  • Patent number: 8717510
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device intended for increasing the ON-current of a TFT in the pixel while suppressing variation of the ON-current, in which a semiconductor layer and a first n+-a-Si layer in the TFT are formed continuously by plasma CVD. The semiconductor layer and the first n+-a-Si layer are patterned simultaneously. Then, a second n+-a-Si layer is formed so as to cover the upper surface of the first n+-a-Si layer and the side portion of the semiconductor layer. The ON-current can be increased and variation of the ON-current of the TFT can be decreased by forming the first n+-a-Si layer continuously over the semiconductor layer.

  • Publication number: 20140043551
Abstract: In the step of curing a resin for bonding a TFT substrate and a counter substrate each having an alignment film that has been optically aligned by using UV-light, damage to the alignment film due to the UV-light can be prevented without using a light shielding mask. A UV-light absorption layer is formed between each black matrix on the counter substrate. The TFT and counter substrates are sealed at their periphery by a resin that is cured by UV-light radiated from the counter substrate side. Since the absorption layer has a high absorbability to UV-light at a wavelength of 300 nm or less that degrades the alignment film, damage to the alignment film due to the UV-light for curing the resin can be prevented. Thus, provision of a light shielding mask for shielding the UV-light for the display region can be saved.

  • Patent number: 8648988
Abstract: This invention enables forming a photo-alignment film having a large LC anchoring strength in an IPS type liquid crystal display device. An alignment film is adapted to have a two-layer structure including a photo-alignment film and an alignment film with enhanced film strength. The photo-alignment film is formed of a precursor of polyamide acid ester, 80 percent or more of which is polyamide acid ester including cyclobutane. The alignment film with enhanced film strength is formed of a precursor of polyamide acid. After irradiating the substrate with ultraviolet light for photo-alignment, the substrate is heated. Thus, it is possible to achieve a high LC anchoring strength of the alignment film as the whole for photo-alignment, without degrading the mechanical strength of the alignment film with enhanced film strength.

  • Patent number: 8614659
Abstract: A display device for use in compact portable devices is configured for assigning gray levels according to the pixel area ratio and, further includes a digital-to-analog (D-A) conversion circuit for converting digital data to gray-level voltage or analog signals. This configuration reduces the size of the circuit for D-A conversion, thus reducing the space for the driving circuit when assigning gray levels according to the pixel area ratio. The combination of the gray-level voltage output from the driving circuit and the gray-level assignment according to the pixel area ratio reduces the scale of the circuit.

  • Patent number: 8610868
Abstract: In order to prevent dielectric breakdown of TFT or an interlayer insulating film by static electricity with a reduced area at low cost, a liquid crystal display device has a configuration in which an interlayer insulating film and an a-Si film are formed in a display area and a control area inside terminals. Image signal lines and scan lines are insulated from each other through the interlayer insulating film and a-Si film in their intersections. On the other hand, only the interlayer insulating film is formed between static electricity protection lines and an earth line outside the terminals. When static electricity is induced, dielectric breakdown is caused to occur in the area outside the terminals. Thus, the display area and the control area are protected from the static electricity.
