    Abstract: The present invention seeks to decrease the number of pixel defects in an IPS liquid crystal display device. A gate electrode is formed on a TFT substrate, while a gate insulating film is overlaid on the gate electrode. A pixel electrode which is divided into segments is formed on the gate insulating film. The segments of the pixel electrode are normally interconnected by a source electrode. An inter-layer insulating film, on which a common electrode including slits is formed, is overlaid on the pixel electrode. In a case where the common electrode and one of the segments of the pixel electrode are conductively interconnected by a conductive foreign substance, the other segments of the pixel electrode are allowed to operate by disconnecting the conducted segment of the pixel electrode from the source electrode. Thus, one pixel is prevented from lapsing into a full pixel defect.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a display method realizing reduction in a moving picture blurring by forming one frame by two fields of different luminance, in which increase in an unapplied voltage due to shortening of data voltage write time is suppressed. A gate voltage is applied in a light field for a period of time which is twice as long as scan line selection time, thereby decreasing an unapplied voltage. On the other hand, a gate voltage is applied normally in a dark field for the scan line selection time, so that the case where the unapplied voltage increases is eliminated. As a result, an image with high reproducibility can be obtained.

    Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device of IPS mode with a smaller number of layers, a gate electrode is formed on a TFT substrate. A gate insulating film is formed to cover the gate electrode, on which a semiconductor layer is formed. A drain electrode and a source electrode are placed on the semiconductor layer. A planar pixel electrode is formed from ITO on the gate insulating film prior to the formation of the drain electrode, source electrode, image signal line, and the like. This process is performed to prevent the image signal line, the drain electrode, the source electrode, and the like, from being consumed by the cell reaction through a developer during the patterning of the ITO when a pin hole is present in the ITO, in order not to cause disconnection. As a result, it is possible to improve the production yield and achieve high reliability.
