    Abstract: There is described a fiber-reinforced material composed of a sheetlike textile material and a thermoset resin with a fiber content of from 30 to 70% by weight, at least 30% of the fiber being synthetic fiber. The thermoset resin is preferably a phenolic resin which contains up to 25% by weight of a fluoropolymer. The sheetlike textile material is preferably 100% synthetic fiber, in particular polyacrylonitrile fiber. There are also described a prepeg formed from the textile material and the thermosetting resin and the process for producing these articles and the use of the material for producing construction elements, in particular for hydraulic systems, by application of mechanical shaping processes.

    Abstract: Protoplasts which regenerate reproducibly in a short time to normal, fertile plants can be regenerated from an auxin-autotrophic genotype of Zea mays (L.). Starting from immature embryos on hormone-free media, an auxin-autotrophic, embryogenic callus is formed on the shoot basis of the seedlings, which callus retains its embryogenic potential over a substantial period of time when subcultured on hormone-free medium. In addition to fully-developed embryos, adventitious embryos are also formed under suitable culture conditions (6-9% of sucrose in the medium). When the sucrose content is reduced to 2-3% and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid is added, soft, granular calli are formed which consist of embryogenic cell aggregates (type II callus). After subculturing the type II callus in the form of a cell suspension culture, totipotent protoplasts can be isolated. From these protoplasts, the maize plants according to the invention are regenerated.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a reactor 1 for the continuous production of linear or cyclic acetals, in particular trioxane, dioxolane, tetroxane, dimethoxymethane, diethoxymethane, diethoxyethane and dibutoxyethane. This reactor has internal adjacently arranged evaporator elements 2, which allow for flow-through of a heat transport medium, and which are at least two meters high so as to generate a thermosiphon flow. The clear cross section between the evaporator elements is 20 to 80% of the overall cross section. Using the reactor, circulation ratios of up to 250 can be achieved. Thus, the reliability and availability of a production plant is increased while the susceptibility to breakdown decreases.

The n-heptane-insoluble fraction of the film has a chain isotacticity index, measured by means of .sup.13 C-NMR spectroscopy, of at least 85 to 94%. The sole or base ply contains less than 10% by weight of resin. The film is stretched in such a way that the product of tensile strength in the longitudinal and transverse direction is greater than 50,000 (N/mm.sup.2).sup.2. The film is made by, among other steps, carrying out the orientation in the longitudinal and transverse directions such that the product of the longitudinal stretching ratio and the transverse stretching ratio is.gtoreq.60.
