Abstract: A method of notifying consumers of available content in a content distribution system. The method includes determining the existence of a content event related to content. The content event is associated with a community. A consumer who is a member of the community is notified of the content event by sending a notification to the consumer. Access to content related to the content event is provided upon request by the consumer.
Abstract: A method of retrofitting for electrical power generation an internal combustion engine (including a plurality of pistons connected to a common crankshaft) includes applying to at least one and optionally to each piston a power converter operable to convert mechanical energy of the piston to and from electrical energy.

Abstract: A method is described for preparing a mixture for quality control of 0.1 g glycine tablets for sublingual application. The mixture for quality control includes a 100:1 ratio of water to porphyrized tablets, each tablet containing 0.101 g microcapsules of non-agglomerated crystals of amino-acetic acid covered with polymeric film of water-soluble methylcellulose, each tablet further comprising 0.001 g magnesium stearate. The process of dissolution takes 20 minutes and is carried out at a temperature of 37° C. in an apparatus using a paddle rotation speed of 150 revolutions per minute. After the mixture is dissolved, it is allowed to stand for 10 minutes, then a light transmission coefficient is measured at 700±2 nm for a 10 mm thick layer of the mixture. A transmission value within the range of 50% to 70% compared to purified water corresponds to the proper quality.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described that that analyze Layer 2 network performance and identify problems without having to disrupt customer service. Embodiments employ a two-phase approach to identify network problems. For an ingress switch, embodiments monitor frame relay Management Information Base (MIB) port and channel objects. A trouble ticket with various test results may be issued and a network work center notified with recommendations that include switch checking, network checking, Layer 1 access testing and network connectivity testing.

Abstract: Plasmon energy is produced by exciting a plasmon resonance at least one excitation position on a first surface of a first material, and the plasmon energy is detected at at least one measurement position on the first surface after the plasmon energy has propagated from the at least one excitation position to the at least one measurement position. An attenuation of plasmon energy is determined along a plurality of paths between the at least one excitation position and the at least one measurement position, and relative distances between the first surface and a second surface of a second material are determined at a plurality of points on at least one of the surfaces based on the determined attenuation of plasmon energy along the plurality of paths.
Abstract: A product comprises or is produced from a substrate and optionally a thermal insulation wherein the substrate comprises or is produced from polyvinyl chloride and a liquid plasticizer; the substrate, the insulation material, or both is coated, laminated, coextruded, or applied with a barrier layer comprising an ionomer; and the substrate is in close proximity to the insulation material. Also disclosed is a process that can be used to prevent liquid plasticizer from migrating out of polyvinyl chloride product wherein the product is optionally in close proximity to a thermal insulation; the process comprises coating, laminating, coextruding, or applying a barrier layer disclosed above onto the surface, or a portion thereof, of the product or onto the insulation.

Abstract: Network asset recovery includes querying assets on a communications network to obtain a current inventory of the assets on the communications network and obtaining inventory data for the communications network from an inventory management database. The current inventory is compared with the inventory data from the inventory management database to identify a plurality of non-utilized assets. Asset type need data is obtained from a demand database and at least one of the non-utilized assets is identified for recovery based on the obtained asset type need data. The assets may be intelligent network elements and the communications network may be a telecommunications network.
Abstract: Lumen-traveling devices and associated methods and systems are described. Lumen-traveling devices capable of traveling within a body lumen may include a propelling mechanism to produce movement of the lumen-traveling device within the lumen, as well as additional components such as a sensor, an active portion, and/or control circuitry. In some embodiments, a sensor may be used to detect a local condition, and an action may be performed within the body lumen. Actions that may be performed include, but are not limited to, transmitting information, releasing a material within the lumen, performing a surgical step, or collecting a sample, among others.

Abstract: A method of analyzing data traffic includes receiving a request at a data analysis system to store a string related to header information associated with a data packet. The method also includes applying a hash function to the string, thereby obtaining a 32-bit intermediate, and applying another hash function to the 32-bit intermediate, thereby obtaining a hash number. Further, the method includes storing the string in an array position corresponding to the hash number, when the array position is empty.
