Abstract: A user interface for a mobile computing device includes three distinct display areas, one for presentation of an image and one or more interactive elements, a second for display of a linearly scrollable sequence of content elements, each of which is associated with a corresponding one of the interactive elements, and a third for display of soft keys, each of which corresponds to a respective one of the interactive elements. The soft keys and the interactive elements are responsive to user input so as to cause the image displayed in the first display area to feature prominently a portion thereof corresponding to the interactive element associated with the user input and the content element displayed within the second display area to be that associated with the same interactive element.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for presenting an interactive media presentation, the method including presenting media section descriptions with a selectable time code and a description; presenting a media controller and including a displayed time line with one or more selectable time points; upon playing a media item, advancing a time indicator along the time line in accordance with a playback position of the media item and featuring the media section description corresponding to the playback position in the media item.

Abstract: A method for use with an electronic reading device comprising automatically fetching electronic media content and automatically and dynamically sequencing portions of the electronic media content for display on an electronic reading device. Optionally, the electronic media content can be automatically and dynamically divided into the portions that are then sequenced. Optionally, the electronic media content can be re-sequenced to reflect user preferences and needs. Various methods for recognizing and altering the display of the electronic reading device quickly and efficiently are disclosed.

Abstract: Methods and systems for facilitating limited access to paid-access or registration-required content items. In one example, a server responds to a request for access to a restricted access content item (e.g., from a Web browser) by first determining whether a user associated with the request is already authorized to access the content item. If the user is so authorized, the user is allowed access to the content item. If the user is not already authorized, the server provides the user a limited preview of the content item. The limited preview is subject to preview rules associated with one or more of: a referral path by which the user (i.e., the browser) was directed to the content item, the content item itself, and previous accesses or access attempts by the user to the content item and other content items, access to which other content items is controlled by the server.

Abstract: In a method and a system for an Internet copy protection method, a source document markup file is partitioned into a plurality of subsets of text, one or more graphical representations of at least some of the plurality of subsets are created and those subsets of text in the source document are processed to create a transformed document, location information is also generated, which identifies a position in the transformed documents that is equivalent to the position of the textual content which corresponds to the graphical representation in the source document. The transformed document, graphical representations, and location information may then be transmitted over a network to a client device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a user of a first portable digital computing device creates an annotation associated with a particular reading location within a reference document. The annotation and the reading location are shared with a second portable digital computing device storing a copy of the reference document. Using the shared information, the second device displays the reference document with the annotation shown at the reading location.

Abstract: A system and method of social interaction includes receiving interaction information for an interaction created by a first user of an electronic content work, the interaction information comprising an identification number of a portion of the electronic content work associated with the interaction. A determination is made of when version information indicating a newer version of content has been accessed from the second archive, and new content associated with the newer version is provided to the user device.
