Abstract: A phase modulation system is described in which the phase of a carrier wave can assume one of a number of permitted values in each symbol period and wherein transitions between the permitted values occur at transition periods between symbol periods. Difficulties associated with phase transitions are reduced or overcome by storing or generating the transitions with a number of cycles of the carrier wave of the appropriate phase(s) on either side thereof, a wave train being built up by merging the corresponding oscillations of the same phase which succeed and preceed respectively two adjacent transitions.

Abstract: This application describes a rotation-only CT scanner with beam deflections; the deflection and the rotation being so related as to permit the derivation of absorption data in groups focussed on respective "pivot points" outside the detector locus. Data derived from different detectors, but focussed on the same pivot point, relate to groups of paths, some of which overlap, and the overlap is used to compare the performances of different detectors. To reduce data handling, data provided by adjacent detectors can be combined.

Abstract: A power supply of the switching type having alternately conductive switching transistors coupled to the primary of a transformer, in which a control circuit insures that the switching transistors are never simultaneously conductive. The control circuit utilizes two multivibrators having a common timing circuit for generating pulses which have their leading edges synchronized and are such that the width of the pulses from one multivibrator is never less than the width of the pulses from the other multivibrator, thus insuring a minimum dead time interval between the on times of the alternately switched transistors. Circuit protection is provided by sensing and feedback of the current through the transformer secondary or primary windings, and by sensing the saturation voltage across the switching transistors, to regulate the duty cycle of the pulses generated by the control circuit. Power for the control circuit and the switching transistor drive circuitry is provided from the secondary of the transformer.
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of preparing an immunological agent. It also concerns the product obtained and its application. The method is characterized by:contacting a parasiticidal drug with a previously defined total extract of antigens of the corresponding parasite in such a manner that the previously defined target antigens attach themselves to the drug, thereupon, possibly, effecting a removal of the target antigens from the said drug.

Abstract: An aqueous slurry of from 60 to 80 percent titanium dioxide is prepared from titanium dioxide of uniform and small particle size. At least 80 percent by weight of pigment is incorporated into an aqueous system containing suitable dispersant which slurry is then reduced to the final slurry concentration with water.
Abstract: Separating triarylboranes, e.g., triphenylborane from diaryl substituted boranes, e.g., diphenyl borinic acid by precipitation wherein the triaryl borane is present in a basic solution as the adduct while avoiding coprecipitation of the boranes by neutralizing the solution to a pH not less than the pH defined by the equationpH=pKn+log (X)and maintaining the ionic strength of the solution so that it is at least about 1 molar upon completion of the neutralization.
Abstract: Copolymers of vinylidene fluoride with at least one other fluorinated- ethylenically unsaturated monomer are press-cured at about 163.degree.-204.degree. C. by crosslinking with an aromatic polyhydroxy compound in the presence of an accelerator in a weakly basic system, at least a portion of the polyhydroxy compound being blocked by conversion to acetal or thioacetal groups. At the press-cure temperature some of the acetal or thioacetal groups are decomposed and the free hydroxyl groups are reformed, thus providing crosslinking capability. The remainder of acetal or thioacetal groups are decomposed during post-cure oven heating at a higher temperature, and under those conditions copolymer vulcanization is completed. Press-cured compositions of this invention have excellent hot tensile elongation, which permits easy demoldability; and very good recyclability, which eliminates or reduces fluoropolymer waste. The compositions of this invention also have excellent mold flow properties at press-cure temperature.
Abstract: Photosensitive, elastomeric compositions containing(1) a high molecular weight butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer,(2) a low molecular weight butadiene polymer,(3) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and(4) a free-radical generating systemhave outstanding properties as photosensitive coatings for flexographic printing plates. When the combination of high and low molecular weight polymers contains at least about 2% by weight of carboxyl groups, the compositions are processable in aqueous or semiaqueous basic solutions.
Abstract: In a computerized tomographic apparatus for medical radiographic purposes, high definition information is sometimes required in respect of a region inside the body. It is therefore necessary to subject that region to a considerable radiation dosage. This gives rise to difficulties of excessive dosage to the skin and other portions of the body surrounding said region. The invention provides an arrangement whereby radiation is projected through said region by way of different areas of the skin so as to provide the high definition information required for said region without subjecting the skin to excessive radiation dosage.
Abstract: A polyamine/epoxy ester graft copolymer having an acrylic polyamine backbone with secondary amine and hydroxy functionality, part of which is terminal primary hydroxy groups, onto which is grafted an epoxy-fatty acid ester. The ester is an epoxy resin reacted with a fatty acid resulting in a monoepoxide ester with one or less epoxy group per acid group. The ester is reacted with part of the secondary amine on the acrylic backbone. This system can be formulated to a nearly-neutral pH cathodic dispersion with good cure response at 150.degree.-175.degree. C. using conventional aminoplast crosslinkers.

Abstract: A piston stroke adjusting arrangement disc-type friction clutches or brakes used most advantageously in forging machines and presses where rapid engagement and disengagement of clutches and brakes is essential. The arrangement includes a housing and a cylinder flange, fast with each other, the cylinder receiving the piston reciprocating therein. Axial displacement of the piston is limited by a washer arrangement in a groove made in the housing and having radially running recesses of different depths. The flange of the cylinder carries an abutment engageable in one of the radial recesses of the washer. The disclosed construction simplifies the structure of the arrangement, as a whole, and provides for both rapid and reliable adjustment of the piston stroke value.
