Abstract: An apparatus and method for assembling electrical connector components, including headers, connectors, and terminals, to circuit bearing substrates functions to align the terminal pins of a connector or header into a preferred position and install an annular solder preform onto each terminal pin. The pin alignment apparatus includes movable jaw plates that define a variable size aperture for encompassing each of a plurality of terminal pins, including terminal pins that are bent or skewed relative to an intended position. A carrier plate overlies the jaw plates and includes a plurality of cavities for receiving solder preforms to be installed over each of the terminal pins. The jaw plates are positioned over the terminal pins and moved to a closed position to align all the terminal pins, including any bent or skewed terminal pins, to an intended alignment.
Abstract: The invention relates to sulfonylurea compounds with a substituted or unsubstituted bicyclic nine-membered ring having one to five heteroatoms which are preemergent and/or postemergent herbicides or plant growth regulants.
Abstract: Alumina fibers which incorporate hafnia and optionally zirconia plus a fourth oxide exhibit surprising grain refinement on sintering, and thereafter excellent retention of strength after exposure to high temperatures.
Abstract: This invention provides for a process for the preparation of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluorodichloroethane (FC-114a) by reacting CF.sub.2 .dbd.CFCl in a polar aprotic solvent with a source of fluoride ion selected from at least one alkali metal fluoride and/or at least one tetraalkylammonium fluoride and with a source of chlorine selected from at least one of CCl.sub.4, CCl.sub.3 CCl.sub.3, and CCl.sub.3 CCl.sub.2 CCl.sub.3 at a temperature from about 25.degree. C. to about 150.degree. C.
Abstract: An arrangement for measuring speeds between a first and a second object with the aid of microwave signals and including a microwave generator which is connected to a transmitter antenna, and two receiver antennae which are preferably placed on respective sides of the transmitter antenna for receiving microwave signals reflected against an object and each of which receiver antennae is connected to a respective receiver channel, the channels being connected to a correlator for correlating the signals received by the receiver antennae, the mutual time difference of said signals corresponding to the relative speed between the objects. According to the invention the microwave generator (11) is also connected to a respective mixer (13, 14, 15, 16) in each of the receiver channels, to which respective mixers (13-16) respective receiver antennae (6, 7) are connected.

Abstract: An improved process for the manufacture of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane, more particularly, a gas-phase reaction of a 1,1,1-trifluorochloroethane with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a selected metal on aluminum fluoride or carbon.
Abstract: A process and apparatus for obtaining uniform light distribution in an exposure apparatus having at least one fluorescent light tube involves heating the light tube along most of its length to a temperature above ambient temperature prior to activating the exposure apparatus. A heater is disposed on the back of a transparent partition and a blower is provided for circulating hot air.
Abstract: The acidic crumb of poly(paraphenylene terephthalamide) formed from the reaction of terephthaloyl chloride with para-phenylene diamine in an N-alkyl-pyrrolidone with an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt, is dissolved in a defined mixture of a base, a solvent and co-solvent for use in the direct preparation of fibrous products.
Abstract: The method and apparatus for controlling the travel of a carriage of a linear motor along the motor primary by providing a wedge shaped member adjacent the entrance or exit of the electromagnetic field of the primary.

Abstract: Point-bonding and water-jet-softening of a sheet of flash-spun polyethylene plexifilamentary film-fibril strands provide a nonwoven fabric that is particularly suited for dyeing and use in disposable protective garments. Garments made with the nonwoven fabric are comfortable and provide a good protection against particulate matter, such as air-borne asbestos particles.
Abstract: A process for preparing a nylon 66/6 copolymer fiber with reduced spherulites comprising adding 1-6% caprolactam and 0.001-2% water-soluble inorganic calcium salt to 94-99% nylon 66 salt to form a nylon 66/6 salt solution, polymerizing the salt solution to form a polymer, and extruding the polymer.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of oriented polymeric tape of a blend of copolyetherester and polyethylene terephthalate, by blending the components at a temperature above the higher crystalline melting point of the two polymeric components for a minimum melt residence time.
Abstract: A wheel formed of a rim joined to a hub by a multi-spoke foam structure that is coated with a fiber reinforced resin material is defined by particular relationships between the spokes and the radiused sections joining the spokes to the hub and the rim.
Abstract: A process for accelerating the cure rate of a thermoplastic composition comprising blending 5-95 parts by weight of a crystalline polyolefin resin of a substantially saturated homopolymer or copolymer of a C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alpha monoolefin and 5-95 parts by weight of a crosslinkable ethylene-containing terpolymer comprising ethylene, an alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate wherein the alkyl group contains 1-6 carbon atoms or a vinyl ester of a monocarboxylic acid having 2-6 carbon atoms, and glycidyl acrylate or glycidyl methacrylate, and mixing and shearing the composition while crosslinking the ethylene-containing terpolymer with a crosslinking agent that is a combination of (a) from about 1.5-9 parts by weight per 100 parts ethylene-containing terpolymer of an organic aliphatic or aromatic polycarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof containing 3-8 carbon atoms and (b) from about 0.
Abstract: A cable structure in round or flat form is characterized by a corrugated septum disposed intermediate an inner and an outer sheath. The septum contacts the sheaths to define tubular envelopes extending axially along the length of the cable. Each of the envelopes is able to receive a predetermined number of conductors. The sheaths and the septum are electrically connectable to a ground potential so as to totally electromagnetically isolate the conductors entirely along their axial lengths.
Abstract: Continuous strands of color concentrate are metered into the feed zone of a screw-melter polymer extruder where they are cut into pellets by the shearing action of the flights of a rotating screw against the extruder housing. These pellets are mixed within the extruder with a thermoplastic polymer to be colored and this mixture is then melted and extruded into a useful article, for example, a fiber for textile or carpeting end-use.Additionally, color concentrates can be first formed into continuous strands and stored conveniently on a spool for subsequent metering into the polymer extruder.
