Abstract: The present invention is directed to processes for recovering ethanol obtained from the hydrogenation of acetic acid. Acetic acid is hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst in a hydrogenation reactor to form a crude ethanol product. The crude ethanol product is separated in one or more columns to recover ethanol. In some embodiments, less than 10 wt. % ethanol is recycled to the hydrogenation reactor.

Abstract: Utilities that increase the volume of media elements that can be simultaneously loaded and/or unloaded into or from a storage library, facilitate mounting of media element magazines into a storage library, and limit access to an interior of a storage library by users during operation of robotics assemblies of the storage library. One disclosed utility includes a cartridge access port for use with a storage library that has a storage container that is pivotable (e.g., swingable) between at least first and second positions. In the first position, the storage container is adjacent an opening in the housing of the library for loading and unloading of media elements by a user into or from the container via the opening. After the storage container has swung into the second position, the storage container is spaced from the opening and faces the interior of the library for access by a robotics assembly.

Abstract: Recovery of ethanol from a crude ethanol product obtained from the hydrogenation of acetic acid using an extractive distillation column. A diluted acid stream, comprising less than 30 wt. % acetic acid, is used as the extractive agent and is fed at a point above the crude feed stream. The column yields a residue that comprises ethanol, acetic acid, and water. The diluted acid stream may be separated from the residue and returned to the extractive distillation column.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are processes for alcohol production by reducing an esterification product, such as ethyl acetate. The processes comprise esterifying acetic acid and an alcohol such as ethanol to produce an esterification product. The esterification product may be recovered using an extractive separation. The esterification product is reduced with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst to obtain a crude reaction mixture comprising the alcohol, in particular ethanol, which may be separated from the crude reaction mixture.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to systems that allow sending and receiving of interrupts between processing elements. In various embodiments, a system includes an interrupt processing unit that in turn includes various indicators corresponding to processing elements. In some embodiments, the interrupt processing unit may be configured to receive an interrupt and determine whether a first processing element associated with the interrupt is available to receive interrupts. The system may initiate a corrective action if the first processing element is not available to receive interrupts. In some embodiments, the corrective action may include redirecting the interrupt to a second processing element. In some embodiments, the interrupt processing unit may include a dropped interrupt management register to store information corresponding to the second processing element.

Abstract: Implementations of the present disclosure involve methods and systems for performing an electromigration analysis of a microelectronic circuit design. In particular, the implementations describe provide for performing a hierarchical extraction of the design, determining an approximate positioning and connection of two or more components of the design and performing electromigration analysis on the design. In one implementation, an intelligent connectivity may be applied to the hierarchical extraction to achieve an approximate location of the connection points between the blocks of the design. In one example, the intelligent connectivity technique may utilize a coordinate grid related to the design to approximate the connection points between the blocks of the design.
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system for multi-instance redo apply is provided for standby databases. A multi-instance primary database generates a plurality of redo records, which are received and applied by a physical standby running a multi-instance standby database. Each standby instance runs a set of processes that utilize non-blocking, single-task threads for high parallelism. At each standby instance for the multi-instance redo, the plurality of redo records are merged into a stream from one or more redo strands in logical time order, distributed to standby instances according to determined apply slave processes using an intelligent workload distribution function, remerged after receiving updates from remote instances, and applied in logical time order by the apply slave processes. Redo apply progress is tracked at each instance locally and also globally, allowing a consistent query logical time to be maintained and published to service database read query requests concurrently with the redo apply.
Abstract: A lookup circuit evaluates hash functions that map keys to addresses in lookup tables. The circuit may include multiple hash function sub-circuits, each of which applies a respective hash function to an input key value, producing a hash value. Each hash function sub-circuit (which may include a programmable hash table) may multiply bit vectors representing key values by a bit matrix and add a constant bit vector to the results. Each hash value may be used to access a location in a lookup table in memory to obtain its contents (e.g., a key and associated data). The circuit may include a selection sub-circuit that selects the data of one of the identified locations as an output of the lookup circuit (e.g., one whose key matches the input key). The circuit may modify obtained data prior to its selection and may output a signal indicating the validity of input keys.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes an interface circuit configured to couple to a bus and one or more sideband signals. The sideband signals may be used to communicate error information such as parity information for a bus that does not otherwise have this capability. In some embodiments, parity information may be driven on the bus during a portion of a bus transaction corresponding to unused address bits.

Abstract: A lookup circuit evaluates hash functions that map keys to addresses in lookup tables. The circuit may include multiple hash function sub-circuits, each of which applies a respective hash function to an input key value, producing a hash value. Each hash function sub-circuit may multiply bit vectors representing key values by a sparse bit matrix and may add a constant bit vector to the results. The hash function sub-circuits may be constructed using odd-parity circuits that accept as inputs subsets of the bits of the bit vectors representing the key values. The sparse bit matrices may be chosen or generated so that there are at least twice as many 0-bits per row as 1-bits or there is an upper bound on the number of 1-bits per row. Using sparse bit matrices in the hash function sub-circuits may allow the lookup circuit to perform lookup operations with very low latency.

Abstract: A virtual directory server (VDS) provided according to an aspect of the present disclosure maintains attribute data identifying a corresponding set of stored attributes associated with each data source, with each data source storing values for associated set of stored attributes. Upon receiving a first request based on query attributes, the VDS identifies a set of data sources based on the stored attribute data, with each data source storing values for at least one of the query attributes. The VDS then forms constituent requests, with each constituent request having a corresponding pruned filter suitable for the respective data source. The constituent requests are sent to the respective data sources. The VDS forms a final response from the constituent responses received from the corresponding data sources by joining the constituent entries, and sends the final response to a client system from which the first request is received.

Abstract: A lookup circuit evaluates hash functions that map keys to addresses in lookup tables. The circuit includes multiple hash function sub-circuits, each of which applies a respective hash function to an input key, producing a hash value. Candidate pairs of hash functions to be implemented by the hash function sub-circuits may be generated and tested for suitability in hashing a particular collection of keys. The suitability testing may include computing hash value bit vectors by applying each hash function in a candidate pair to a given key, and determining (using a modified union-find type operation that organizes objects in each set as a directed graph whose root points to itself) whether the resulting hash value bit vectors belong to the same set. The union-find type operation may include a limited distance-from-root test, path compression, or exception handling for special cases, but not a rank test.
Abstract: A rotary actuator for positioning a recording head in a data storage mechanism and that includes first and second cylindrical subassemblies separated by an air gap. One of the subassemblies includes a magnetically conductive core with an electrically conductive coil wrapped thereover to enable first and second current flow directions in the circuit. The other of the subassemblies includes a magnetically conductive core and at least one magnet secured thereto. Transmission of an electric current through the electrically conductive coil induces rotation of one of the subassemblies relative to the other of the subassemblies to rotate the recording head about an axis that is perpendicular to recording media on the recording head. The disclosed rotary actuator facilitates quick and accurate recording head position changes due to low inertia of the rotating subassembly as well as reduced inductance and symmetrical mass distribution of the actuator.
