Abstract: Disclosed are a hydrogen sulfide and carbonyl sulfide removal apparatus using microwave plasma and a method thereof. More particularly, in the apparatus and the method, poisonous gases, such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbonyl sulfide (COS), contained in natural gas, refined crude oil refinery gas, gasified synthetic gas, etc. are removed by using microwave plasma, and elemental sulfur and hydrogen are generated from the gases.

Abstract: An accelerometer, comprises, a measurement mass, a top cap silicon wafer and a bottom cap silicon wafer, which both are coupled with the said measurement mass; the measurement mass comprises a support frame, a mass, and a plurality of resilient beams; the mass and the resilient beams are located within the support frame; the mass and the support frame are connected by several sets of the resilient beams, and each set comprises two resilient folding beams; the resilient folding beams are symmetrically provided with respect to the midline of the mass; a connection beam is provided in between each set of the resilient folding beams to connect the resilient folding beams together. Silicon wafers with electrodes are bonded on the top and bottom surfaces of the measurement mass; and forms a capacitor with the measurement mass. The accelerometer in the present invention has a large mode isolation ratio, and it is symmetrical in high order vibrational modes , which further decreases the noise of the MEMS chip.

Abstract: A spinning cell device is described for fast and convenient standardization and analysis of constituents and isotopes in solid samples by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma (LA-ICP) spectrometry. The method and apparatus for performing he method require the sample under test and a standard to be spun during ablation allowing the quasi-simultaneous ablation of both materials. The aerosols resulting from the ablation of sample and standard are mixed in the ablation cell allowing quantification of the ablated metals by the method of standard addition or isotope dilution. The relative proportion of standard verses sample ablated can be changed by altering the trajectory of the laser beam. The ablated aerosol is swept into an inductively coupled plasma by a carrier gas and analyzed by mass spectrometry.

Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to a magnetic field feedback based spintronic microwave oscillator driven by DC current. The microwave oscillator works based on a magnetic tunnel junction structure connected to a feedback waveguide. Any fluctuation in the magnetization direction of free magnetization layer of MTJ drives an oscillating current through the feedback waveguide which in turn exerts an oscillating magnetic field on the free layer and amplifies the magnetization fluctuations. If the DC current passing through the MTJ is more than a critical value, continuous processing states of the magnetization are possible. The critical current is independent of the thickness and magnetization of the free layer. A MTJ can be driven into spontaneous oscillations with DC current and magnetic field feedback circuit and can act as a spintronic microwave oscillator.

Abstract: Described are soluble gp130 polypeptide monomers and dimers, wherein, in a preferred embodiment, at least one of the three amino acid residues Thr102 GIn113 or ASn114 of the N-terminal Ig-like domain of gp130 is mutated to Tyr102, Phe113 or Leu114, respectively. These mutations, alone or in combination, specifically enhance binding of gp130 to its ligand complex of interleukin-6 and soluble interleukin-6 receptor, thus increasing the biological activity of the gp130 muteins. In a particularly preferred embodiment, all three mutations are combined in the triple mutein Thr102Tyr/Gln113Phe/Asn114Leu (T102Y/Q113F/N114L). Moreover, a pharmaceutical composition containing said monomers or dimers and various medical uses are described.

Abstract: An engineered process of manufacturing a carbon capturing agent calcium aluminum carbonate Ca—Al—CO3 includes steps of mixing, solid-liquid separation, drying and extrusion, crushing and conveying, and calcined molding. The acid bath of Ca+2 and Al+3 is mixed with the alkaline bath of Na2CO3 and NaOH while stirring to form slurry which are then subject to solid-liquid separation to obtain a filtrated cake. The filtrated cake is place into a drying and extrusion device to obtain granular material. The granular material is placed in a conveying and crushing equipment to obtain a powder material. The powder material is calcined at furnace for forming a Ca—Al—CO3, which is nano-layered composite with high porosity. Thereby, the preparation of a solid sorbent can be scale up under systematically controlled with yield of at least batches of kilograms used in medium-high temperature (400˜800° C.) CO2 capture.

Abstract: An electrical mobility-controlled material includes a solid state host material having a controllable Fermi energy level and electrical charge carriers with a charge carrier mobility. At least one Fermi level energy at which a peak in charge carrier mobility is to occur is prespecified for the host material. A plurality of particles are distributed in the host material, with at least one particle disposed with an effective mass and a radius that minimize scattering of the electrical charge carriers for the at least one prespecified Fermi level energy of peak charge carrier mobility. The minimized scattering of electrical charge carriers produces the peak charge carrier mobility only at the at least one prespecified Fermi level energy, set by the particle effective mass and radius, the charge carrier mobility being less than the peak charge carrier mobility at Fermi level energies other than the at least one prespecified Fermi level energy.

Abstract: A method and system for controlling recirculated exhaust gas composition and quantity provided to an internal combustion engine, which has one or more separately controllable combustion cylinders, a main exhaust line and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) loop. A first exhaust valve is connected to the main exhaust line, and a second exhaust valve is connected to the EGR loop. The operation of the exhaust valves is controlled such that exhaust does not flow through both exhaust valves at the same time. Control of the exhaust valves is coordinated with the main fueling event used to control the exhaust composition exiting each valve for every cylinder on every cycle. During each engine cycle, a post-combustion fuel injection event is also used to add fuel to the exhaust in-cylinder, which flows only through the second (EGR) exhaust valve.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of reducing uncertainty, which exactly finds the hydraulic conductivity and the specific storativity of a rock sample in pressure pulse-decay measurement. Axial and confining pressures are applied to the rock sample, and upstream and downstream reservoirs are connected to the rock sample. Coordinate values representing minimum values of a contour of a graph of an objective function, in which the hydraulic conductivity and the specific storativity obtained through the pressure pulse-decay measurement scheme to apply pressure pulses from the outside are expressed in horizontal and vertical axes are found from the graph. The coordinate values are set as the hydraulic conductivity and the specific storativity of the rock sample. Graphs of objective functions obtained by repeating the pressure pulse-decay measurement while changing boundary conditions are shown in overlapped, thereby reducing the uncertainty of the hydraulic conductivity and the specific storativity of the rock sample.
