Abstract: A system and method of social interaction includes receiving interaction information for an interaction created by a first user of an electronic content work, the interaction information comprising an identification number of a portion of the electronic content work associated with the interaction. The system and method includes storing the received interaction information. The system and method also includes receiving a request from a second user requesting interaction information for a requested portion of the electronic content work. The system and method also includes sending the received interaction information in response to determining that the identification number associated with the received interaction information matches the identification in the request for interaction information.

Abstract: Systems and methods for exporting and automatically converting files that make up a digital content work from a first proprietary format to a second format, the second format being a format compatible with an open standards format. Such automatic conversion includes parsing a designated table of contents metadata file to build a list of the files referenced therein. For one or more respective files identified from the table of contents metadata file, each respective file is converted to an HTML5 file, from which a set of EPUB (or other open standards format) -compatible metadata files are created. The EPUB files include a manifest and a spine, which, together with the HTML5 files, are collectively packaged in an EPUB (or other open standards format) container file for distribution.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for managing user interface elements. In some embodiments, a first positioning of a user interface indicator is detected within a target region of a user interface, responsive to the first positioning, at least a portion of a user interface element is overlaid onto the user interface and at least one user interface control for receiving input on incorporation options for the user interface element into the user interface is presented, and the user interface is presented based on whether incorporation option input is received.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for conversion of content to formats suitable for digital distributions. In some embodiments, a transformation of selected markup elements within a content item into semantic markup elements is performed, where the transformation provides receipt of a selection indicative of a mapping between a chosen markup element and a pattern element of a defined pattern, the defined pattern defining at least one of a semantic markup tag and a semantic attribute for each pattern element, and processing of the transformation by assigning to the chosen markup element at least one of a semantic markup tag and a semantic attribute defined for the pattern element mapped to the chosen markup element.

Abstract: Systems and methods for displaying, responsive to user-designation of a desired set of media object previews for view, the previews of the media objects of an electronic content work within a single view on a display of a computer system. The view presents those previews of the media objects of the electronic content work appropriate for one or more target rendering environments, according to user-specified display criteria. The previews may be images of the media objects captured when the subject media objects were rendered in a simulated target rendering environment. In some cases, these may be images of the media objects captured with the media objects were in desired states during rendering thereof in the simulated target rendering environment. The view may present the previews according to user-defined size criteria.

Abstract: A user interface for presenting a set of related pages of an electronic content work for view at the same time. The pages are sized according to a target format for presentation of the electronic content work, and may also be formatted according to user-defined font and zoom criteria. Each of the related pages comprises a media object, for example a markup language object. Responsive to user manipulation of presentation criterion for the set of related pages, the set of related pages is reformatted and so presented in near real-time. In some instances, a user may manipulate controls of the user interface to isolate a content object included within the set of related pages, have information regarding that content object presented and even edit the content object in-line with the present view.

When making requests to content delivery network, a requesting Web browser may thus specify the content items according to uniform resource locators that include credentials that allow the content delivery network to verify that the browser is authorized to receive the content items. These uniform resource locators may uniquely associate the content items with the associated content element and the requesting browser in a cryptographically secure manner.

Abstract: A user interface for a mobile computing device includes three distinct display areas, one for presentation of an image and one or more interactive elements, a second for display of a linearly scrollable sequence of content elements, each of which is associated with a corresponding one of the interactive elements, and a third for display of soft keys, each of which corresponds to a respective one of the interactive elements. Abstract: A method for use with an electronic reading device comprising automatically fetching electronic media content and automatically and dynamically sequencing portions of the electronic media content for display on an electronic reading device. Optionally, the electronic media content can be automatically and dynamically divided into the portions that are then sequenced. Optionally, the electronic media content can be re-sequenced to reflect user preferences and needs. Various methods for recognizing and altering the display of the electronic reading device quickly and efficiently are disclosed.

Abstract: Methods and systems for facilitating limited access to paid-access or registration-required content items. In one example, a server responds to a request for access to a restricted access content item (e.g., from a Web browser) by first determining whether a user associated with the request is already authorized to access the content item. If the user is so authorized, the user is allowed access to the content item. If the user is not already authorized, the server provides the user a limited preview of the content item. The limited preview is subject to preview rules associated with one or more of: a referral path by which the user (i.e., the browser) was directed to the content item, the content item itself, and previous accesses or access attempts by the user to the content item and other content items, access to which other content items is controlled by the server.
