Abstract: The present invention provides compositions and methods for assessing the presence or absence, and optionally quantitating, the surface loading of a noble metal such as platinum on the surface of a substrate. The invention utilizes the decomposition rate of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) or other redox active molecule following exposure to the substrate surface to effectively establish a qualitative or quantitative correlation between the redox agent survival fraction and the presence or absence of noble metal (e.g., platinum), and further, for the quantitation of noble metal loading on the substrate surface. The invention provides advantages over the state of the art, and finds applicability in diverse industries. In some embodiments, the compositions and/or methods of the invention are used to assess the surface loading of noble metals on the internal surfaces of boiling water nuclear reactor plants (BWR) that have undergone prior noble metal application.

Abstract: Compositions that include nanoscale structured materials or precursors thereof (e.g., self: assembling peptides) are described. The compositions can include other substances (e.g., a vasoconstrictor). Also described are methods for using the compositions to promote hemostasis, to protect the skin or wounds from contamination, to decontaiminate a site upon removal of previously applied compositions that provided a protective coating, and to inhibit the movement of bodily substances other than blood. The compositions are also useful in isolating tissue, removing tissue, preserving tissue (for, e.g., subsequent transplantation or reattachment), and as bulking, stabilizing or hydrating agents. Medical devices that include the compositions (e.g., a stent or catheter), bandages or other wound dressings, sutures, and kits that include the compositions are also described.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a polymer-based large-area carbon nanomesh and a method for preparing the same. More particularly, the present disclosure provides a method for preparing a carbon nanomesh such as graphene nanomesh, including: preparing a polymer nanofilm by coating a solution of a block copolymer or a polymer mixture thereof on a substrate; stabilizing the polymer nanofilm by annealing such that the polymer nanofilm is phase-separated, a hole-forming polymer is removed and, at the same time, a nanomesh-forming polymer is cyclized and forms a stabilized polymer nanomesh; and carbonizing the stabilized polymer nanomesh by annealing at high temperature to prepare a carbon nanomesh. Using the phase separation and cyclization, a large-area carbon nanomesh with superior activity can be prepared simply with high reproducibility in large scale.
