Abstract: An electronic mobile device includes a display, a tilt sensor and a processor. The display is for displaying a graphical element. The tilt sensor is configured to measure a tilt angle of the mobile device. The processor is configured to store the measured tilt angle as a reference tilt angle, subsequently determine a delta tilt angle as the difference between a currently measured tilt angle and the reference tilt angle, compare the delta tilt angle to different thresholds, and alter the position of the displayed element on the display at a rate that is based on the number of the thresholds the delta tilt angle has exceeded.

Abstract: A system and method of selecting messaging settings on a messaging client are provided. A data store configured to operate in conjunction with the messaging client stores records comprising messaging settings or characteristics for previously received and/or sent messages. The messaging client is configured to send outgoing messages, each of the messages having message characteristics, to determine whether a record for an addressed recipient of an outgoing message exists in the data store, and to select messaging settings to control the message characteristics of the outgoing message based on the record where a record exists.

Abstract: A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing and circuit board carried by the housing. Radio Frequency (RF) circuitry is mounted on the circuit board. A first antenna is supported by the circuit board within the housing and operatively connected to the RF circuitry and configured for cellular phone communications. A second antenna is supported by the circuit board within the housing and operatively connected to the RF circuitry and configured for WiFi communications. The second antenna comprises an inverted-F or monopole antenna having an opening gap that is pointed away from the first antenna.
Abstract: An example aspect includes a mobile device that can perform a method where a conference call schedule is kept in a calendaring application, which is made to reference a temporary entry in a contact manager, which tracks access information, such as a dial-in number, an authentication code, and descriptive information for the call, such as a name for the call. The access information from the temporary contact entry is used to establish the call, and the descriptive information from the contact entry is outputted, such as through a display. An entry in a log can be created for the call using the descriptive information from the temporary contact entry. The temporary contact entry can be maintained if the conference call is to be repeated, or else it can be deleted. Such devices and methods provide an enhanced user experience for conference calls, by providing logging and display of more descriptive information about the calls.

Abstract: A mobile communication device, a corresponding connecting mechanism and method are provided. The device comprises a connecting mechanism which rotatably couples a lid member and a base member at a linked end of the device. The connecting mechanism also translationally couples the lid and the base member. When the device is in the closed position, displacing the lid member of the device in the direction of the free end of the device may initiate movement of the device to the opened position.

Abstract: A system and method for scheduling advertisement viewing sessions (“ad meetings”) and delivering those advertisements to a willing user. An ad meeting is scheduled by a user by creating and storing an ad meeting calendar item and sending a notification to an advertising agent. The advertising agent may select advertisements to send to the user based on the user's specified preferences, location, the time of the meeting, the time of the shopping trip, and/or other criteria. Alternatively, the advertising agent may invite users to an ad meeting by sending an invitation containing an ad meeting calendar item, or alternatively a user may share advertisements with other users by forwarding advertisements or inviting other users to an ad meeting. As an incentive to view advertisements, the user may have credits applied to their communications service provider account based on their advertisement viewing and sharing activity.
Abstract: A mobile device and method are provided that make use of a removable memory with stored radio information. The removable device is distinct from an identity module (such as a SIM or USIM). The mobile device updates the stored radio information and makes use of it. When a user switches SIMs, but keeps the removable memory, the radio information will still be available. The user can also switch the removable memory to another device containing a different SIM, or containing the same SIM as the previous device, and the stored information will again be available on the new device.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and device for analyzing and responding to voice mail messages. A voice mail message may contain one or more addresses or phone numbers associated with the calling party. The portion of the voice mail message containing an address may be recognized and processed with speech recognition algorithms to determine one or more spoken addresses associated with the voice mail message. The recognized spoken addresses may be displayed by a communications device and the portion of the voice mail message recognized as containing the spoken addresses may be replayed in order for a user to confirm the recognized address. Communications to an address associated with the voice mail message may be enabled while the portion of the voice mail message is replayed.
Abstract: A method of controlling an electronic device that has a touch-sensitive display includes detecting a touch at an area associated with a character displayed on the touch-sensitive display, adding the character to a character string, identifying, from stored data, objects that at least partially match the character string, determining a next character of ones of the objects identified to yield a set of next characters, increasing a size of an area associated with each character of the set of next characters, and reducing the size of the area associated with each character of the set of next characters with time absent detection of a further touch.

Abstract: A communication device and method for displaying messages, such as e-mail messages, is provided. When the message is lengthy, containing content from one or more replicated previous messages (such as earlier messages copied in a subsequent reply or forwarding message), the replicated previous messages are typically appended at the end of the message in reverse chronological order. The device identifies the replicated previous messages by delimiters included in the message, and displays the various delimited segments of the message in a reverse order so that the replicated previous messages can be read in the order in which they were transmitted, without requiring the user to read through the entire message from beginning to end. The device may automatically scroll through the content, or may page through the content in response to user commands.
Abstract: A method on a handheld device is provided. The method comprises sending a request from the handheld device to initiate an application on a host computer, receiving data related to the application from the host computer at the handheld device, and displaying the data in a view of the application appearing on the handheld device.
Abstract: A system and method of reducing the WLAN power consumption and limiting battery drain of a mobile communications device is provided. The mechanism continuously monitors for changes in the WLAN and cellular signal strength and modifies the WLAN profile scanning activity accordingly. By monitoring for changes, transitions can be detected which indicate the location of the mobile device (i.e., indoor or outdoor). An increase in cellular signal strength and a decrease in WLAN signal strength indicates the user is transitioning outdoors where WLAN coverage may be limited. To reduce battery power consumption, background scanning is suspended or its frequency significantly lowered. Moving indoors is indicated by a decrease in cellular signal strength and an increase in WLAN signal strength. Background/Connectivity scanning frequency is increased to provide shorter time-to-connect to WLAN Networks for the user within the WLAN coverage area.

Abstract: Object detection and selection for use in a device having digital camera functionality is described. The mechanism detects the occurrence of a gesture by a pointing member in an image frame captured by an IR image sensor. The gesture is then recognized and an object pointed to is detected. The object detected is then selected as a result of the gesture recognition.
Abstract: A communications device includes a housing and radio frequency (RF) circuitry and a processor carried by the housing and operative with each other. A Near Field Communications (NFC) circuit is carried by the housing and connected to the processor. This circuit is configured to detect an NFC enabled tag using an NFC communications protocol when the device is positioned near the tag. The circuit generates a disable signal to the processor upon detecting the NFC enabled tag. The processor is configured to cause the device to enter a locked, operating mode upon receiving the disable signal and to enter or remain in an unlocked, operating mode if the NFC circuit does not generate a disable signal indicative that the NFC circuit has not detected the NFC enabled tag.
