Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating paging of an access terminal operable in a radio communication system. The access terminal is identified by a portion of an input number, such as a session seed, pseudorandom, or other, number. The portion of the input number is included in a paging message. When the access terminal receives the paging message, the access terminal determines whether the paging message includes the input number.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, by which to permit selection by a user of a mobile node of with which cellular communication system network that the mobile node shall communicate by way of an interworking wireless local area network. User selection is provided even when the interworking wireless local area network is directly connected to the home network of the mobile node. A determiner determines whether the interworking wireless local area network is directly connected to the home network. And, responsive to the determinations, an identifier identifies the cellular communication system network associated with the interworking wireless local area network.
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating paging of an access terminal operable in a radio communication system. Access-terminal assignment is provided by which to identify an access terminal that is to be page. A first-generated number is detected, such as an access-terminal-originated number. Selection is made as to whether to use the first-generated number. If selection is made not to use the first-generated number, a second number is instead used.

The additional bit comprises, for example, an implicit bit or an explicit bit. The bit is associated with at an identity contained in the message.
Abstract: Generally, the present invention provides a method for detecting poor RF conditions, and entering different sleep mode levels or phases in accordance with the RF conditions to save battery power. Mobile device battery life can be conserved when the mobile device detects poor RF conditions and enters a deep sleep mode of operation. In this deep sleep mode of operation the mobile device periodically samples the RF conditions and gradually increases the period between samples when the RF conditions do not improve. Because mobility can change the RF condition for wireless devices even in areas of good RF coverage, the mobile device operating in the deep sleep mode can detect this mobility and thus enhance the probability of entering an idle state, or alternatively, entering a longer power save mode. When the RF condition improves, the mobile device exits from the deep sleep mode and returns to the idle state.
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method for facilitating paging of an access terminal operable in a radio communication system. A plurality of random numbers are generated. And, for each of the random numbers, a hash value is created by applying the random number to a hash function. The hash values identify bit locations of a paging message. When the paging message is formed, bit locations associated with the hash values are populated with bit values are populated with bit values that identify whether the access terminal is being paged. And, the access terminal checks the bit values at the bit locations associated with the hash values to determine whether the access terminal is being paged.

The handheld electronic device includes a keyboard assembly, a display positioned adjacent the keyboard assembly, a processor structured to receive inputs from the keyboard assembly and to output to the display as a function of the inputs, the processor further structured to run a disambiguation routine. The keyboard assembly includes a printed circuit board, a primary conductor portion, a secondary conductor portion, and a keyboard assembly. The printed circuit board has a plurality of electrical contacts. The conductor assembly has a plurality of primary conductors and a plurality of secondary conductors, each the primary conductor and secondary conductor structured to correspond to, and engage and close, at least one of the plurality of electrical contacts. The keyboard assembly has a plurality of keys each having one or more indicia thereon.
Abstract: A method and system for establishing a secure over-the-air (OTA) connection between a connection owner and a server, the connection owner being associated with a wireless device connected to the server via a communications network. A secure session is instantiated on behalf of the connection owner, the secure session being maintained by the server and defining a context for the secure OTA connection. A registration key and a reset key are defined, and stored in association with the secure session on both the server and the wireless device. Access to the secure session is controlled using at least the registration key, and the secure session is maintained on the server only as long as the connection owner has a valid registration key.

Abstract: In one illustrative example, a mobile communication device has a plurality of software applications including an Internet browser application, an electronic mail (e-mail) communication application, and an audio or video player application. The mobile device is adapted to receive, from wireless communication networks or through use thereof, available quality of service data for the wireless networks and store the corresponding data in association with each network identification. The available quality of service data includes at least a bandwidth criterion and a delay criterion associated with each wireless network.
Abstract: Keypad keys for handheld mobile communication devices feature flexible key bodies and actuators extending from the key bodies. Switches below the actuators are connected in series circuits. All actuators beneath an intended key must be depressed in order for the circuit to be closed and the key to be recognized as actuated. The flexible nature of the key bodies allows one actuator on a given key to be depressed while other actuators remain non-depressed. This prevents the key from being recognized as actuated when a only a portion of the key is depressed as occurs, for example, due to finger overlap.

Abstract: Apparatus and an associated method for facilitating paging of an access terminal by an access network of a radio communication system. A quick paging message is first generated and sent to the access terminal. The quick paging message is formed of partial comparators, comprised of a first group of identity bits. A regular paging message is also generated and sent to the access terminal. The regular paging message is formed of partial comparators, comprised of a second group of identity bits. If, upon detection of the quick paging message, the access terminal determines that it is paged, the access terminal sends a response. The first and second groups of identity bits are, for example, different parts of the same number.
Abstract: Methods and devices for implementing a camera restriction on a wireless handheld communication device. As more handheld devices incorporate camera functionalities, organizations and individuals with privacy concerns are more vulnerable to unauthorized disclosure. The camera restriction prevents a user from taking a picture of a subject if the device has not been steadily focused on the subject in question for a predetermined period of time. In short, this process extends the normal camera-taking procedure and thus requires the camera user to take pictures in a conspicuous manner—the rationale being that a camera user would be less likely to take unauthorized pictures if such actions could be easily recognized. The camera restriction can be communicated to the device via a wireless communication network. Additionally, the restrictions and boundaries can be communicated to the device as part of an IT security policy.
Abstract: A scheme for pushing user data items from a messaging host system in real-time delivery to a wireless mobile data device that is associated with a computer connected over a network to the messaging host system. In one embodiment, a method comprises one or more of the following: automatically detecting arrival of a user data item at the messaging host system, wherein the user data item is addressed to a recipient's address that is viewable via the computer; processing at least a portion of an instance of the user data item to add address information associated with the recipient's wireless mobile data device to result in a processed data item; and sending the processed data item to the wireless mobile data device over a wireless network, whereby the at least a portion of the instance is pushed to the wireless mobile data device in real-time delivery.
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating paging of access terminals by way of a quick page message. A partial identity comparison scheme is utilized. Identifiers of access terminals that are to be paged in the quick page message are determined and compared. In the event that the identifiers are of redundant values, the redundant values are removed, thereby to provide additional locations in the quick page message that are not redundant for use better to page the access terminals that are to be paged.
Abstract: Apparatus and an associated method for facilitating paging of access terminals by way of a quick page message. A determination is made of the number of additional partial identity bits, if any, that are available to be conveyed as part of a page message. In a page message with partial identities, extra bits of the identities can be extracted based upon the order of the partial identities in the message. Extra partial identity bits are made available based upon ordering of partial identities in a page message.
