Publication number: 20070299921Abstract: A system and method for handling e-mail address mismatches between the address contained within a user's certificate or certificate chain, and the account address actually being used is disclosed. In order to resolve address mismatches a canonical or generic domain name or user name may, for example, be used as a lifelong address of a user that is contained in the user's certificate. Upon detection of an address mismatch, the system and method disclosed herein may automatically re-check the certificate or search for a certificate containing the canonical or generic domain name and/or user name to attempt to resolve the mismatch. This mismatch resolution is preferably transparent to the user and occurs automatically. The canonical or generic domain and/or user names that are available to the device may be typically controlled by IT policy that is in place on the system for the device.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2006Publication date: December 27, 2007Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: Michael K. Patent number: 7312726Abstract: A handheld electronic device includes a reduced QWERTY keyboard and is enabled with disambiguation software. The device provides output in the form of a default output and a number of variants. The output is based largely upon the frequency, i.e., the likelihood that a user intended a particular output, but various features of the device provide additional variants that are not based solely on frequency and rather are provided by various logic structures resident on the device. The device enables editing during text entry and also provides a learning function that allows the disambiguation function to adapt to provide a customized experience for the user. The disambiguation function can be selectively disabled and an alternate keystroke interpretation system provided.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2004Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventors: Vadim Fux, Michael G. Patent number: 7313419Abstract: Generally, the present invention provides a method for detecting poor RF conditions, and entering different sleep mode levels or phases in accordance with the RF conditions to save battery power. Mobile device battery life can be conserved when the mobile device detects poor RF conditions and enters a deep sleep mode of operation. In this deep sleep mode of operation the mobile device periodically samples the RF conditions and gradually increases the period between samples when the RF conditions do not improve. Because mobility can change the RF condition for wireless devices even in areas of good RF coverage, the mobile device operating in the deep sleep mode can detect this mobility and thus enhance the probability of entering an idle state, or alternatively, entering a longer power save mode. When the RF condition improves, the mobile device exits from the deep sleep mode and returns to the idle state.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2003Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventors: Khaledul M. Patent number: 7313371Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use in reestablishing a data connection with a wireless communication network are described. Initially, a wireless communication device maintains a data connection with a wireless communication network. During an out-of-coverage condition with the network, the wireless device is powered off. This causes the wireless device to reset its parameters associated with the data connection, but the wireless network will fail to disconnect since the wireless device is out-of-coverage. After being powered back on and regaining network coverage, the wireless device transmits a message to the network which causes one or more network parameters associated with the data connection to be reset. Subsequently, the wireless device transmits one or more additional messages to the network for reestablishing the data connection.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2003Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventor: Fraser C. Publication number: 20070286209Abstract: A system and method for handling address resolution protocol requests at an intermediary device in a local area network. The intermediary device has an address resolution protocol cache for mapping Internet protocol addresses to physical layer addresses for devices in the local area network. The intermediary device receives a multicast address resolution protocol request having an Internet protocol address for a device on the local area network. The address resolution protocol address contained in the multicast address resolution protocol request is extracted and the address resolution protocol cache is accessed to seek to obtain a physical layer address mapped to the extracted Internet protocol address. As a result, a directed address resolution protocol request is forwarded from the intermediary device to the local area network device corresponding to the physical layer address obtained from the intermediary device data memory.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 12, 2006Publication date: December 13, 2007Applicant: Research In Motion LimitedInventors: James Wang, Craig Dunk

Publication number: 20070288636Abstract: A dynamic endpoint aggregator aggregates dynamic endpoints of requested Web services for efficiently delivering the Web services to a Web service client. The client communicates to the aggregator a plurality of SOAP requests each having a SOAP header containing a redirect URL for the aggregator in turn to access each of the requested Web services. Web service data is aggregated by the aggregator and then efficiently communicated to the client, which is particularly useful when wireless clients access Web services because of the limited bandwidth available over the wireless link. The aggregator also handles dynamic endpoints by dynamically resetting all endpoints of requested Web services without burdening the wireless link.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 9, 2006Publication date: December 13, 2007Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: Adam ROGERS, Michael SHENFIELD

Publication number: 20070288811Abstract: A system and method for testing a data storage device without revealing memory content. To control the individual bits of the memory during testing each value is written into the memory according to the equation NEW_DATA=CURRENT_DATA XOR DATA_SEED such that individual bits of NEW_DATA are equal to CURRENT_DATA with selected bits inverted when the corresponding positions in DATA_SEED are high. NEW_DATA is written into the memory, read out and verified, so that all bit positions can be controlled and tested in both logic states, while NEW_DATA and CURRENT_DATA are not ascertainable by the testing software.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2007Publication date: December 13, 2007Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventor: Jerrold RANDELL
