  • Patent number: 4080855
Abstract: A worktable for use in association with machine tools is illustrated which has a section including a side edge of the worktable hingedly connected to the table supporting member whereby the section is tiltable under power to automatically unload a workpiece from the table. The invention is shown in connection with a workpiece gripping and moving carriage which moves the workpiece relative to the machine tool and, after completion of machining, moves the workpiece to a position on the tip table section. Control members prevent actuation of the tip table until after the workpiece gripper has deposited the workpiece on the tip table clear of the machine tool and then withdrawn to a position fully out of contact with the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4080090
Abstract: A Tap Driver Assembly for use between a spindle that is adapted to provide a coolant and a tap that is adapted to conduct such coolant therethrough, the tap driver assembly including a body in which a nose is slidably guided, a collet clamped by a nut in such nose, a slidable drive connection between the body and the nose which enables relative axial movement while providing an angular drive, spring means acting between the nose and the body so that the feed of the tap could lead or lag the feed of the spindle, and a fluid passage in the body leading from the spindle in bypassing relation to the slidable drive connection, bypassing the spring means, and extending through the nose, axially into the collet to the tap.

  • Patent number: 4075927
Abstract: A machine tool having a tool-supporting hollow spindle has the tool mounted in fixed relation to a draw bar which slides axially within the spindle between a tool retaining position and a tool release position. A barrel cam within the spindle is adapted to be engaged and rotated by a cam driver member secured to an actuating shaft longitudinally movable within the spindle. The spindle rotates with the cam until a predetermined angular position is reached, after which additional longitudinal movement of the actuating shaft causes movement of the draw bar downwardly within the spindle from its tool retaining position to its tool release position, where the tool is resiliently supported until it is removed, either manually or by automatic means.

  • Patent number: 4070831
Abstract: A hydraulic drive circuit for machine tools, such as power shears, press brakes, and the like having hydraulic cylinder reciprocated members, controls fluid flow to and from the hydraulic cylinders to automatically move and hold the member in an idle position, to apply power in the desired direction upon demand, and to bypass fluid for unloading the pump until power is demanded. In power shears and press brakes, the vertically movable ram is automatically raised and held in an out-of-the-way position whenever the manually actuated control is released even after stoppage of the pump.

  • Patent number: 4060341
Abstract: An auxiliary jet sump pump, particularly for use with a main conventional electrical sump pump or the like, as a substitute pump in the event the main pump is inoperative, or as a supplemental pump in the event the capacity of the main pump is exceeded. The auxiliary pump is adapted to be mounted in the sump, and discharges into the discharge pipe of the main pump. The auxiliary pump is powered by water under pressure, for example water from the usual municipal water supply. A float-actuated valve is provided which admits water into the auxiliary pump when the water level in the sump rises to a first predetermined level above normal, and which shuts off the water when the water level reaches a second predetermined level lower than the first predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 4047858
Abstract: An axially fixed, radially limitedly movable stuffing box assembly including mounting means therefor. The stuffing box is adapted to have means for continuously flushing its bushing during operational rotational movements of a shaft functionally engaged therewith. The stuffing box when used in functional combination with a screw of a screw pump which is itself adapted for the pumping of high density fluids greatly reduces the tendency for radial forces generated during pumping to cause shaft deflection and to produce shaft wear and leakage.

  • Patent number: 4046230
Abstract: Elastic tuning, spacing and sealing rings substantially fill annular grooves in a ring shaped inertia mass and face toward and into engagement with the body of supporting disk means extending radially into an annular working chamber defined by the inertia mass, the chamber being substantially filled with a viscous damping medium. Annular retaining flanges along the radially inner sides of the grooves assist in mounting the elastic rings in concentric relation to one another and to the working chamber and protect the rings against intrusion of dirt and contaminants. The grooves are partially unfilled and provide damping medium reservoirs about the radially outer sides of the elastic rings.Several optional configurations and combinations are disclosed to meet practical considerations.

  • Patent number: 4040764
Abstract: A tool holder includes a shank adapted at one end to hold a tool and to be clamped in a machine tool at its other end. The shank has a portion that provides accurate radial location, and also has means which are adjustable in order to provide accurate axial location. Such axially adjustable locating means include an elongated ramp accompanied by means defining a flat surface encircled by a lock ring which can engage the adjacent end surface of a portion of the machine tool which holds the tool holder. Any force tending to push the tool holder further into the machine tool is resisted by the inability of the lock ring to move up to a higher portion of the ramp. Preferably, there are a plurality of aligned ramps.

  • Patent number: 4031787
Abstract: A Punch and Stripper Assembly for use in a punch press includes a punch with a shoulder at an intermediate portion thereof, a head threaded onto an end of the punch for being engaged by the ram of the press, a compression spring engaging the head, a washer engaging the opposite end of the spring, a retainer acting between the punch shoulder and the washer, and a stripper sleeve for acting between the workpiece and the retainer, whereby the position of the head on the punch provides a preload to maximize spring life, as well as to control the effective height of the assembly with respect to the ram. With this assembly, no special tooling is needed to assemble it. The retainer can be inverted to alter the retractive position of the punch shoulder.

  • Patent number: 4017223
Abstract: A dual screw-type pump is provided with a means for balancing the resultant dynamic axial thrust on the screw assemblies during operation of the pump. The resultant thrust on each assembly is absorbed in part by a circular piston on the assembly near the rear of the pump and the remainder by a thrust bearing engaged with the assembly near the front of the pump. The longitudinal position of one of the screw assemblies is selectively adjustable relative to the position of the other screw assembly to balance the thrust on the screw assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4010969
Abstract: Automobile bumpers formed from rolled sheet steel and each having a cross-sectional profile designed to carry impact loads without additional reinforcements, and which are selectively hardened to withstand impact of a high order of magnitude without damage. At least an area of the bar coextensive along the bar remains unhardened and serves to control and avoid distortion of the hardened areas. In a relatively large shell bumper profile, longitudinal areas near the neutral axis of the profile remain unhardened and there are longitudinal hardened areas at the profile portions farthest from the neutral axis.A method of and means for effecting selective hardening of the bumper face bars are also disclosed.
