includes a browser that allows mobile users to access resources through a wireless application protocol (WAP) compliant server. The (WAP) compliant server connects the browser to a content server. This connection allows resources to be passed between the browser and the (WAP) compliant server. The browser is further configured to transmit a request that includes an address for a resource, a protocol to be used, and one or more textual parameters encoded into a binary data packet. The wireless communication method includes generating a request for a resource; translating a textual portion of that request into binary data at the browser; transmitting the request to a wireless gateway; and converting the request into a format that is compatible with a protocol used by a receiving network.

  • Patent number: 7507904
Abstract: An electrical cable includes a first electrical conductor longitudinally surrounded by a first insulator, and a second electrical conductor that is substantially parallel to the first electrical conductor. The second electrical conductor is substantially longitudinally surrounded by a second insulator, and the second insulator includes a recess to partially expose the second electrical conductor. A metal layer longitudinally surrounds the first and second insulators. In another embodiment, an electrical cable includes a first electrical conductor and a second electrical conductor parallel to the first electrical conductor. An insulator longitudinally individually surrounds each of the first and second electrical conductors, and the insulator includes a radial recess through which the first electrical conductor is accessible. A metal layer longitudinally encapsulates the insulator and fills the recess such that the metal layer contacts the first electrical conductor through the recess.

  • Publication number: 20090012792
Abstract: A speech recognition system is provided for selecting, via a speech input, an item from a list of items. The speech recognition system detects a first speech input, recognizes the first speech input, compares the recognized first speech input with the list of items and generates a first candidate list of best matching items based on the comparison result. The system then informs the speaker of at least one of the best matching items of the first candidate list for a selection of an item by the speaker. If the intended item is not one of the best matching items presented to the speaker, the system then detects a second speech input, recognizes the second speech input, and generates a second candidate list of best matching items taking into account the comparison result obtained with the first speech input.

  • Patent number: 7472020
Abstract: A navigation system for a vehicle is disclosed, where the navigation system operates in a route planning mode and a route guidance mode. The navigation system employs an interface device that provides route guidance information to a user during the route guidance mode. The route guidance information provided through the interface device may be audible and/or visual, as through a voice and/or visual indicia on a display screen. The navigation system also comprises a voice control system that responds to vocal commands issued by the user. In response to user vocal commands, the navigation system uses the interface device to provide the user with secondary information relating to a planned route. This secondary information may include, for example, locations and items that are ancillary to principal route guidance functions, such as special locations, map topography, environmental information, and the like.

  • Patent number: 7460995
Abstract: This invention provides a system for speech recognition comparing speech against stored character strings in memory. Speech is transformed into spoken character strings. To accelerate the identification, a small group of characters from the stored character strings and the spoken character string are compared and the probabilities for identification may be calculated from those results. Those stored patterns, where the probability for identifying the speech exceeds a predetermined value, may be selected for further processing. The selected strings may have the remaining characters added to the group of characters for the next comparison. Alternatively, the number of characters for comparison may be incremented by a predetermined number in a step-by-step fashion, reducing the number of comparisons in subsequent steps as the probabilities for identification rise.

  • Patent number: 7451471
Abstract: An optical ring network for use, for example, in a motor vehicle, includes an optical data line that defines a ring network, a playback transducer and at least one data source connected to the optical data line, where the data source provides compressed data onto the optical data line. The network also includes at least one data sink connected to the optical data line, which receives the compressed data from the optical data line. The data sink includes a bit stream decoder that decompresses the received compressed data and provides the decompressed data to the playback transducer. The local network transmits audio and video data in compressed form via the data line, and has a single bit stream decoder, centrally situated at the respective data sink, for decompressing the audio and/or video data. As a result, the individual data sources no longer need their own bit stream decoder for decompressing the data.
