Abstract: A shoulder kit assembly for a crash test dummy includes a spine interface member for attachment to a spine of the crash test dummy and a scapula for attachment to the spine interface member. The shoulder kit assembly includes a load cell for attachment to the spine interface member for measuring load in a plurality of axes on a shoulder joint and an upper arm assembly having an arm bone made of a plastic material for operative attachment to the scapula. In addition, the shoulder kit assembly also includes a two axis rotational shoulder joint, a relatively soft molded flesh around the plastic arm bone, and provisions for two accelerometers at the shoulder and at the neck T1 location.

Abstract: A computer method of material modeling for crash test dummy finite element models includes the steps of making a material card for the material, applying the material card to validate a finite element model of a crash test dummy component, determining whether the finite element model is acceptable, ending the method if the finite element model is acceptable, and adjusting a relative volume (J) range for the material to make the material soft or stiff if the finite element model is not acceptable.
Abstract: An ankle assembly for a crash test dummy includes an ankle clevis assembly for attachment to a leg assembly of the crash test dummy, an ankle base assembly for attachment to a foot assembly of the crash test dummy and cooperating with the ankle clevis assembly, a fastener to connect the clevis assembly and the ankle base assembly together to allow proper ankle positions for different ankles and also allow friction adjustment to simulate human bracing in impact conditions, and a plurality of elastomeric elements disposed between the clevis assembly and the ankle base assembly that allow proper inversion and eversion performance of the ankle assembly.

Abstract: A chest band assembly for a crash test dummy includes a chest band adapted to be disposed about a rib cage of the crash test dummy and a sensor cooperating with the chest band and the rib cage. The sensor is made of a carrier and a plurality of optical fibers bonded to the carrier, wherein each of the optical fibers has at least one sensor.
Abstract: A system and method for designing a crashworthiness system is taught. The system utilizes computer models of anthropomorphic dummies having material properties which change as a function of time.
