Abstract: Authenticity of a proposed future or current participant in a multi-party dialog is checked by splitting an authenticity challenge query into at least two portions wherein none of the portions individually contains sufficient information to fully define the challenge query. These separated portions are then sent to another dialog participant over at least two different communication channels thus enhancing the probability that a successive challenge response is authentic. The authenticity challenge query and splitting thereof into plural portions may include formation of a logical combination (e.g., exclusive-OR) of first and second data strings (one of which may be a challenge question) to produce a resultant third data string where the separated and separately communicated portions include the first and third data strings as separate portions as being sent over respectively different communication channels.

Abstract: A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing and circuit board carried by the housing. Radio frequency (RF) circuitry carried by the circuit board forms a transmitter and receiver. A processor is carried by the circuit board and operative with the RF circuitry. A keyboard connector is mounted on the circuit board. A plurality of Key_Out and Key_In connection lines are carried by the circuit board and connect the keyboard connector and processor. A keypad is carried by the housing and operatively connected to the keyboard connector. A filter is operative with each connection line for limiting degradation in receiver sensitivity.

Abstract: A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing and circuit board carried by the housing and includes radio frequency (RF) circuitry and a processor carried by the circuit board and operative with each other. A display connector for an LCD connector is mounted on the circuit board and adapted to be connected to a display. Display connection lines are carried by the circuit board and interconnect the display connector and processor for carrying signals from the processor to the display connector and a connected display. Filters are carried by the circuit board and connected to the display connection lines and reduce any interfering energy from the processor and display.

Abstract: A system and method for searching and retrieving certificates, which may be used in the processing of encoded messages. In one embodiment, a certificate synchronization application is programmed to perform certificate searches by querying one or more certificate servers for all certificate authority (CA) certificates and cross-certificates on the certificate servers. In another embodiment, all certificates related to an identified certificate are retrieved from the certificate servers automatically by the certificate synchronization application, where the related certificates comprise at least one of one or more CA certificates and one or more cross-certificates. Embodiments of the invention facilitate at least partial automation of the downloading and establishment of certificate chains, thereby minimizing the need for users to manually search for individual certificates.

Abstract: A system and method for detecting a synchronization (sync) signal in a communication signal are disclosed. A received communication signal is stored in a memory and portions thereof are read from the memory and monitored to detect the sync signal. When a detected sync signal is determined to be invalid, previously read portions of the received communication signal, preferably beginning at a portion of the received signal immediately after a start of the detected sync signal, are again read and monitored to detect the sync signal. Such reading and monitoring of previously read portions of a received signal provide for recovery from so-called false triggering based on invalid sync signals.

Abstract: A mobile wireless LAN communications device may include a portable, handheld housing, and a wireless LAN transceiver carried by the housing. A polarization diversity wireless LAN antenna may be included for cooperating with the wireless LAN transceiver to communicate over a wireless LAN. The polarization diversity wireless LAN antenna may include a first antenna element coupled to the wireless LAN transceiver having a first shape and a first polarization, and a second antenna element coupled to the wireless LAN transceiver having a second shape different from the first shape. The second antenna element may also have a second polarization different from the first polarization.

Abstract: Preferred embodiments of the invention relate to a method and device for authenticating a user of a computer and a corresponding system using the method and device. The device is a handheld electronic device having accessible thereto a first authentication code of the user. The handheld electronic device requires a second authentication code for enabling use thereof. In order to authenticate the user to the computer, the handheld electronic device is configured to transmit the first authentication code to the computer over a communication link between the computer and the handheld electronic device.

Abstract: A system and method for searching and retrieving certificates, which may be used in the processing of encoded messages. In one embodiment, a certificate synchronization application is programmed to perform certificate searches by querying one or more certificate servers for all of the certificates on those certificate servers. If all of the certificates on a certificate server cannot be successfully retrieved using a single search query, due to a search quota on the certificate server being exceeded for example, the search is re-performed through multiple queries, each corresponding to a narrower subsearch. The invention enables users to large amounts of certificates to be automatically searched for and retrieved from certificate servers, thereby minimizing the need for users to manually search for individual certificates.

Abstract: A data communication method and system for uniform arbitrary puncturing of parity bits generated by an encoder. The parity bits are stored in a buffer, and an a-bit accumulator is incremented to a predetermined initial value. For each parity bit in the buffer, the following steps are performed: the accumulator is incremented by a predetermined increment value, and if the accumulator overflows, the parity bit is selected for transmission. The predetermined initial value and the predetermined increment value are selected to achieve a desired amount of puncturing. In a further hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) communication method and system, the parity bits are generated by a low density parity check (LDPC) coder.

