  • Patent number: 9926807
Abstract: Turbine assemblies, loss recovery systems, and related fabrication methods are provided for managing temperatures associated with an electrical generator. One exemplary turbine assembly suitable for use in a loss recovery system includes a wheel configured to rotate in response to a portion of a fluid flow bypassing a flow control valve, a generator including a stator assembly disposed about a rotor coupled to the wheel to rotate in response to rotation of the wheel, a conductive structure in contact with the stator assembly, and an insulating structure radially encompassing the conductive structure and the generator. The conductive structure accesses at least a portion of the fluid flow bypassing the flow control valve and impacting the wheel, thereby providing thermal coupling between the stator assembly and the bypass fluid flow to transfer heat from the stator assembly to the bypass fluid flow via the conductive structure.

  • Patent number: 9926244
Abstract: The present disclosure provides separation processes that use azeotropic or azeotropic-like compositions of 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (HCFO-1233zd) that allow for improved recovery rates of 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene during or after manufacturing processes. Such recovery or separation processes can utilize the unique properties of azeotropic or azeotropic-like composition with various combinations of separation techniques (e.g., distillation and decanting) that yield highly pure compositions of 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and simultaneously offer high yields of 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene. Such highly pure compositions of 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene may find useful applications in polymer technology as monomers or comonomers.

  • Patent number: 9929794
Abstract: A method for air to ground uplink synchronization comprises initiating a downlink synchronization of user equipment onboard an aircraft with a ground base station; computing a range to the base station based on a downlink path loss; selecting an initial time advance (TA) value from a set of predetermined TA values based on the range; and sending a first random access channel (RACH) request with the initial TA value to the base station in a first attempt to synchronize an uplink signal and attach the user equipment to a network. If the user equipment fails to attach, a next RACH request is sent with a next TA value to the base station, in a next attempt to synchronize the uplink signal and attach the user equipment to the network. If the user equipment fails again to attach, the method is repeated until the user equipment is attached to the network.

  • Publication number: 20180079495
Abstract: Avionic systems and methods are provided for forecasting and reducing the likelihood of tire overspeed events during aircraft (A/C) runway procedures, such as takeoff and landing procedures. In one embodiment, the avionic system includes a controller coupled to at least one runway procedure data source, such as pilot input interface, a flight management system, atmospheric data sensors, or a navigational database. During operation, the controller receives runway procedure data from the runway procedure data sources pertaining to a planned runway procedure for the ownship A/C. The controller utilizes the runway procedure data to project at least one maximum tire speed during the planned runway procedure (TSMAX_PROJECTED), which is then compared to a maximum speed limit of the A/C tires (TSLIMIT). If TSMAX_PROJECTED exceeds TSLIMIT, the controller generates an alert or notification indicating the probable occurrence of a tire overspeed event during the planned runway procedure.
