  • Patent number: 8403908
Abstract: A differential pressure based flow sensor assembly and method of using the same to determine the rate of fluid flow in a fluid system. The sensor assembly comprises a disposable portion, and a reusable portion. A flow restricting element is positioned along a fluid flow passage between an inlet and an outlet. The disposable portion further has an upstream fluid pressure membrane and a downstream fluid pressure membrane. The reusable portion has an upstream fluid pressure sensor and a downstream fluid pressure sensor. The upstream fluid pressure sensor senses the upstream fluid pressure at a location within the fluid flow passage between the inlet and the flow restricting element. The downstream fluid pressure sensor senses the downstream fluid pressure at a location within the fluid flow passage between the flow restricting element and the outlet. The process utilizes output of the sensors to calculate the flow rate of the fluid.

  • Patent number: 8378837
Abstract: A method of monitoring pressure inside a fluid line and a system for implementing the method. The method is applicable to syringe pump systems. The method includes the steps of measuring a force value caused by a pressure inside the fluid line; collecting the measured force values during at least two consecutive moving time windows; calculating a slope of a best-fit line within each time window; calculating a slope difference of the slopes of the best-fit lines; comparing the slope difference with a pre-determined threshold gradient value; defining a baseline force as the detected force value when the slope difference is equal to the threshold gradient value; determining a relative force value by subtracting the baseline force from the detected force value; and, triggering an alarm if the relative force is greater than a pre-defined threshold force.

  • Patent number: 8361021
Abstract: A method and pump that accurately senses air in a fluid delivery line pulses or activates and deactivates the air sensor(s) multiple times during the pumping phase of the fluid delivery cycle and can generate alarms based upon a single indication or a cumulative indication of air in the line. The pump can include multiple air sensors spaced along the delivery line so that the method can use the multiple signals therefrom to distinguish real moving air bubbles from false positives and/or air bubbles adhered to the inner wall of the line.

  • Patent number: 8317698
Abstract: A method of monitoring performance of a fluid testing system is provided. The method draws a fluid sample to the testing system using a pump. A voltage output of a sensor, such as an optical sensor, is generated. The voltage output of the optical sensor during the drawing is compared to an upper fluid volume drawn based voltage limit and a lower fluid volume drawn based voltage limit stored within a memory. The system is flushed with a flushing fluid using the pump to flush the flushing fluid from the testing system. The voltage output of the optical sensor during the flushing is compared to an upper fluid volume flushed based voltage limit and a lower fluid volume flushed based voltage limit stored within the memory. An alert generates if at least one of the voltage output during the drawing of the fluid sample is outside of voltage limits.

The first device includes a housing having opposite sides, a selective element, a blocking element, and a clamp mechanism. At least one of the opposite sides includes a matable element to detachably attach a second medical device. The selective element restricts the attachment of the second device to only one side of the first device. The blocking element prevents a third medical device from attaching to the first and second devices once the first and second devices are attached. The clamp restricts the attachment of the second device to only one side of the first device when the clamp is attached to a support member. The clamp permits slide ratcheting axial movement of a clamp shaft.
