Abstract: A system that estimates elasticity and inventory effect for a product pricing or forecasting system receives a sales condition relationship for an item at a store, the relationship comprising an elasticity parameter, an inventory effect parameter and a sales constant. The system receives a demand model for sales of the item in terms of the elasticity parameter and the inventory effect parameter and a base demand for the item selling at the store. The system estimates the sales constant, the estimating comprising generating a theta parameter by taking logarithms of the sales condition relationship. The system uses linear regression to estimate a logarithm of the sales constant and a value of the theta parameter. The system determines a relationship between the elasticity parameter and the inventory effect parameter based on the value of the theta parameter.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for using an intermediate cache to provide some of the items involved in a scan operation, while other items involved in the scan operation are provided from primary storage. Techniques are also provided for determining whether to service an I/O request for an item with a copy of the item that resides in the intermediate cache based on factors such as a) an identity of the user for whom the I/O request was submitted, b) an identity of a service that submitted the I/O request, c) an indication of a consumer group to which the I/O request maps, or d) whether the intermediate cache is overloaded. Techniques are also provided for determining whether to store items in an intermediate cache in response to the items being retrieved, based on logical characteristics associated with the requests that retrieve the items.

Abstract: Methods and system for providing synchronization of a multi-threaded application includes analyzing a source file of the application to identify one or more synchronization annotations contained therein, wherein the synchronization annotations are defined using declarative statements. One or more synchronization annotation processors are identified and invoked for processing the one or more synchronization annotations identified in the source file so as to generate code files. The source file is compiled to generate one or more class files by compiling the procedural code within the source file to generate one or more class files, and compiling the code files to generate the one or more class files. The class files associated with the code files are used by the multiple threads during execution of the application to arbitrate access to methods and data manipulated by classes within the class files associated with the procedural code.

Abstract: A retrievable flow module (RFM) apparatus is provided. In one embodiment, the RFM apparatus is a standalone assembly configured to mate with a subsea device, such as a production tree. The RFM apparatus may include a frame within which various flow control and monitoring elements are disposed. The frame may have an alignment system that enables the RFM apparatus to horizontally mate with the tree. Because the RFM apparatus provides for the collocation of flow control and monitoring elements within a standalone assembly, deployment or retrieval of the flow control and monitoring elements may be accomplished in single operation. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: A system that determines a pricing markdown schedule for a retail item at a store receives demand parameters of the retail item at the store and one or more constraints, and expresses a price curve and inventory curve as linear combinations of price and inventory coefficients for orthogonal polynomials. The system determines revenue in terms of values of the price and inventory coefficients, determines an initial guess of the price and inventory coefficients, and determines a gradient of the revenue. The system then maximizes the revenue based on the revenue, the initial guesses, the gradient, and the constraints, where the constraints are in terms of the price and inventory coefficients. Based on the maximized revenue, the system then generates the price markdown schedule.

Abstract: An aspect of the present invention simplifies signing-off from multiple domains. In an embodiment, upon receiving a sign-off request from a user signed-on to multiple domains, the user is signed-off from at least two, but not all, the signed-on domains in due course. According to another aspect, the domains of an enterprise are organized as groups of domains. In response to receiving a request for signing-off from a first domain, the user is signed-off from each of a group of domains corresponding to the first domain (in addition to the first domain). In an embodiment, an administrator of the enterprise specifies a master domain for each group, to facilitate identification of the group to be signed-off. According to another aspect, a user selects a set of domains to sign-off from. The user is signed-off from only the selected set of domains.

Abstract: A system and method for facilitating selectively displaying data. An example method includes organizing data into one or more data objects represented by one or more graphical display elements; displaying the one or more graphical display elements in a band of plural display elements; and providing a first user option to simultaneously adjust spacing between each of the plural display elements in the band. In a specific embodiment, the method further includes providing user options to convert the band of display elements into a carousel view or to a filmstrip view by adjusting the spacing, and to switch between display of graphical display elements in a grid and display of graphical display elements in the band.

Abstract: A three port vortex container to collect liquid samples from the production flow line of an oil reservoir. The device includes a three port vortex container used to separate the gas and liquid phases from a multiphase production flow. Multiphase flow is received by the container, inducing a vortex where the gas and liquid phases are separated due to their varying densities. The device further includes a sampling system where a pressurizing device is used to create a pressure differential across the sampling circuit, directing a fluid flow into the three vortex container. The liquid flow is then directed into a sampling container.

Abstract: A configurable search engine is provided in which, in an embodiment, by running the search engine an administrator can configure the search options available to a user by selecting from a choice of options without writing code. The user may be able to further configure the search options. In an embodiment, the search engine combines searches of multiple tables in a manner that appears seamless to the user.

