  • Patent number: 4920234
Abstract: A cable structure in round or flat form is characterized by a corrugated septum disposed intermediate an inner and an outer sheath. The septum contacts the sheaths to define tubular envelopes extending axially along the length of the cable. Each of the envelopes is able to receive a predetermined number of conductors. The sheaths and the septum are electrically connectable to a ground potential so as to totally electromagnetically isolate the conductors entirely along their axial lengths.

  • Patent number: 4919872
Abstract: Continuous strands of color concentrate are metered into the feed zone of a screw-melter polymer extruder where they are cut into pellets by the shearing action of the flights of a rotating screw against the extruder housing. These pellets are mixed within the extruder with a thermoplastic polymer to be colored and this mixture is then melted and extruded into a useful article, for example, a fiber for textile or carpeting end-use.Additionally, color concentrates can be first formed into continuous strands and stored conveniently on a spool for subsequent metering into the polymer extruder.

  • Patent number: 4920499
Abstract: An expert system for process control, which permits the inference rules to be revised at any time without requiring the specialized skills of a "knowledge engineer". The inference rules are intitially defined by a domain expert who fills in blank fields in a set of highly constrained substantially natural-language templates. The rule set thus specified is automatically translated to define an operational expert system. Updating can be performed by a domain expert at any time: the set of templates with the data fields as originally entered is redisplayed, so that the domain expert can edit the accessible fields and then command the modified rule set to be automatically translated, to define a modified operational expert system.

  • Patent number: 4918432
Abstract: A house arrest monitoring system that automatically verifies the presence or absence of prisoners, patients or other personnel who are required to remain at a prescribed location or to report to the prescribed location at a certain time. The system includes an identification tag that is worn by the individual being monitored. This tag transmits an identification signal that includes a unique identifying code, as well as status information that indicates whether the tag has been removed from near the flesh of the individual being monitored. The tag is totally self-contained and includes circuitry to sense when the tag is held near the flesh of the individual, as well as code generating and transmitting circuitry to periodically generate and transmit the identification signal. A field monitoring device (FMD) is included at the prescribed location to receive and process the identification signal, and to communicate with a central processing unit (CPU) located at a remote central monitoring location.

  • Patent number: 4918006
Abstract: Recombinant plasmids containing the larvicidal delta-endotoxin gene were constructed by inserting HindIII fragments of the Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis 72-75 Md plasmid into the Escherichia coli vector pUC12. Two recombinants producing a 27-kdal toxin (pIP173 and pIP174) were indentified by screening clones in an E. coli in vitro transcription-translation system. Both recombinants comprised pUC12 and common 9.7 kb HindIII fragment of the B. thuringiensis plasmid. The 27,340 Da polypeptide synthesized in vito from pIP174 transformed into E. coli JM101 and from B. subtilis 168 and spoOJ87 containing the 1.2 kb TaqI fragment from pIP173 was lethal to mosquito larvae.

  • Patent number: 4917003
Abstract: A hydraulic cylinder, piston and rod assembly wherein the piston is secured to the rod in an efficient and inexpensive manner. The piston includes a threaded interior which is secured to a corresponding threaded portion on the end of the piston rod. An opening through a portion of the piston is aligned with a recess within the end portion of the piston rod to permit the insertion of a locking pin into the aligned openings. Thereafter, a compression ring, which is pivotally attached to the locking pin, is slipped into a complementary groove that is provided on the exterior periphery of the piston end portion. This provides a positive connection between the rod and piston which tolerates dimensional variations and eliminates play.

  • Patent number: 4918326
Abstract: An electronic switchgear operating contact-free, having a presence indicator which can be externally affected, a switching amplifier disposed downstream of the presence indicator an electronic switch controllable by the presence indicator via the switching amplifier a supply circuit for the provision of the supply voltage for the presence indicator and for the switching amplifier and a delay circuit preventing activating pulses. The supply circuit has a voltage and/or current regulator. In the electronic switchgear in accordance with the invention activating pulses are prevented with a higher degree of assurance than in the state of the art, namely based on the fact that the delay circuit becomes active, i.e. the delay time starts, only after the voltage and/or current regulator has started to operate.
