Abstract: An apparatus and method for automatically controlling the power saving function of a computer and a monitor are disclosed herein. The apparatus for automatically controlling the power saving function of a computer and a monitor includes a distance calculation unit, an entry or exit determination unit, and a power saving control unit. The distance calculation unit calculates the distances between two or more beacon devices and a terminal of a user. The entry or exit determination unit determines the entry or exit state of the user by checking a change in a first distance between the terminal and a gate beacon device. The power saving control unit controls the power saving function of the computer and monitor of the user by considering one or more of the entry or exit state and a second distance between the terminal and a user beacon device closest to the computer of the user.

Abstract: A network analysis tool receives network flow information and uses deep learning—machine learning that models high-level abstractions in the network flow information—to identify dependencies between network assets. Based on the identified dependencies, the network analysis tool can discover functional relationships between network assets. For example, a network analysis tool receives network flow information, identifies dependencies between multiple network assets based on evaluation of the network flow information, and outputs results of the identification of the dependencies. When evaluating the network flow information, the network analysis tool can pre-process the network flow information to produce input vectors, use deep learning to extract patterns in the input vectors, and then determine dependencies based on the extracted patterns. The network analysis tool can repeat this process so as to update an assessment of the dependencies between network assets on a near real-time basis.

Abstract: Filtration systems in which the ratios of minor components in mixtures can be balanced, and associated methods, are generally described. Certain embodiments are related to methods in which a portion of a retentate stream produced by filtering an initial liquid feed during a first filtration step is mixed with the permeate produced by filtering the permeate from the first filtration step. In some cases, the amount of the first retentate that is mixed with the second permeate is selected such that the ratios of the minor components within the final retentate and permeate streams produced by the filtration system are similar to the ratio of the minor components within the initial liquid. By maintaining similar ratios of minor components, according to certain embodiments, the flavor profile of the initial liquid mixture can be substantially maintained in the concentrated and diluted streams produced by the filtration system.

Abstract: A radiant, non-catalytic recuperative reformer has a flue gas flow path for conducting hot exhaust gas from a thermal process and a reforming mixture flow path for conducting a reforming mixture. At least a portion of the reforming mixture flow path is positioned adjacent to the flue gas flow path to permit heat transfer from the hot exhaust gas to the reforming mixture. The reforming mixture flow path contains substantially no material commonly used as a catalyst for reforming hydrocarbon fuel (e.g., nickel oxide, platinum group elements or rhenium), but instead the reforming mixture is reformed into a higher calorific fuel via reactions due to the heat transfer and residence time. In a preferred embodiment, a portion of the reforming mixture flow path is positioned outside of flue gas flow path for a relatively large residence time.

Abstract: A new class of poly(beta-amino alcohols) (PBAAs) has been prepared using combinatorial polymerization. The inventive PBAAs may be used in biotechnology and biomedical applications as coatings (such as coatings of films or multilayer films for medical devices or implants), additives, materials, excipients, non-biofouling agents, micropatterning agents, and cellular encapsulation agents. When used as surface coatings, these PBAAs elicited different levels of inflammation, both in vitro and in vivo, depending on their chemical structures. The large chemical diversity of this class of materials allowed us to identify polymer coatings that inhibit macrophage activation in vitro. Furthermore, these coatings reduce the recruitment of inflammatory cells, and reduce fibrosis, following the subcutaneous implantation of carboxylated polystyrene microparticles. These polymers may be used to form polyelectrolyte complex capsules for cell encapsulation.

Abstract: A graphene transfer method using water vapor-assisted determination of CVD-grown graphene film on the Cu foil. By using the polymer film as a supporting layer, we found that graphene can be directly detached from the Cu foil as a consequence of water intercalated at the graphene-Cu interface(s), by a ‘dry transfer’ method. The delaminated graphene films are continuous over large area. This nondestructive method also worked for the transfer of graphene grown on a Cu single crystal without sacrificing the expensive crystal, thus affording the possibility of producing high-quality graphene and reusing the substrate. The Cu foil and single crystal can both be repeatedly used for many times, which may reduce the cost of graphene synthesis and is environmentally more benign. Our method affords the advantages of high efficiency, likely industrial scalability, minimal use of chemicals, and the reusability of the Cu foil in multiple growth and delamination cycles.
