  • Patent number: 5498828
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to improve retainability (distribution coefficient) for C-14 of a radioactive waste solidified body. The waste is solidified with a solidification agent containing a soluble substance which yields an insoluble substance by a reaction with carbonic ions, insoluble carbonates, or a mixture of the above substances. And, as for a pre-treatment, the soluble substance which yields an insoluble substance by a reaction with carbonic ions is previously reacted with liquid waste, and subsequently the solidification is performed. The retainability (distribution coefficient) for C-14 of the solidified body of the waste increases about one order.

  • Patent number: 5325012
Abstract: The features of the present invention are 1) to apply metallization on the bonding surface of a piezoelectric ceramic with a metal likely to react with the piezoelectric ceramic material, 2) when the piezoelectric ceramic material is soldered on the bonding surface, to apply metallization with a metal likely to react with the solder material, 3) to provide between the metallizing layers formed in 1) and 2) a metallizing layer including metal which prevents reaction between the metals and their diffusion, 4) to use a mounting member for the piezoelectric ceramic which has substantially the same thermal expansion coefficient as the piezoelectric ceramic in non-polarization condition and 5) to solder in the non-polarization condition and thereafter to polarize.

  • Patent number: 5218505
Abstract: A superconducting coil system includes an excitation power source, a superconducting coil, a DC circuit breaker connected in series between the excitation power source and the superconducting coil to disconnect them when quenching occurs, a protective resistor connected in a parallel manner to the superconducting coil for dissipating the energy accumulated in the superconducting coil when the quenching occurs, and a switch provided as a bypass of the DC circuit breaker, the switch being closed during the normal operation to pass the energy from the excitation power source to the superconducting coil through a resistor and being opened when the quenching occurs.

  • Patent number: 5162633
Abstract: The present invention relates to a plasma treatment apparatus for making plasma surface processing of a specimen such as thin-film formation, etching, sputtering or plasma oxidation by use of plasma produced through microwave discharge. In a specimen chamber provided with a specimen table for holding at least one specimen thereon, a microwave is introduced from a direction intersecting a magnetic line of force so as to propagate in the longitudinal direction of an ECR region or in a direction along the plane of the ECR region. Since the microwave is introduced from the transverse direction of the specimen chamber, the provision of a microwave introducing window at an upper portion of the specimen chamber is not required and hence a counter electrode for applying an electric field to the specimen can be disposed at the upper portion of the specimen chamber, thereby making it possible to apply a uniform electric field to the specimen so that the specimen is subjected to a uniform treatment.

  • Patent number: 5140165
Abstract: A vessel for solidifying radioactive waste pellets includes a vessel body, an inner lid mounted within the vessel body and fixedly secured to an upper portion of the vessel body, and a device for preventing the pellets from floating fixedly secured one end thereof to the inner lid. The inner lid has an opening formed at a generally central portion thereof, and the pellet float prevention device is extended into the opening of the inner lid to define gaps therebetween allowing the passage of a solidifying material in the state of a liquid or a slurry therethrough but preventing the passage of the radioctive waste pellets therethrough. The pellet prevention device, when receiving a downward urging force, is bent downward to enlarge the gaps therebetween for allowing the radioactive waste pellets to pass therethrough. The pellet float prevention device is returned by a resilient restoring force to its initial position when the downward urging force is released.

  • Patent number: 4690251
Abstract: An emergency control system for an elevator has a circuit for producing a signal in response to a relatively small vibration of a structure in which the elevator is installed; a first circuit responsive to the signal for controlling the operation of the elevator under a predetermined mode for a first predetermined time interval; and a second circuit for disabling the signal producing circuit simultaneously with the start of operation of the first circuit and enabling the signal producing circuit for a second predetermined time interval longer than the first predetermined time interval.
