  • Patent number: 9123077
Abstract: A medication management system (MMS) includes a medication management unit (MMU) associated with a medical device. The MMU downloads a medication order to the medical device only if information from a first input matches information from a second input. The medical device receives delivery information only from the MMU. The medication order is performed only after delivery data validation. The MMU also determines drug-drug incompatibility. The MMU can modulate (start, stop, and dynamically adjust) medication order performance. The medical device wirelessly receives a patient ID to automatically associate with the patient. During delivery, the medical device caches an updated drug library to replace an existing one. The medical device displays a patient picture for validation. The MMU evaluates the performance of medical devices and caregivers based medical device feedback. The MMU adjusts the output of medical device information conveyed to a caregiver.

  • Patent number: 9079686
Abstract: In one aspect, the invention is directed to a port assembly for establishing fluid communication between a first container and a second container. The port assembly includes a retainer for connecting a first container, where the retainer is positioned in a cavity defined by a port housing that includes an axially fixed actuator. The housing also includes a plug member constructed to seal a fluid passageway between the port housing and an interior of a second container. The plug member is configured to move axially relative to the actuator. Rotation of the retainer relative to the actuator causes the plug member to move to an open position in which it does not seal a fluid passageway between the port housing and an interior of a second container. The rotation of the retainer relative to the port housing also causes the retainer to move axially relative to the port housing so that the actuator forces a stopper associated with a first container connected to the retainer into a first container.

  • Patent number: 8926562
Abstract: A syringe holder includes a body with a syringe retainer, an elongated finger and a stop member connected to the body. The finger inserts longitudinally into a socket on a pump without the aid of tools and permits the holder to move in multiple planes. The stop member limits such movement. The stop member can include a clip for releasably clamping onto a portion of a pump. The syringe retainer can include a hole in the body and may optionally include an adaptor mounted in or extending into the hole for detachably attaching a syringe. The syringe holder can be incorporated into a tube set assembly or an infusion system.

  • Patent number: 8911421
Abstract: A system for mixing the contents of a first container and a second container. The system includes the first container that has container body with an opening fluidly connected to a cavity defined by the container body, a first substance contained in the cavity, and a stopper sealing the opening. The second container includes a port assembly including a port housing connected to the second container and a retainer constructed to connect to the first container. The retainer is configured to rotate and move axially relative to the port housing, wherein relative rotation between the port housing and the retainer causes the retainer to move axially relative to the port housing. The port assembly further includes an axially fixed actuator constructed to force the stopper into the first container when the retainer is rotated relative to the port housing.
