Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for encoding and decoding an image by skip encoding. The image-encoding method by skip encoding, which performs intra-prediction, comprises: performing a filtering operation on the signal which is reconstructed prior to an encoding object signal in an encoding object image; using the filtered reconstructed signal to generate a prediction signal for the encoding object signal; setting the generated prediction signal as a reconstruction signal for the encoding object signal; and not encoding the residual signal which can be generated on the basis of the difference between the encoding object signal and the prediction signal, thereby performing skip encoding on the encoding object signal.

Abstract: Described embodiments provide a shape memory alloy (SMA) cartridge for use in providing controllable compression. The SMA cartridge includes first and second end caps, each of the first and second end caps being coupled to a passive material. One or more SMA coils extend between the first and second end caps. The SMA coils have a trained state and a deformed state, where the SMA coils are in the deformed state when a stimulus is provided thereto and the SMA coils are in the trained state when the stimulus is removed therefrom. The first end cap and the second end cap include a locking mechanism to automatically lock the first and second end caps in a fixed position relative to one another when the SMA coils are contracted.

Abstract: The present application relates, in some aspects, to screening methods to identify test compounds that stabilize or destabilize a protein of interest. The present application is based, in some aspects, on the development of a plasmid that can be used to efficiently monitor the stabilities of thousands of proteins after specific perturbations. The plasmid allows for the co-expression of two reporter proteins, each of which is placed under the control of an IRES. In this way both reporters are transcribed together (i.e. are encoded by the same mRNA) and both are translated using an IRES.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating cancer or inflammatory disease, containing an NDRG3 expression or activity inhibitor as an active ingredient. Furthermore, the present invention relates to an NDRG3 protein-specific antibody and a use thereof. Specifically, the antibody to the NDRG3 protein is prepared, and the antibody is used to verify that NDRG3 mediated by lactate generated from a hypoxia reaction promotes cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and cytokine expression through the lactate-NDRG3-c-Raf-ERK signaling pathway, and thus the antibody binding to the epitope of the NDRG3 or a fragment of the antibody can be favorably used in the research of cancer or inflammation occurrence mechanism, the development of novel genes involved in the mechanism, and the development of therapeutic agents and new pharmaceuticals.
