Abstract: A process for making hydrogen peroxide from hydrogen and oxygen employing an aqueous reaction medium containing a bromide promoter is disclosed.
Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparing 3-substituted tetrahydrofuran, 3- and 4-substituted butyrolactones and mixtures thereof comprising hydrogenating a hydrogenatable precursor in the presence of an aqueous reaction medium and a catalyst comprising palladium and rhenium and at least one support selected from the group consisting of titanium oxide, zirconium oxide, and carbon.
Abstract: A liquid electrostatic developer containing negatively chargeable resin particles with improved charging characteristics, said developer consisting essentially of(A) nonpolar liquid having a Kauri-butanol value of less than 30, present in a major amount;(B) resin particles of a blend of at least two polymers, at least one polymer containing at least one acidic constituent having a pKa of less than 4.5 measured at 25.degree. C. in water, and the blend having an acid number of at least one due to said acidic constitutent; the resin particles having an average by area particle size of less than 10 .mu.m, and(C) nonpolar liquid soluble ionic or zwitterionic charge director compound.A preferred polymer blend is composed of polystyrene and a sulfonated polymer, e.g., poly(2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid). The average resin particle size by area is less than 10 .mu.m. Optionally a colorant and other additives or adjuvants are present.
Abstract: It has now been discovered that a selected magnesium oxychloride can be mixed with a thermoplastic polymer sensitive to decomposition by water, such as polyamides or polyesters, or with fluoropolymers.
Abstract: A latching device for the actuator in a valve installation. The actuator includes a handle for rotating a valve stem and a latch slidably mounted on the handle. The latch has one edge which abuts a stop when in the closed position and an opposed, angularly disposed, camming edge facing a stop at the open position.
Abstract: A class of ortho-alkyl- and ortho-alkenyl-substituted benzenesulfonamides are useful as general or selective pre-emergent or post-emergent herbicides and as plant growth regulants.
Abstract: Application of hydrophobic silica to an anisotropic-melt forming polyester yarn reduces interfilament and intrafilament fusion during heat-strengthening. Improvements in adhesion of yarn to certain matrices are noted.
Abstract: Group transfer polymerization process with respect to which a selected silylamine is employed, for example, as a scavenger to remove scavenger-reactive poisons.
Abstract: A lettering device having a writing arm (4) that is movable between a position of repose and a writing position and that receives a stylus that has a Bowden control (29) for moving the writing arm (4) between the position of repose and the writing position. The Bowden control is guided via an actuating lever (42) that is pivotably secured to a guide bearing (8), so that it is guided over two application zones (43, 44) displaced on opposite sides of the pivot axis (41) of the actuating lever (42) and spaced apart from one another. By tensing the Bowden cable control (21), one section (42') of the pivoting actuating lever (42) lifts the writing arm (41).
Abstract: A point source for calibrating a gamma camera uses the nuclide cerium-141. The source is disposed in a shuttered, shielded housing. The shutter is incrementally advanceable to expose, over time, an increasing portion of the area of the source to maintain a relatively constant gamma ray flux therefrom.
Abstract: An automatic system for analysis of sizes of a ground material includes a sampler for sampling and delivering the ground material in the form of a slurry. A sedimentation of cylinder is provided as is a device for reception of the slurry, its stirring and dosed supply into the sedimentation cylinder. A differential circuit is provided for measuring the mass of the ground material, which did not settle in the sedimentation cylinder as any instant of time during the analysis of the material size including a measuring channel and a correcting channel based on the same LC self-excited oscillator operating in a time sharing mode. An automatic error correction circuit and a data processing and display unit are provided for presenting information on the percentage of solid particles in the sizes being analyzed.

Abstract: A presoaked perhalogenated polymer cation exchange membrane containing at least one type of acid groups, carboxyl or sulfonyl, is bonded to other articles such as edge-reinforcing tape, gasket, electrolytic cell frame, etc., by means of a pressure-sensitive adhesive material from the group of butyl rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, and polyacrylate rubber. Presoaking of the membranes is done either in water or in an aqueous alkaline solution.
Abstract: This invention relates to highly attrition resistant catalysts, catalyst precursors and catalyst supports and to processes for making and using them.
Abstract: The invention relates to certain sulfonylurea compounds having an ester group ortho to the sulfonylurea linkage which have been found to be excellent preemergent and postemergent herbicides or plant growth regulators.
