  • Patent number: 5052754
Abstract: An automotive vehicle headrest arrangement in which a headrest body is attached to a seat back so as to be controllably movable in a vertical direction and in a front-and-aft direction by driving mechanisms. The headrest arrangement comprises an outer stay and an inner stay which are vertically disposed in the seat back and vertically movable respectively by the driving mechanisms disposed in the seat back. The outer and inner stays are pivotally attached to a headrest body so that the headrest body is movable in a vertical direction and a front-and-aft direction under the vertical movement of the outer and inner stays. With this arrangement, since the headrest body is kept in a desired position without a fixing mechanism, the head rest arrangement is relatively simplified, thereby lowering a production cost.

  • Patent number: 5048786
Abstract: A power seat drive mechanism for an automobile has a motor which drives a worm which in turn drives a worm wheel at a given speed. The worm wheel is connected to a threaded shaft which it drives to rotate. Rotation of the threaded shaft forces it through a nut which is fixed to the body of the vehicle. This drives the threaded shaft which is connected to the sliding frame of the seat longitudinally with respect to the vehicle. In order to prevent force exerted on the seat in the direction of its travel, from causing the threaded shaft to rotate faster than it is being driven and thus overrun the worm gear, a resilient governor member is included which provides a limited braking effect and tends to resist the rotation of the shaft. With this configuration, backlash in the drive mechanism is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5033792
Abstract: An armrest attaching mechanism wherein armrest attaching brackets are attached to arms arranged at the seat back of a reclining seat. The arm is a member different from the seat cushion and seat back of the seat and the process of attaching the arm to the bracket can be thus made independent of the seat assembly process, thereby making the seat assembly process easy. The bracket is swingably attached to the arm to swing the armrest between its used position and its not-used position.

  • Patent number: 5033771
Abstract: An airbag restraint system for protecting a vehicle passenger in the event of a serious vehicle collision. The airbag is comprised of an airbag which is adapted to inflate upon being supplied with gas from a gas generator. The airbag includes a bag-shaped section which has generally circular rear and front side sheet members which are joined together at their peripheral portions to define a gas chamber to be filled with the gas from the gas generator. A plurality of suspension belts are disposed inside the bag-shaped section. One end of each suspension belt is sewed to a belt catch member which is in turn sewed to the central part of the rear side sheet member, thereby forming a sewed section. The sewed section extends linearly and includes a straightly extending portion which is generally perpendicular to a lenghwise direction of each suspension belt.

  • Patent number: 5015026
Abstract: A rear seat cushion for the seat of an automobile is movable from a riding position to an escaped position. A seat back for the seat can be tilted forward from its normal standing position to a stacked position in which it lays over the seat cushion or, when the seat cushion is in the escaped position, to a "sunken" position in which it occupies the same space on the floor of the automobile that the seat cushion occupies in the riding position. A connector link of the hinge of the seat back has a unique arrangement of stops which allow the seat back to be maintained in each of its three positions without the need for the user to perform any locking operations. Also the seat back can be moved from one state to any of the others without any need for inconvenient unlocking operations of the hinge mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5002339
Abstract: A pair of cover half members are attached to each other and to a seat hinge base plate in such a manner as to enclose the base plate. The respective cover halves each snap directly onto the base plate at a single point on their lower sides. At their upper sides the covers snap onto each other. The connection between the covers and the base plate is firm but is still resilient enough to allow sufficient movement between the cover assembly and the base plate in the event that large forces or shocks are applied to the cover. The connection between the cover halves is sufficiently strong that forces acting on the cover halves cannot readily force them apart nor cause them to become detached from the base plate.

  • Patent number: 4991907
Abstract: A head rest for the seat of an automotive vehicle is attached to a stay by means of a bolt which tightens a clamping clip onto the stay. The same bolt functions to hold the clip in place within the internal structure of the head rest. The engaging pressure of the clip can be adjusted by the bolt, and therefore, the precision with which the parts are formed does not need to be high allowing the head rest to be made inexpensively. By providing the clip in the interior of the head rest as opposed to an outside surface, it is possible to prevent injury to the vehicle occupants which might otherwise be caused by impacts on the clip or the bolt during an accident.
