  • Patent number: 7062298
Abstract: A mobile telephone communication device includes a processing subsystem, a memory subsystem, and a mobile telephone communication device program code comprising program instructions executable by the processing subsystem and stored in the memory subsystem that upon execution cause the mobile telephone communication device to determine if a phone call initiated to a phone number has connected. Then, upon determining that the phone call initiated to the phone number did not connect, the instructions cause the device to determine if the phone number has an associated replace code for any subset of the phone number. Finally, upon determining that the phone number has an associated replace code for any subset of the phone number, the instructions cause the device to replace the any subset of the phone number with the corresponding replace code to obtain a replace code number and initiate a phone call to the replace code number.

  • Publication number: 20060123313
Abstract: A system for adding a redundancy check to an electronic message to discourage tampering and facilitate identification of altered messages provides a communication device for composing message content, a messaging module with a formatting and encoding layer for encoding the message content with header information in a series of message blocks, and an encryption layer for calculating a redundancy check value and inserting the value in one or more locations within the series of message blocks according a rule defined by a characteristic of the message content or the header information, and encrypting the message for delivery to a recipient. Upon receipt, the recipient communication device decrypts the message, extracts the redundancy check value from the message, and compares a calculated redundancy check value with the extracted redundancy check value to determine if the message had been altered before receipt.

  • Patent number: 7057120
Abstract: A shock absorbing roller thumb wheel is disclosed. The shock absorbing thumb wheel includes a central hub that can be secured to an electro-mechanical switch, a rim encircling the central hub, and force dispersion spokes extending from the central hub and connected to the rim. The configuration of the force dispersion spokes and the resilient material of the force dispersion spokes and the rim allow for radial and lateral deflection of the rim in response to an applied impact force. The impact force is thereby at least partially absorbed by the radial and lateral deflection of the rim and spokes, such that less impact force is transferred to connections between the electro-mechanical switch and any assembly to which the switch is attached. Hence, the probability of connection failures is reduced, and the lifetime of a device that uses the thumb wheel can be extended.

  • Publication number: 20060117019
Abstract: A server find process by which a user enters a search term for a document attachment into his/her mobile communication device. If no occurrences of the term are found on the device, the device then prompts the user to initiate a server side search. If the user accepts, then the server searches the document attachment and returns the first section of text that contains the search term to the device for viewing by the user. This process can then be repeated until the server find feature reports that no further instances of the search string have been found on the server.

  • Publication number: 20060112419
Abstract: A system and method for retrieving certificates and/or verifying the revocation status of certificates. In one embodiment, when a user opens a digitally signed message, a certificate that is required to verify the digital signature on the message may be automatically retrieved if it is not stored on the user's computing device (e.g. a mobile device), eliminating the need for users to initiate the task manually. Verification of the digital signature may also be automatically performed by the application after the certificate is retrieved. Verification of the revocation status of a certificate may also be automatically performed if it is determined that the time that has elapsed since the status was last updated exceeds a pre-specified limit.

  • Publication number: 20060112266
Abstract: A method and device for authenticating software stored in non-volatile memory in a data processing device. The processor comprises an internal immutable memory, preferably a read only memory (ROM), and during the boot up procedure the software in external memory is authenticated using code that is stored in the internal ROM. The on-chip ROM is physically integrated with the processor itself, so the code stored in ROM can neither be tampered with nor replaced, and can therefore be assumed at all times to be authentic. Thus, in the method and device of the invention known good code is used to authenticate the untrusted code in external memory, so the integrity of the system is significantly improved.

  • Publication number: 20060097948
Abstract: A balanced dipole antenna has a coaxial cable connected between a load or source and the left and right dipole arms to substantially eliminate common mode current and radiative coupling between the coaxial cable and the left and right dipole arms. The connection between the source/load coaxial cable and the left and right dipole arms is a symmetric balun having a center branch that is an extension of the source/load coaxial cable, and left and right stubs. When the stubs are segments of coaxial cable, the outer conductors of the left and right stubs of the symmetric balun are respectively coupled to the left and right dipole arms, and one of the inner conductors of the left and right stubs is connected to the inner conductor of the center branch, while the other of the inner conductor of the left and right stubs is connected to the outer conductor of the center branch.

  • Publication number: 20060095388
Abstract: A system and method for verifying a digital signature on a certificate, which may be used in the processing of encoded messages. In one embodiment, when a digital signature is successfully verified in a signature verification operation, the public key used to verify that digital signature is cached. When a subsequent attempt to verify the digital signature is made, the public key to be used to verify the digital signature is compared to the cached key. If the keys match, the digital signature can be successfully verified without requiring that a signature verification operation in which some data is decoded using the public key be performed.

  • Patent number: 7038326
Abstract: An integrated circuit packaging assembly for reducing the length of bond wires transmitting radio frequency signals is disclosed herein. The die is offset in the packaging to position a subset of its bond pads in close proximity to package bond pads to allow for shorter bond wires, which reduces the inductive reactance that is induced in longer wires by high frequency signals. The subset of the bond pads is used for RF transmissions, while the other bond pads are used for direct current and low frequency signals.

  • Patent number: 7035070
Abstract: An over-voltage protection circuit is disclosed herein for protection against over-voltage of an energy storage device while charging. The circuit operates within the operational limits of a battery-operated device, such as a mobile or handheld device. The over-voltage protection circuit comprises an over-voltage protection device, and an over-voltage protection controller. The controller allows current to flow to the over-voltage protection device only when an energy storage device is experiencing over-voltage. In allowing current to flow to the over-voltage protection device only when the voltage across the energy storage device is above a predetermined voltage, power conservation is achieved.