Abstract: A system and method for transferring data between different types of systems, and in particular uses log-based replication to transfer data between different types of systems. In accordance with an embodiment, the system can be used to perform a one-time or initial copy of the MySQL data from a source database system to a target database system, and/or to replicate the on-going transactions captured from a MySQL database's binary log into one or additional non-MySQL database(s) on a continuous basis, such that the two systems are synchronized for transactions of interest. In accordance with an embodiment, full or partial data changes can be extracted from the MySQL binary log, optionally transformed, skipped or augmented, output or written to a file, and then applied at any of one or more target systems (e.g. another MySQL database, or a non-MySQL database), thereby synchronizing the source and target systems.

Abstract: An inducer with an exterior housing and/or interior hub that incorporates grooves or vanes that are helical in nature and in counter rotation with respect to the rotation of the blades of the inducer, which grooves or vanes capture fluid rotating with the inducer blades and use that rotation to guide the fluid up along paths formed by the grooves or vanes and into an impeller, pump or other device.

Abstract: Implementations of the present disclosure involve a semi-dynamic flip-flop circuit incorporating a partially floating evaluation window that provides a faster data to output delay, a PMOS keeper device may be placed in series with an existing keeper circuit of the semi-dynamic flip-flop circuit. The gate of the PMOS series keeper device may be connected to a shut-off signal of the semi-dynamic flip-flop circuit that provides a three gate delay, self-timed positive pulse to control the keeper circuit. The PMOS series keeper device effectively turns off the keeper circuit when the clock signal rises but turns in back on after a three gate delay to sustain the precharge state of the dynamic node. The effective turning on and off of the keeper circuit portion may decrease the data to output delay of the flip-flop, resulting in higher performing microprocessors.

Abstract: A multilayer image transfer sheet for non-thermally transferring an image to a receiving object includes, in the following order with respect to each other, a backing sheet; a water-releasable sacrificial layer disposed on the backing sheet; an ink-absorbing layer disposed over the water-releasable sacrificial layer; a printed image layer formed on the ink-absorbing layer; and an adhesive layer disposed over the printed image layer and configured and arranged for permanent attachment of the printed image layer to a receiving object. The printed image layer includes ink printed to form at least one image.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing shared resources in a clustered database management system is provided. In an embodiment, multiple master nodes exist in a database management system. A master node receives a lock request from a second node. The lock request is a request for a lock on a shared resource. The master node grants the lock request to the second node. While the second node holds the lock, the second node causes the master node to modify the shared resource.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide systems and methods for using multi-dimensional modeling techniques to handle analytical metrics and assignment previews, for example, in the context of territory proposals and what-if analysis. In some embodiments, a set of proposed territory definitions is generated in a territory management system to represent a hierarchical set of proposed territories each as a set of cells of a hypercube. A modification is received to the proposed territory definitions, and the proposed territory definitions are updated according to the modification. A query is received (e.g., at the territory management system via a user interface) and is executed against the proposed territory definitions in the territory management system to generate a query result. The query result is output to provide analytical metrics and/or assignment preview functionality.

Abstract: A system and method can manage software services in virtualized and non-virtualized environments. A plurality of data collection components in a computing environment can include a plurality of virtual machines running on the one or more microprocessors, wherein the plurality of virtual machines are adapted to be deployed with services and applications. Each data collection component operates to use one or more data structures to communicate with a data consumer, wherein each data structure describes metrics to be collected by said data collection component and is capable of containing collected metric values.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus involve booting a computing device from a flash device. The flash device has memory partitions, including a read-only and a read/write partition. The read-only includes an operating system for use by the computing device and defines an initial system state. The read/write is configured to store a delta from the initial system state. Upon booting the computing device subsequent to an initial boot, the delta and the initial system state together define the whole system state. In other features, a write engine from the read-only partition tracks changes to the initial system state and writes some, but not all of the changes back to the read/write partition thereby minimizing a number of writes to the flash memory. In this manner, the speed of the flash memory can be used to quickly boot/reboot a computing device, while avoiding the wear limits associated with writing to flash devices.

Abstract: Various embodiments herein include utilities that facilitate the substantially flat and aligned mounting of optical tape segments on testing drums to increase testing accuracy of the tape segments. In this regard, a drum for testing optical tape media is disclosed having a substantially planar portion onto which first and second ends of an optical tape segment may be mounted to thereby secure the entire tape segment around an outer testing surface of the drum. Also disclosed is fixture that may be used to precisely mount and secure the tape segment over the outer mounting surface of a drum in a manner that reduces axial run-out and wrinkling of the optical tape.
