Abstract: Deduplication is executed in a storage device having low random access performance, such as an optical disk library. When an optical disk that is not inserted into an optical disk drive needs to be accessed in order to execute binary compare, data to be binary compared is stored in a temporary memory area in order to postpone the binary compare, and on the timing when the optical disk is inserted, the postponed binary compare is executed. Before second deduplication, which is deduplication between data to be stored in the storage device and the data in the optical disk library, is executed, first deduplication, which is deduplication between the data to be stored in the storage device and the data in the temporary memory area, is executed.

  • Patent number: 8531925
Abstract: Erroneous data erasure owing to radiation of laser beam with excessive power to the recording layer of the multilayered optical disc upon servo-off while reproducing data of the disc is prevented. When detecting the servo-off based on the amplitude of the tracking error signal or the focus error signal, the laser beam power is reduced to a predetermined minimum value, and the laser beam power value is set again based on the address of the recording medium, which has been obtained later for reproduction. The laser beam power value is changed by applying an offset to the drive current or changing the target value under APC.

  • Patent number: 8520489
Abstract: The pit arrays on an optical disc medium are made to wobble at a frequency which is higher than the band of frequencies that a tracking servo can follow and which is lower than the band of frequencies of the reproducing signal. A wobble detection signal according to the amount of wobble is obtained from the tracking error signal and used as a reference signal for frequency acquisition. Alternatively, the pit arrays on the medium are wobbled at a frequency which is within the band of frequencies that the tracking servo can follow and which is lower than the band of frequencies of the reproducing signal. In addition, a wobble detection signal corresponding to the amount of wobble is obtained either from the output signal from a compensator included in a tracking servo system or from a tracking drive signal and is used as a reference signal for frequency acquisition.

  • Patent number: 8516513
Abstract: An optical disk cassette has a disk eject mechanism that ejects a disk such as a DVD or CD. The disk eject mechanism has pushrod, transfer and kick out portions. The pushrod portion slides relative to a side of the cassette case. Pivotally mounted within the case, the kick out portion pushes a disk to eject it from the case. The transfer portion translates pushrod motion to motion of the kick out portion. In a preferred embodiment, the disk eject mechanism is a unitary body, with pushrod, transfer and kick out portions made homogeneously as a single entity, the pushrod portion being a resilient joining elbow. In another preferred embodiment, the disk eject mechanism has a transfer portion that is a rack and a pinion. The rack extends from the pushrod portion and the pinion is attached to or formed as part of the kick out portion.

  • Patent number: 8503274
Abstract: When power is supplied to an ODD used by being externally attached to a PC via a USB port, it is desirable not to cause an error to occur owing to occurrence of a power-on reset even when the power supplying ability of the PC is insufficient. After the ODD has been connected with the PC and started, the ODD executes an operation of large current consumption for a predetermined period of time and judges whether a power-on reset occurs or not while the operation is being executed. When the power-on reset does not occur, the ODD is set to operate on the basis of the highest specification. When the power-on reset has occurred, the specification is set lower so as to operate the ODD with reduced current consumption.
