  • Patent number: 7308042
Abstract: The power efficiency of a transmitter is optimized through control of a selected aspect of the transmitter, for instance, a parameter of a power amplifier within the transmitter. The control of the aspect is based on a generated indication of desired average transmitted power. Based on this indication, a hardware path produces a first adjustment signal and a software path produces a second adjustment value, where the second adjustment value has been previously determined to correspond to the particular indication of desired average transmitted power through calibration. A difference between a first adjustment value, which is based on the first adjustment signal, and the second adjustment value is used to produce a correction signal, which is used to alter the first adjustment signal and produce a signal to control the selected aspect of the transmitter.

Abstract: A system and method for generating runtime metadata for use in the development of mobile device applications. A metadata file, such as an XML file that is used to capture the metadata for a database associated with a mobile device application, is used to generate initialization code. This initialization code, when executed, creates runtime metadata for the application database in terms of a first object (e.g. classID object) through which metadata associated with the application database is accessible and at least one second object (e.g. propertyID object) through which metadata associated with a property of a data record of the application database is accessible.

  • Patent number: 7304254
Abstract: A shock absorbing roller thumb wheel is disclosed. The shock absorbing thumb wheel includes a central hub that can be secured to an electro-mechanical switch, a rim encircling the central hub, and force dispersion spokes extending from the central hub and connected to the rim. The configuration of the force dispersion spokes and the resilient material of the force dispersion spokes and the rim allow for radial and lateral deflection of the rim in response to an applied impact force. The impact force is thereby at least partially absorbed by the radial and lateral deflection of the rim and spokes, such that less impact force is transferred to connections between the electro-mechanical switch and any assembly to which the switch is attached. Hence, the probability of connection failures is reduced, and the lifetime of a device that uses the thumb wheel can be extended.

  • Publication number: 20070274289
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for originating a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) call from a user equipment (UE) device in a network environment including a circuit-switched (CS) network and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) network to a called party are disclosed. In one illustrative example, when the SIP call is originated by the UE device in the CS network domain, a SIP Invite message which includes a SIP Uniform Resource Indicator (URI) or Tel URI of the called party is sent from the UE device to the IMS network (e.g. to an application server (AS) node). At the AS node, a pool of E.164 numbers are maintained as IP multimedia routing numbers (IMRNs) which are utilized for mapping to or otherwise associating with called party URIs. Thus, the AS node dynamically allocates a select E.164 number with respect to the called party's URI received from the UE device, and returns it to the UE device in a SIP 380 (Alternative Service) Response message. Subsequently, the dynamically-allocated E.

  • Publication number: 20070277100
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a method and system for enabling a simple and efficient method of directional arrows for the purpose of easily maneuvering throughout a contextual menu system (i.e., menus, text entry boxes, buttons, and the like) on a mobile device using limited input keys. In one embodiment, this allows a user to only require a rocker key with “directional arrows” and a select key, which is sometimes referred to as an “OK” or “Enter” key, to fully maneuver a menu and text entry system on a mobile device. This includes going forwards and backwards in the menu system tree, in addition to moving upwards and downwards in any menu list, all without needing to use any other keys. In another embodiment, this solution enables and illustrates a plurality of a-priori defined graphical pathways for the user to navigate.

  • Publication number: 20070266247
Abstract: Embodiments of a system and method for providing additional security for data being transmitted across a wireless connection that has been established using a known wireless protocol (e.g. Bluetooth) are described. An encryption key is exchanged between a computing device (e.g. a mobile device) and a wireless peripheral output device (e.g. a printer, a headset). In exemplary embodiments, the encryption key is generated at the peripheral output device. Data associated with the encryption key is output at the peripheral output device, which can be input by the user at the computing device. The encryption key is then recovered at the computing device from the input, thereby completing the key exchange. The encryption key can then be used to encrypt and decrypt data transmitted over the established wireless connection, providing additional security.

  • Publication number: 20070263558
Abstract: In a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), roaming from one access point to another by a mobile station without interruption to network service may be facilitated by frequently performing background scans to find neighboring access points while the mobile station is associated to the WLAN. Frequent background scanning, however, depletes battery life. By dynamically adjusting the background scanning interval during the mobile station's association to the WLAN, the mobile station's immediate need for network connectivity performance may be met, while simultaneously prolonging battery life. For example, by using a shorter background scanning interval during a telephone conversation, network connectivity performance may be maintained throughout the call. Longer background scanning intervals may be used during periods when interruptions to network connectivity may be better tolerated.
