  • Patent number: 4122075
Abstract: A process for preventing deposits when venting steam containing entrained polymer from high pressure reactors used for preparing nylon from dicarboxylic acid and diamine. The hot steam generated during condensation polymerization of the reactants is vented through a pressure-control valve at a rate which maintains a desired pressure in the reactor. Deposit of polymer in the valve or vent pipe after release of pressure is prevented by injecting water into the low pressure side of the valve or into the subsequent vent pipe. At least sufficient water is used to saturate the vented steam and to wet the walls of the vent pipe.

  • Patent number: 4122060
Abstract: Epoxy resin powder coating compositions which have good shelf-life and which are capable of rapid cure are obtained by blending two types of epoxy resins with filler particles and a curing agent. One resin is of the epichlorohydrin-bisphenol-A type. The other resin is an epichlorohydrin-bisphenol-A epoxy modified with an epoxy-novolac. Rapidly curing films are obtained by using a hydroxy-containing, mixed aromatic-aliphatic polyether resin crosslinking agent. The cure is accelerated with an alkylimidazole. These compositions are useful in coating metal substrates, particularly pipe exteriors, when rapid cure, flexibility, and good adhesion are needed.

  • Patent number: 4121670
Abstract: The invention relates to impact wrenches for tightening threaded joints comprising an impact clutch accommodated in a housing and having a hammer which is axially movable for imparting each blow, and a device for automatically limiting the number of blows to a pre-set number of blows. The device for automatically limiting the number of blows comprises a blow number setter, a movable member directly co-operating with the hammer and axially movable upon each axial displacement of the hammer so as to enable the axial displacement of the hammer until a pre-set number of blows are delivered, and a locking device for locking the movable member against displacement in the position preventing further axial movement of the hammer after the ultimate blow of the pre-set number of blows is delivered. Thus the possibility of imparting blows in excess is eliminated without deenergization of the impact wrench drive, and the construction of the impact wrench is simplified.

Abstract: Apparatus for the determination of the oxidative stability of polymers exhibiting viscous or visco-elastic flow at the temperature of the determination is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a mixing head having means to subject polymer to shear, means to measure the oxygen content of gas, means to circulate the gas from the mixing means to the analyzing means and back to the mixing head and pressure control means to control the pressure of the gas at atmospheric pressure without extraneous dilution. In a preferred embodiment the pressure control means includes an elongated tube having a ratio of length to diameter of at least 800. A method for determining the oxidative stability of polymer under shear conditions is also disclosed. The apparatus and process may be used for the determination of the oxidative stability of, for example, elastomeric and thermoplastic polymers under conditions resembling the conditions under which such polymers are fabricated into articles.
