Abstract: An apparatus and method for suspending a movable structure form a support structure wherein first and second flat and thin arcuately shaped flexures are formed having spaced apart substantially planar and parallel opposing surfaces, each of the first and second flexures being structured for connection between a support structure and a movable structure to be suspended from the support structure and being aligned along a common axis of rotation between the support structure and the movable structure.
Abstract: Polyethylene solutions are extruded through a multi-orifice spinneret into a cross-flow gas stream to form a fluid product. The fluid product is stretched at a temperature at which a gel will form at a stretch ratio of at least 5:1 over a length of less than about 25 mm with the cross-flow gas stream velocity at less than about 3 m/min. The fluid product is quenched in a quench bath consisting of an immiscible liquid to form a gel. The gel is stretched. The solvent is removed from the gel to form a xerogel and the xerogel product is stretched in at least two stages to produce a polyethylene yarn characterized by a tenacity of at least 35 g/d, a modulus of at least 1600 g/d and a work to break of at least 65 J/g. The yarn is further characterized by having greater than about 60% of a high strain orthorhombic crystalline component and, optionally, a monoclinic crystalline component greater than about 2% of the crystalline content. Abstract: A ground proximity warning system, method and computer program product are provided that controllably alter the base width of the alert envelope in order to accommodate uncertainties associated with the current position of the aircraft. In one embodiment, the ground proximity warning system, method and computer program product controllably alter the base width of the alert envelope depending upon an error value, i.e., an uncertainty, associated with the current position of the aircraft. Since the error value associated with the current position of the aircraft is largely dependent upon the type of navigation equipment onboard the aircraft, the ground proximity warning system, method and computer program product of another embodiment controllably alter the base width of the alert envelope depending upon the type of navigation equipment that provides the current position of the aircraft.
Abstract: Oxygen scavenging barrier polyamide compositions exhibiting high oxygen scavenging capability as well as good coinjection stretch blow moldability characteristics suitable for making multilayer PET bottles with good clarity and delamination resistance are claimed in this invention. The polyamide compositions of this invention comprise a slow crystallizing polyamide blend comprising (i) an amorphous, semiaromatic polyamide homopolymer, copolymer or mixture thereof and (ii) a semicrystalline, aliphatic polyamide homopolymer, copolymer or mixture thereof wherein in the weight ratio of (i):(ii) ranges from about 99:1 to about 30:70; at least one polyamide-compatible, oxidizable polydiene; and at least one oxidation promoting metal salt catalyst. The multilayer PET bottles, made with the polyamide compositions of this invention as the barrier layer, are suitable for extended shelf-life packaging of oxygen-sensitive food and beverage products such as beer and juices.

Abstract: A high efficiency electric motor has a generally polyhedrally shaped bulk amorphous metal magnetic component in which a plurality of layers of amorphous metal strips are laminated together to form a generally three-dimensional part having the shape of a polyhedron. The bulk amorphous metal magnetic component may include an arcuate surface, and preferably includes two arcuate surfaces that are disposed opposite to each other. Abstract: Systems and methods are provided through which the quantity of one or more items in a customer order are reduced in reference to a function of inverse probability of vendor profit and in reference to a reasonable margin of a target time predetermined by the customer, when the customer order cannot be produced within the margin. The reduced item quantities update the corresponding items in the customer order, and the items in the customer order are produced accordingly, such that the objective of the business goal is met or not sacrificed.

Abstract: A computer implemented method analyzes packets of data in frames on a process control bus. A frame is first selected, and a text file representative of specifications for the process control bus communication protocol is used to identify function code formats and calculate values and descriptions for the fields. A display of the values and fields is provided to the user. The display comprises a multi-pane screen of information that facilitates a user selecting a packet on the bus and view an interpretation of the data in the packet including values and descriptions for function codes as well as identifying the origination of the packet.

Abstract: A system for controlling one or more jet engine thrust reversers includes a motor, a speed sensor, and a controller circuit. The motor is coupled to one or more jet engine moveable thrust reverser components for moving the one or more moveable thrust reverser components to at least a deployed position. The speed sensor is operable to sense the a rotational speed of the motor. The controller circuit has an output coupled to the motor for selectively energizing and deenergizing the motor in response to the speed sensor sensing that the rotational speed of the motor is, respectively, at or above a first predetermined rotational speed and at or below a second predetermined rotational speed. The system controls the deployment operation of the jet engine thrust reversers such that unwanted mechanical and electrical loads are avoided.
Abstract: Methods and systems for fail-safe process execution, monitoring and output control for critical systems operating on an open bus architecture with multiple, independent partitions on a single processor is presented. The control system state variables and their status of critical systems, within the control laws and mode logic, are monitored for process completion and health, and shut down if necessary. The embodiments provide for a dual path for shut down of, for example, flight critical systems so that the failure of one partitioned module does not affect the operation of the remaining partitioned modules. One path involves the CPM and IOM determination of command/response health. If persistent faults are detected, then either the DSP monitoring or the CPM performance monitoring results in a discrete signal being sent to the H-bridge disable to shutdown the current output.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for combining raw fibrous and binding materials in a single mixing step (Step S3), followed by consolidation (Step S5) so as to greatly shorten the overall cycle time to a finished fiber-reinforced composite part. Chopped fibrous materials and binder materials are deposited sequentially onto a belt conveyor (Step S2) so that the materials are successively layered, one on top of each other in a predetermined ratio, and subsequently mixed (Step S3) to achieve uniform dispersion throughout. The mixed materials are then deposited into a rotating mold (Step S4) to further ensure uniform dispersion of fibrous and binder materials. Impregnation of the fibrous materials with the binder material occur in-situ as the uniformly mixed materials are heated and subsequently compacted in the mold (Step S5) to obtain the desired shape of the fiber-reinforced composite part.

Abstract: An electrolyte for use in electrolytic platinum plating that results in reduced Cl, S, or P contaminant production. A method of improving oxidation resistance of a platinum modified aluminide diffusion coating on a substrate, comprises electroplating the substrate using this electrolyte and then aluminizing the electroplated substrate at an elevated temperature to grow a platinum modified aluminide diffusion coating.

Abstract: Random pulse generators and generating systems using at least three oscillators. The output signals of at least two of the oscillators are combined to disturb the output signal of a final oscillator. For one configuration, combined output signals of at least two phase shift oscillators are used to modify the feedback signal of a final phase shift oscillator, thus disturbing the output signal of the final oscillator. For another configuration, the output signals of at least two phase shift oscillators are used to drive a subtractor whose output signal is combined with the output signal of a final phase shift oscillator to drive a subsequent subtractor, thus disturbing the output signal of the final oscillator.

Abstract: A swirl generator for creating bulk swirl in a compressor plenum in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation of the compressor rotor. The generator includes a continuous flow passageway formed by an inlet duct and a compressor forming an angle in the range of about 0°-180° to one another. A non-uniform velocity gradient is created by forming an area of non-uniform cross-sectional area within the flow passageway. The non-uniform area may comprise a ramp with a tapered end line, a rounded line of intersection, a fillet or by lengthening one side wall of the inlet duct relative to the opposite side wall.
