Abstract: A method is provided for influencing the properties of cast iron by adding magnesium to the cast iron melt and measuring the oxygen content of the cast iron melt. Magnesium is added to the cast iron melt until the oxygen content of the cast iron melt is approximately 0.005 to 0.2 ppm at a temperature of approximately 1,420° C. A sensor for measuring the oxygen content in cast iron melts contains an electrochemical measuring cell containing a solid electrolyte tube.

Abstract: A shine-through, low pressure discharge, hydrogen lamp has a metallic housing structure shielding the discharge space in a lamp bulb filled with hydrogen. Abstract: A stimulation electrode is produced having a porous film layer and being partially coated with an insulating parylene (polyparaxylylene) film, whose insulating film has a dielectric breakdown voltage of greater than 100 V. Parylene is deposited on the entire surface of a porous film coating and then partially removed again by plasma. After the partial removal of the parylene, this porous film still has a capacitance of greater than 15 mF/cm2 in a physiological NaCl solution at a frequency of 0.1 Hz. For the stimulation electrode, the transition from the insulating film to the porous film is formed so that the film thickness of the parylene film decreases continuously. In this way, a stimulation electrode having a porous film layer and being partially coated with an insulating parylene film is provided, whose electrode on the non-insulating parylene film-coated surface has a capacitance of greater than 15 mF/cm2 in a physiological NaCl solution at a frequency of 0.

Abstract: A measurement device, in particular anemometric measurement device of a flow sensor, contains film resistors in one or more opening(s) of a cover or a hollow body. The film resistors are fastened according to the invention in the opening(s). Two film resistors differ with respect to their resistance by one to three orders of magnitude. In an anemometric measurement device of a flow sensor according to the invention, a temperature sensor and a heating capacity sensor are placed in a carrier element. The temperature sensor has a temperature-measuring resistor and a heat conductor as platinum thin-film or thick-film resistors on a ceramic substrate. For self-cleaning of an anemometric measurement device of a flow sensor, in which a temperature-measuring element and a heating element are placed in a carrier element, the temperature-measuring element has a platinum thin-film resistor on a ceramic substrate for temperature measurement and is heated with an additional platinum thin-film resistor.
Abstract: A method known in prior art for determining the occupation of the surface of a silica glass component with impurities comprises taking a sample, a process in which at least some of the surface of the silica glass component is brought in contact with an acidic desorption solution, and surface impurities that are to be analyzed are accumulated therein and are subjected to an element-specific analysis. The aim of the invention is to create a method which is based on said method, allows the occupation of the surface of silica glass components to be determined accurately and reproducibly, and is suited for determining small amounts of impurities within the order of magnitude of 1010 atoms/cm2 also directly in situ. Said aim is achieved by the fact that taking the sample encompasses contacting the component surface with an acidic desorption solution containing water, nitric acid, and hydrofluoric acid, the nitric acid concentration in the desorption solution amounting to 1.

The local system for the liberation of an active principle is provided as medical product or drug.
Abstract: To improve a generally known method for producing a tubular semifinished product from fluorine-doped quartz glass such that it is possible to produce a tubular semifinished product of fluorine-doped quartz glass with an inner bore of high quality while the efforts for making or treating the same are as small as possible, the present invention suggests a method comprising the following steps: (a) providing a substrate tube consisting of fluorine-doped quartz glass; (b) forming, in a deposition process, SiO2 particles by means of plasma burners and in the presence of fluorine, and depositing said particles in layers on the cylindrical outer surface of the substrate tube rotating about its longitudinal axis with formation of a mother tube consisting of fluorine-doped quartz glass; and (c) elongating the mother tube in an elongation process to obtain the tubular semifinished product.
Abstract: A method of forming a layer of an electrically conductive metal-silicide material, comprises steps of: providing a Si-containing workpiece; forming a Ni-doped Co layer on a surface of the workpiece, as by sputter deposition utilizing a Ni-doped Co sputtering target; and reacting the Ni-doped Co layer and workpiece. Embodiments include performing a salicide process to form electrically conductive Ni-doped Co silicide functioning as electrically conductive contacts to the gate electrode and source and drain regions of a MOS transistor. Also disclosed are PVD sources, e.g., sputtering targets, comprising Ni-doped Co and utilized for forming the Ni-doped Co layer.

Abstract: A lance for receiving a sensor or sampler for metal melts has a top part and a bottom part provided for arrangement on the sensor or sampler. The top part and the bottom part are detachably connected to each other by a plug-in coupling, wherein the plug-in coupling has two coupling parts that can be inserted one in the other. Of these coupling parts, one coupling part is arranged on the top part and the other coupling part is arranged on the bottom part of the lance, and the two coupling parts are inserted one in the other in the longitudinal direction of the lance. One of the two coupling parts has, on its open connection end, an opening or groove that extends from the front face of the coupling part in the longitudinal direction of the lance and has, spaced from the front face, an extension formed in the peripheral direction of the coupling part. On the other coupling part a raised portion is formed that engages in the extension.

Abstract: Processes for the recovery of ruthenium from materials containing ruthenium or ruthenium oxides or from ruthenium-containing noble metal ore concentrates, with the steps of A. the introduction of the material into a highly alkaline alkali hydroxide melt in the presence of nitrate as oxidising agent with the formation of an oxidised melt residue with water-soluble ruthenate (RuO4)2?, B. the dissolution of the oxidised melt residue obtained in water, C. the addition of a reducing agent, D. the precipitation of the metals formed, can also be used for separating off selenium. Optionally, ruthenium is separated off by distillation, instead of precipitation, following step B, with the steps of 5C the treatment of the ruthenate-containing solution with an oxidising agent, 5D distilling off of the RuO4 obtained, 5E taking up of the RuO4 from step 5D in hydrochloric acid. By way of further subsequent purification steps, processes for the recovery of ruthenium targets are obtained.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium, including the step of reactively or non-reactively sputtering at least a first data storing thin film layer over a substrate from a sputter target. The sputter target is comprised of cobalt (Co), platinum (Pt), a first metal oxide further comprised of a first metal and oxygen (O) and, when non-reactively sputtering, a second metal oxide. The first data storing thin film layer is comprised of cobalt (Co), platinum (Pt), and a stoichiometric third metal oxide comprising the first metal and oxygen (O). During sputtering, any non-stoichiometry of the third metal oxide in the first data storing thin film layer is compensated for using oxygen (O) from the second metal oxide in the sputter target, or using oxygen (O) from the oxygen-rich gas atmosphere.
