  • Patent number: 10829995
Abstract: A downhole tool and method for use, in which the tool includes a housing defining a first bore axially therethrough, and a valve shaft disposed in the first bore of the housing. The valve shaft defines a second bore extending axially therein and one or more openings extending radially from the second bore, the valve shaft being rotatable relative to the housing. The tool also includes a valve sleeve disposed in the housing and defining one or more openings extending radially therethrough. The valve shaft is rotatable relative to the valve sleeve, such that the one or more openings of the valve sleeve are periodically aligned and misaligned with the one or more openings of the valve sleeve as the valve shaft rotates.

  • Patent number: 10801291
Abstract: A tubing hanger system for suspending a tubing string within a wellbore is provided. The system is designed to place the tubing string in tension. The tubing hanger system comprises a tubing hanger and a tubing anchor. Both the tubing hanger and the tubing anchor are designed to reside in series with the production tubing. The tubing hanger is threadedly connected to the tubing string at the top of the wellbore. The tubing anchor is also threadedly connected to the tubing string but is configured to be set within a string of casing downhole. Beneficially, the tubing hanger and the tubing anchor is each uniquely configured to be set through a rotation of the tubing string that is less than one full rotation. This enables use of a stainless steel chemical injection line extending from the tubing hanger to the tubing anchor. A method for hanging a string of production tubing in a wellbore, in tension, is also provided herein.

  • Patent number: 10753171
Abstract: A downhole tool includes a sealing element configured to expand radially outwards to form a seal with a surrounding tubular, a cone defining a tapered surface, and a slips assembly comprising a plurality of slips. The slips assembly is receivable at least partially around the cone, such that moving the cone in an axial direction with respect to the slips assembly causes the plurality of slips to separate circumferentially apart. The tool also includes a backup member positionable at least partially around the tapered surface of the cone and positioned adjacent to the slips assembly. The backup member is configured to break as the cone is moved toward the plurality of slips, to prevent the sealing element from extruding between circumferentially-adjacent slips of the plurality of slips.

  • Patent number: 10472922
Abstract: A plug assembly, an anchor tool for a plug, and methods for deploying a plug in a wellbore, of which the anchor tool includes a body, engaging members coupled with the body and configured to expand outward from the body, and a sliding sleeve positioned at least partially around the body. When the sliding sleeve is in a first position, the sliding sleeve covers the engaging members and restrains the engaging members from expanding, and when the sliding sleeve is in a second position, the sliding sleeve uncovers the engaging members and permits the engaging members to expand. The anchor tool also includes a friction-inducing member positioned around the body, and a shearable member coupled with the friction-inducing member and the body. The shearable member restrains the friction-inducing member, causing the friction-inducing member to maintain the sliding sleeve in the first position, until the shearable member is sheared.

Abstract: A downhole tool and a tool assembly, of which the downhole tool includes an expandable sleeve defining a bore extending axially therethrough, a first swage positioned at least partially within the bore and including a valve seat configured to receive an obstructing member, such that the obstructing member and the first swage substantially prevent fluid communication through the bore when the obstructing member is seated in the valve seat, and a second swage positioned at least partially within the bore. The first and second swages are configured to move toward one another in the bore, such that the first and second swages deform end portions of the expandable sleeve radially outwards and into engagement with a surrounding tubular, and the expandable sleeve, in an expanded configuration in which the end portions engage the surrounding tubular, defines an unexpanded portion between the expanded end portions.

  • Patent number: 10337285
Abstract: A downhole tool and method, of which the downhole tool includes a first sub defining a port extending radially therethrough, a second sub spaced apart from the first sub, and a housing connected with the first and second subs. A valve element is disposed at least partially within the housing, and is movable from a closed position to an open position. In the closed position, the valve element blocks fluid communication between a bore and an opening in the housing. When the valve element is in the open position, fluid communication between the bore and the opening is permitted. An actuation chamber is defined between the first sub, the housing, and the valve element, and is in fluid communication with the bore via a flow path that includes the port. A flow restrictor in the flow path is configured to slow fluid flow from the bore to the actuation chamber.

  • Patent number: 10294734
Abstract: In one embodiment, a wear band comprises a rotating element having a bore receivable on a tubular, the bore comprising first and second bore portions slidably receiving first and second sleeve bearings. Outer surfaces of the sleeve bearings slidably engage the bore portions and the bores of the sleeve bearings slidably engage the tubular. A first and a second stop collars may be received on the tubular to together straddle the rotating element and sleeve bearings to longitudinally secure the rotating element in a position on the tubular. The tubular may be included within a tubular string run into a borehole or into the bore of an installed casing, such as in casing while drilling. The rotating element provides stand-off between a tubular and the wall of a bore, reduces frictional resistance to longitudinal sliding and also to rotation of the tubular string within the bore.
