  • Patent number: 4913900
Abstract: A single formula, mild, alkaline permanent wave conditioning composition provides a strong, long lasting curl like an alkaline permanent wave composition but leaves the hair soft like an acid permanent wave composition while minimizing further damage to already damaged hair. The composition contains a water-soluble alkali salt of thioglycolic acid, such as ammonium thioglycolate in an amount of about 2% to about 22% by weight; a water-soluble alkaline dithiodiglycolate, such as diammonium dithiodiglycolate in an amount of about 0.1% to about 18% by weight; a hair softening and/or moisturizing agent, such as glycerine in an amount of about 0.1% to about 20% by weight; and sufficient additional alkali, if necessary, to bring the pH of the composition to about 7.5 to 8.7. This composition is easy to use and apply without damaging the hair while providing a strong, tight curl and leaving the hair unexpectedly soft. The composition can be lotion or water wrapped and can be used with or without heat.

  • Patent number: 4830774
Abstract: An antidandruff shampoo composition includes a suspension composition for particulate matter to achieve an unexpected reduction in shampoo separation while maintaining acceptable shampoo viscosities and foaming levels. The suspension composition includes a suspending alkanolamide and/or a wax ester in conjunction with an ethylene-maleic anhydride resin or a polyacrylic acid resin to yield anionic surfactant-based antidandruff shampoos of improved stability and aesthetics.

  • Patent number: 4764174
Abstract: A nitrophenylenediamine dye composition includes a long chain alkyl (8 to 18 carbon chain length) sulfate detergent, such as sodium lauryl sulfate or ammonium lauryl sulfate together with a sultaine (sulfobetaine) surfactant in a ratio of sulfate/sultaine in the range of 1:1 to 10:1, and particularly in the range of 6:1 to 9:1 to achieve unexpectedly increased deposition of specific nitrophenylenediamine dyes onto human hair.

  • Patent number: 4719104
Abstract: A human hair conditioner and methods are disclosed. The conditioner consists essentially of an aqueous composition containing 0.25-4 percent static-reducing agent, 0.05-1.0 percent cationic film-forming polymer that contains a plurality of quaternary nitrogen atoms, and 0.25-4 percent distearyldimethylammonium salt, wherein the weight ratio of the static-reducing agent to the cationic polymer is about 2:1 to about 20:1.

  • Patent number: 4692586
Abstract: A pilot light arrangement for a hand-held appliance such as a curling and styling iron is disclosed, wherein the arrangement facilitates convenient visual inspection to see if the appliance is operating. The arrangement includes a pilot light mounted within a housing portion of the appliance, and a fiber optic bundle which extends through a swivel cord mount of the appliance. The fiber optic bundle is positioned in light-transmitting relation with the pilot light, with the end of the fiber optic bundle positioned at the exterior of the appliance being readily visible irrespective of the orientation of the swivel cord mount with respect to the appliance housing.

  • Patent number: 4678475
Abstract: A dialkyl quaternary ammonium compound falling within the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different straight chain alkyl radicals C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 wherein n is predominantly at least 12, and particularly where n equals predominantly 12-16, unexpectedly prevents Ext. D & C Violet No. 2 dye from staining skin while providing better deposition of the Ext. D & C Violet No. 2 onto human hair and wool to decrease or eliminate hair and wool yellowing. These fatty radicals R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are generally derived from coconut oil, lauric acid, myristic acid, or palmitic acid and An.sup.- is any anion, particularly the halogen ions and particularly the chloride ion.
