Abstract: A coating composition may include kaolin having a shape factor less than about 70 and calcium carbonate, wherein less than about 90% by weight and greater than about 60% by weight of particles of the calcium carbonate have an equivalent spherical diameter (esd) less than 2 microns. The coating composition may include a thickener present in an amount ranging from about 0.1% to about 0.9% by active dry weight of the composition. A coating composition may include kaolin having a shape factor less than about 70 and calcium carbonate having a mean particle size (d50) of at least about 2.4 microns and a steepness factor of at least about 30. The coating composition may be a paper basecoat composition or a paperboard basecoat composition. A paper or paperboard product may include the coating composition on at least one surface of the paper product or paperboard product.
Abstract: A process for treating a sulfurous fluid to form gypsum and magnesium carbonate, whereby the sulfurous fluid is scrubbed with a sequestrating agent to yield a scrubbed fluid, gypsum and magnesium sulfate. The flue gas desulfurized gypsum is isolated from the magnesium sulfate solution by filtration or centrifugation. The magnesium sulfate is reacted with a carbonate salt to produce a magnesium carbonate whereby the reaction conditions are controlled to control the properties of the magnesium carbonate produced.

Abstract: A reinforced resin composition may include a polycarbonate, a functionalizing agent, and an inorganic filler that has been functionalized with the functionalizing agent, the functionalized inorganic filler being present in an amount ranging from 1 to 25 percent by weight of the resin composition. The reinforced resin may exhibit a melt flow index of 25 or less, when measured at a load of 1.2 kg, after allowing the resin to remain at a temperature of 300° C. for 10 minutes. A method of reducing thermal degradation of a reinforced polycarbonate material may include introducing into said polycarbonate material at least one inorganic filler functionalized with a functionalizing agent, such that the reinforced resin exhibits a melt flow index of 25 or less, when measured at a load of 1.2 kg, after allowing the resin to remain at a temperature of 300° C. for 10 minutes.

A deaerated talc may include micronized talc powder having enough cohesive strength for form agglomerations measuring 100 millimeters or less, 75 millimeters or less, or 50 millimeters or less. A deaerated talc product may include a micronized talc powder, and a bag containing the deaerated talc. Abstract: Spherical and rod-shaped proppants and anti-flowback agents made from flash calcined clays, such as flash calcined kaolin, possess high strength and high conductivity. The starting material may optionally be milled to achieve better compacity and crush resistance in the final proppant or anti-flowback agent. A fracturing fluid may include the rods or spheres alone, or in combination with each other or other proppants or anti-flowback agents of different shapes.
