  • Patent number: 8400584
Abstract: A backlight which arranges light emitting diodes on a side surface of light guide plate adopts the structure which allows the easy removal of the light guide plate from a mold and makes it difficult for a stress or the like to influence the fine structure of a light incident portion of the light guide plate. In a liquid crystal display device having a backlight which radiates light to a liquid crystal panel, LEDs which constitute a light emitting element are mounted on a light guide plate which is mounted on a backlight, and edge portions of the light guide plate are tapered such that a width of the light guide plate is increased in the removal direction of the side surface of the light guide plate. Further, an ejector-pin mark is formed on a lower surface of the light guide plate by pushing an ejector pin in the removal direction of the light guide plate.

  • Patent number: 7905613
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to improve the color reproduction capability of a liquid crystal display backlight using white LEDs. A backlight of the present invention includes: a light guide plate 6; a light diffusing optical waveguide 3 disposed adjacent the light guide plate 6; a plurality of white LEDs 1 disposed on the light diffusing optical waveguide 3; and single color LEDs (red LEDs) 2 disposed on respective opposite sides of the light diffusing optical waveguide 3; wherein light from the white LEDs 1 passes through the light diffusing optical waveguide 3 and enters the light guide plate 6 through a side thereof, whereas light from the single color LEDs 2 is diffused by the light diffusing optical waveguide 3 before entering the light guide plate 6 through the same side thereof. Thus, the light diffusing optical waveguide 3 mixes light from the white LEDs 1 and single color LEDs 2, resulting in improved color reproduction capability of the backlight.

  • Patent number: 7855761
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device which uses light emitting diodes as a light source, a backlight can efficiently house a heat radiation plate even when an area of the heat radiation plate is increased by taking the radiation of heat from the light emitting diodes into consideration. Light emitting diodes are arranged on a metal substrate to form a plate-shaped light source portion. A heat radiation effect is enhanced by adhering a heat radiation plate to the plate-shaped light source portion. The heat radiation plate to which the plate-shaped light source is adhered is constituted as a housing casing thus efficiently housing the heat radiation plate. A problem which occurs due to the use of the metal-made housing casing can be overcome by mounting a resin-made light guide plate fixing member on the housing casing.

  • Patent number: 7855765
Abstract: In a backlight which arranges light emitting diodes on a side surface of a light guide plate, even when the light emitting diodes having a thickness larger than a thickness of the light guide plate are used, it is possible to manufacture the light guide plate with high accuracy by injection molding. In a liquid crystal display device having a backlight which radiates light to a liquid crystal panel, LEDs are mounted on the light guide plate formed on the backlight as a light emitting element, and an S-shaped inclined portion whose thickness is not changed is formed on the light guide plate from a light incident surface to a light emitting surface of the light guide plate. Since the thickness of the inclined portion is not changed, it is possible to make the pressure of resin flow at the time of performing injection molding uniform thus manufacturing the light guide plate with high accuracy.

  • Patent number: 7852005
Abstract: The invention relates to a fluorescent lamp with an external electrode used as a backlight of a liquid crystal display device or others. To reduce invalid parts of the backlight, the length in an axial direction of an external electrode of the fluorescent lamp is required to be reduced. Therefore, a concave portion is provided to the end of the fluorescent lamp with an external electrode, and by forming the external electrode in the concave portion, the total area of the external electrodes is secured. Even if the length in the axial direction of the external electrode is short, discharge is stabilized. Graphite is used for the external electrode; however, graphite in which a water glass component is increased to enhance its mechanical strength is used.

  • Patent number: 7847912
Abstract: A liquid crystal display panel includes a TFT substrate and a color filter substrate respectively formed of a glass substrate. By housing the liquid crystal display panel in the inside of a frame having a curved surface, a predetermined curved surface is imparted to a display screen. Using a direct backlight having a plurality of fluorescent lamps, distances between the respective fluorescent lamps and the liquid crystal display panel are set to a fixed value. A diffusion plate has a curved surface substantially equal to the display screen. By mounting respective optical sheets on the diffusion plate, predetermined curved surfaces are imparted to the respective optical sheets. Due to such constitution, it is possible to realize a liquid crystal display device having a curved surface without using a complicated optical system.