Abstract: A communications channel detector which determines the availability of a desired type of communications channel in a communication system having at least one communications channel, the communications channels including data streams comprising a number of data symbols. The channel detector includes a phase detector, a phase comparator coupled to the phase detector, and a phase correlator coupled to the phase comparator. The phase detector is configured to provide a plurality of phase measurements for at least two consecutive data symbols comprising a selected one of the communications channels. The phase comparator is configured to determine the phase differences between the obtained phase measurements. The phase correlator is configured to determine the whether or not the determined phase differences exhibit a predetermined phase difference profile.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for maintaining contact with a wireless communication network improve the timeliness in which traffic is delivered to a mobile communication device in marginal coverage areas. The number of times the mobile device informs the network of its presence in such coverage may be reduced based on predetermined network characteristics. In one illustrative example, the method involves continually maintaining and updating a message decode history list in memory and comparing it with a predetermined paging pattern of the network. The message decode history list keeps track of whether or not each message of a most recent plurality of regularly broadcasted messages has been successfully decoded. An update message which informs the network of the mobile device is transmitted in response to identifying that unsuccessful message decode indicators in the history list overlap with all page transmission periods of the network paging pattern.

Abstract: Systems and methods of mimetic message settings selection on a messaging client are provided. In one embodiment, when an outgoing message is composed on a messaging client, the messaging client determines whether the outgoing message is related to a received message. Where the outgoing message is related to the received message, the messaging client determines the messaging settings used in the received message, and selects the messaging settings used in the received message to control message characteristics of the outgoing message.

Abstract: A system and method for managing informational objects on a mobile device. A user-selectable option is displayed to a user of the mobile device. The option is associated with an action to be performed on informational objects sharing at least one specified characteristic (e.g., storing all e-mail messages that are part of the same thread in a folder, generating a distribution list of contacts belonging to a specified group). After the user has selected the option, the application identifies informational objects having the at least one specified characteristic and performs the action on the identified objects.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for a user of a mobile wireless communications device to have the option of viewing security status messages in a large or small format depending upon the user's preferences, form factor of the mobile communications device, or the like. In accordance with an exemplary aspect of the invention, a user may opt to display status icons on one row of a display and include an abbreviated text associated with each icon that is displayed when a particular icon is highlighted by the user. If no icon is highlighted by the user, the most important status text (determined based on predetermined criteria) is displayed. The user has the option of switching to a large status display to view additional information relating to the status icons.

Abstract: In a computer system, a system, method and computer program product for pre-selecting a folder for a current message. The system, method and computer program product involve (a) providing a folder pre-selection cache having n configurable entries, n being a predetermined positive integer greater than one, each configurable entry being configured to include an associated pre-selection criterion for matching with the current message, and an associated folder identification for identifying an associated folder in the plurality of folders; (b) for at least one entry in the folder pre-selection cache, comparing a comparison criterion, obtained from the current message, with the associated pre-selection criterion to determine a matching entry in the folder pre-selection cache; and, (c) pre-selecting the folder identified by the associated folder identification of the matching entry when the message comparison module determines the matching entry in the folder pre-selection cache.

Abstract: A frequency divider circuit for providing a divided clock signal having a frequency that is an odd integer factor less than the frequency of an incoming system clock signal. The frequency divider includes a clock generator circuit coupled to a delay circuit which operates in an active and a reset phase to provide a divided clock signal from the system clock signal. In the active phase, the clock generator circuit drives the divided clock signal to a first logic state until a reset signal is received. The delay circuit then generates the reset signal at a predetermined number of system clock edges after the divided clock signal is driven to the first logic state. In the reset phase, both the clock generator circuit and the delay circuit are reset in response to the reset signal such that the clock generator circuit immediately drives the divided clock signal to a second logic state, and the delay circuit disables the reset signal within the predetermined number of system clock edges.

Abstract: In some embodiments of the present invention, files are generated from java files or class files or jar files. The generated files are directly linkable and interpretable by a Java Virtual Machine. The generated files may be stored in a directly addressable memory of a device. References between class files may appear in the generated files as hard offsets or symbolic references. The generated files may be grouped so that cross-references between generated files in the same group appear as hard offsets.
