Abstract: An electronic mail (email) system may include at least one email server configured to store email messages in a plurality of mailboxes, where the email messages are organized into conversations, and a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices each configured to store email messages from respective mailboxes. The system may also include at least one email synchronization server configured to synchronize email messages between a given mobile wireless communications device and its respective mailbox so that the given mobile wireless communications device stores a subset of email messages from among a full set of email messages from a given conversation, and to update the full set of email messages in the given conversation based upon receiving a conversation update command from the given mobile wireless communications device.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use by a mobile communication device (MCD) operating in a wireless communication network for increasing call performance through controlled temporary interruption of data transfer by the relay network outside of the wireless network. One illustrative method involves identifying a voice call request at the MCD operating in the wireless network and, in response to identifying the voice call request, performing the following actions of sending a pause data indicator to the relay network over the wireless communication network; sending a call confirm or setup voice call message to the wireless communication network for establishing the voice call; and maintaining the voice call at the mobile communication device. The pause data indicator is defined to pause data transfer for the MCD at the relay network.

Abstract: A method, product, and apparatus for imprinting a three-dimensional design into a textured surface of a synthetic material includes laser-ablating the design into the synthetic material and then imprinting the design. The design is laser-ablated into the textured surface of the synthetic material by vaporizing a portion of the material in an x-y shape of the design to a predetermined z-depth. The vaporized portions of the material form a design-shaped void that extends a prescribed distance into the textured surface of the synthetic material. In one implementation, the design is imprinted by inserting a tool in the design-shaped void of the laser-ablated design. The tool has a substantial conformance fit with the void, thereby forming a substantially distortion-free imprint of the design on the synthetic material.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for prevention of user-level applications from initiating data connection establishment using signaling from radio code, the method including receiving a request from an application on a mobile device at a tunnel management module on the mobile device, the request being to establish a data connection with a network; checking a state of a tunnel for the data connection at the tunnel management module; blocking the connection request if the tunnel for the data connection is in a stalled state; and allowing the connection request to proceed to a networking access interface module if the tunnel for the data connection is not in a stalled state.

Abstract: A system and method implemented at a communication device or mobile hotspot device for providing access to data services over a wireless communication network to one or more user devices. The communication or hotspot device is adapted to provide router, mobile hotspot-type or ad hoc networking functions to user devices such as laptops, tablets, and other entertainment and productivity devices adapted to communicate over a wireless LAN and to provide access to broadband data services. The data services provided over the network may be subject to one or more data allowances or data transfer limits. The communication or hotspot device is adapted to manage the user device connections and data transfer to and from the communication device within the data allowances or according to predetermined prioritization.

Abstract: A scheme for facilitating accelerated network selection by a wireless user equipment (UE) device. In one exemplary embodiment, prior to performing a full band scan, the wireless UE device is operable to interrogate a list of networks with which the wireless UE device has registered at least once in a given period of time, wherein a network availability likelihood score may be associated with each of the list of networks. A particular network is selected from the list of networks based on its network availability likelihood score.

Abstract: A multiple-element antenna for a wireless communication device is provided. The antenna comprises a first antenna element having a first operating frequency band and a floating antenna element positioned adjacent the first antenna element to electromagnetically couple to the first antenna element. The floating antenna element is configured to operate in conjunction with the first antenna element within a second operating frequency band. A feeding port connected to the first antenna element connects the first antenna element to communications circuitry and exchanges communication signals in both the first operating frequency band and the second operating frequency band between the multiple-element antenna and the communications circuitry. In a wireless mobile communication device having a transceiver and a receiver, the feeding port is connected to both the transceiver and the receiver.

Abstract: A method, mobile device and activation server for wirelessly activating a mobile communication device at an activation server sends an activation summary to the mobile communication device in response to receiving a request for activation. The activation summary provides notification of a number of services that can be activated on the mobile communication device. Responsive to receiving a selection of at least one of the services, the method downloads at least one of configuration information and routing information for the selected service to the mobile communication device.
