Abstract: A Z-axis drive assembly for a turret machining center incorporates a variable speed DC motor mounted on a vertically adjustable carriage and connected through a harmonic drive unit to rotate a pinion. The pinion forms part of a rack and pinion mechanism, for controlling the vertical elevation of the rack relative to the carriage.
Abstract: Bumper bars are shaped from easily workable relatively thin gauge sheet or strip steel into bumper bar shell profile provided with a horizontally elongated body portion and spaced apart integral upper and lower flanges of substantial width extending freely angularly from the body portion, and opposite end portions turned angularly away from the body portion in the same direction as the flanges. The body portion and the flanges are heat and quench hardened throughout their major extent, thereby providing the bar with a beam strength and yield strength to withstand bending stresses from repeated impact forces of a high order of magnitude without significant damage, and the opposite end portions are maintained free from heat and quench hardening as warpage control areas and thereby maintaining the bumper bar free from detrimental warpage.Apparatus for carrying out the method is provided.
Abstract: A reservoir-type pump structure for liquid and viscous materials, particularly lubricating materials such as lubricating oils and greases, in which the reservoir is formed as an independent unit readily detachable from the pump structure or attached thereto, whereby the pump may be readily supplied with lubricating materials by interchanging reservoirs, eliminating the need for refilling the reservoir at the location of use.
Abstract: A railroad passenger car suspension system in which a car body is supported on trucks in the running mode through rotary hydraulic actuators. All of the necessary conditions for passenger comfort, increased train speed and safety are met. The level of centrifugal force at curves is sensed and the car tilted so that the direction of force is felt by the passengers in a comfortable manner. Flush floor level of the car with station platforms, regardless of passenger load, wheel wear or platform level is attained. Lowered spring rate in the suspension system provides improved ride characteristics. Means are provided for steering the car trucks.
Abstract: A turret worktable for a turret punch machine tool with the table aligned adjacent to the top of the die turret, the dies extending below the table top. The top has a section thereof extending from an edge of the table to the edge of the lower die turret, which is pivotable through an arc from an operating position adjacent to the die turret and plainer with the remainder of the table to a die removal position located below and to the side of the dies in the lower die turret. The segment forms a worktable top when in the die changing position.
Abstract: A punch press is provided with a side gage member for fixing the location of the workpiece in the X-axis preparatory to being clamped to moving means which position the workpiece in various positions with respect to the punching axis. The side gage member includes adjustment means for accurately setting the distance between its gaging surface and the centerline of the die.
Abstract: A punching device includes a fixed frame adapted to support punch means in alignment with a ram. An assembly of the punch, a guide and stripping sleeve and a stripping spring is removable as a unit, and such assembly includes means by which such assembly is retained together, especially during handling away from the frame of the punching device. To this end, the sleeve has a circumferential groove in which there is a radial aperture, and a retainer member is disposed in the groove and has a portion that projects radially through the radial aperture into an elongated recess in the punch body.
Abstract: A machine tool includes a head which supports a vertically movable quill within which there is disposed a rotatable spindle to which various kinds of cutting tools may be attached. Within the quill there is provided a spring-biased annular piston for operating actuating means that are connected to clamping members for clamping onto and for releasing tooling from the spindle when it is in its locked position.
Abstract: A jet aerator module for securing intimate contact and admixture between a liquid stream and an oxidizing gas including a housing constructed of sheet form material, a gas inlet in the housing for introducing a pressurized oxidizing gas into the housing, a liquid inlet in the housing axially spaced from the gas inlet for introducing liquid to be treated into the housing, an inner liquid carrying chamber composed of sheet form material disposed within the housing in spaced relation to the gas inlet, thereby providing a gas chamber between the chamber and the gas inlet, the housing being provided with angularly spaced relatively large diameter jet nozzles about its periphery, and the inner chamber being provided with smaller diameter jet nozzles about its periphery in axial registry with the relatively large diameter jet nozzles in the housing. The construction is such that the entire module is relatively lightweight and capable of being manufactured at low cost from readily available materials.
Abstract: A piston type fluid pump structure providing a selective variable operating fluid displacement, and including a piston having an operable travel, within a cooperable cylinder bore, through a pump stroke which may be of fixed length, a fluid supply port being provided which communicates with the interior of the cylinder bore when the piston is in a retracted position and a fluid outlet port communicating with interior of said bore through which fluid therein may be discharged during such pump stroke, an expansion chamber being provided in communication with the cylinder bore adjacent the discharge port therein, the effective volume of the expansion chamber being selectively variable whereby the output displacement of said pump structure may be varied by controlling the volume of said expansion chamber, and therewith the amount of fluid received therein during a pump stroke.
Abstract: A punching device includes a C-frame on which a punch and stripping assembly is upwardly urged by a stripping spring, there being a horizontal retainer pin extending through one of two slots in such assembly and carried in a selected one of a plurality of holes in the frame for selecting the pinch point clearance, namely the clearance between the stripping sleeve and the die.
