Abstract: An electronic device having a touchscreen display. A graphical user interface (GUI) is displayed on the touchscreen display that includes a user interface element displayed in a default state at a location, the user interface element being associated with a function. The user interface element is changed from the default state to a first state upon detecting a first input event at the location. The user interface element is changed from the first state to a second state upon detecting a second input event at the location.
Abstract: A communications system is to communicate with an application server storing a plurality of applications. The communications system includes a mobile wireless communications device configured to store at least one application from among the plurality of applications, the at least one application having stored version information associated therewith. An intermediate server is configured to update the mobile wireless communications device by at least obtaining respective current version information for associated current versions of the plurality of applications and obtaining the stored application version information from the mobile wireless communications device for the at least one stored application. The stored application version information is compared with the current version information for the at least one stored application.
Abstract: A method of controlling a portable electronic device having a touch screen display moveable with respect to a base thereof. The method includes providing a graphical user interface having user-selectable features on the touch screen display, detecting a touch event at a first location on the touch screen display, rendering a navigation indicator at a first feature of the user-selectable features in the graphical user interface in response to detecting the touch event at the first location, determining if a confirmation of selection is received from release of a switch actuated as a result of movement of the touch screen display with respect to the base, and selecting the first feature in response to determination that the confirmation of selection is received with the touch event at the first location.

Abstract: A switch assembly is provided to actuate a pair of switches using a single push key, e.g. for a camera that utilizes a first switch to activate an image focusing function and a second switch to activate a camera shutter. The switch assembly comprises a contact pad switch and a dome switch that are located laterally to one another. When the push key receives a first downward force, only the contact pad switch becomes activated and a first electric circuit is completed. When the push key receives a second downward force that is greater than the first force, the dome switch collapses and a second electric circuit is completed.

Abstract: A mobile electronic device has a dome switch assembly secured to the housing of the device, over a recess formed in the housing of device. The dome switch assembly has a substrate with a vent hole communicating between the recess of the housing and the space comprised between the substrate and a dome actuation portion of the dome switch assembly. Upon actuation of the dome switch assembly, air present between the dome actuation portion and the substrate flows into the recess of the housing.
Abstract: A method of controlling a portable electronic device that has a touch screen display moveable relative to a base thereof. The method includes rendering a graphical user interface including selectable text, detecting a touch event on the touch screen display, detecting actuation of a switch caused by movement of the touch screen display relative to the base during the touch event and determining a first location of touch at the time of actuation, detecting release of the switch and determining a second location of touch at the time of release of the switch, and selecting text from the first location of touch to the second location of touch.
Abstract: A method of controlling a portable electronic device that has a touch screen display includes rendering a graphical user interface including a plurality of selectable features, detecting a first touch event at a first location on the touch screen display, detecting a second touch event at a second location on the touch screen display during the first touch event, and selecting ones of the plurality of selectable features located in an area having boundaries defined by the first location and the second location to define a group of selected features.
