Abstract: Heuristics may be built into retail and business applications that recognize certain conditions and provide “expert-level” suggestions for the purchaser to consider. The inputs from the purchaser may include a selection of an item for potential purchasing. After selecting an item, heuristics may be used to determine that the item is also available as part of a set, which may include additional items that were meant to be used together, often at a discount. Also, heuristics may determine that a selected item has an expiration date, and make a recommendation for a same or functionally comparable product when near the expected end of the product's lifetime. Additionally, heuristics may be used to determine that a customer belongs to a certain customer type based on a selected item, and that customers of that type may be associated with additional items that may be offered to the consumer.

Abstract: Various arrangements for identifying and selected a data value of a dataset presented on a graph are described. The graph may be presented, wherein the graph illustrates a plurality of datasets and a legend that identifies each of the plurality of datasets. A selection of the dataset may be received via the legend of the graph. An input of a point on the graph may be received. A value of a data point from the dataset that corresponds to the input of the point on the graph may be presented.

Abstract: Techniques for credential auditing are provided. Histories for credentials are evaluated against a principal credential policy for a user and an enterprise credential policy for an enterprise as a whole. An audit trail is produced within a report for the histories. The report indicates whether compliance with the principal and enterprise credential policies occurred and if not at least one reason is provided as to why compliance was not met within the histories.

Abstract: A method for communication includes, during a call conducted among two or more subscribers in a circuit-switched network, which operates in accordance with a first communication protocol that manages calls among the subscribers by exchanging discrete events among elements of the circuit-switched network, receiving from the circuit-switched network an incomplete subset of the events related to the call. Based on the incomplete subset of the events, at least one emulated communication session is generated in a packet-switched network that operates in accordance with a second communication protocol. Using the emulated session, a service platform in the packet-switched network is caused to provide a communication service to the call conducted in the circuit-switched network.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that comprise a security policy verification system for verifying security policies. The system parses programming language code that implements security policies, and identifies annotations in the programming language code. The system then matches the annotations to the security policies to which the annotations correspond. The system then displays a natural language description of the security policy in a user interface.

Abstract: A universal power supply system is used for at least one electric consumer. The supply system comprises at least one AC source and a cable connection connecting said AC source to said electric consumer. The AC source has associated therewith an AC/DC converter for converting the AC voltage into DC voltage. The DC voltage generated in this way is adapted to be transmitted to the electric consumer via the cable connection. To improve such a universal power supply in such a way that it is possible to provide a high and stable voltage without any additional components (such as additional heat dissipation components), the AC/DC converter comprises a plurality of AC/DC converter components which, on the input side thereof, are connected in parallel with the AC source and which, on the output side thereof are connected serially to the electric consumer.

The stylus comprises a jog ball, a signal emitting circuit for emitting electromagnetic waves, an resonant circuit for determining the frequencies of the emitting electromagnetic waves, and a button and ball circuit that comprises a pair of sensing units respectively arranged at up and down side of the jog ball for tracking the rolling of the jog ball.

The system also includes an antenna tuner electrically coupled to the RFID antenna, and configured to manually tune the RFID antenna to match an inductance of the RFID tag.

Abstract: A system and method for use with garbage collected systems and languages, for enabling an allocated heap memory to be updated (e.g., increased or decreased) at runtime, subject to sufficient availability of physical memory. In accordance with an embodiment, a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is associated with a management console, which allows a systems administrator to monitor current heap utilization at runtime. The heap is visualized as a contiguous chunk of memory with one or more extension points, e.g., by use of a trailing pointer to a null list. If later, at runtime, the heap size needs to be incremented then the trailing pointer can be set to a new chunk of memory with a size of (new value?old value), so that the cumulative new size is made equal to a new value specified on the console. The new chunk of memory can again end with a trailing pointer, to allow for further extension.

Abstract: An optical tape drive system includes n total optical pickup units and a controller. The controller writes readable data in logical wraps each having less than n physical tracks to the optical tape via at least some of the optical pickup units such that for each of the logical wraps that contain readable data, all physical tracks within the logical wrap contain readable data.

Abstract: A particular stacking configuration may be used for installing or orienting a plurality of hydrocyclones in a vessel in order to reduce vessel size and make process systems more compact at higher flow rates. Vessel size and footprint reduction may be achieved by stacking one or more hydrocyclone packs, modules or groups one above the other in a vertically oriented vessel.

Abstract: Reliable storage for database management systems (DBMS) running on memory devices such as NAND type flash memory utilizes minimum I/O overhead and provides maximum data durability. A virtual page map is utilized between the flash memory and a page access component to record changes to the DBMS pages and prevent overwriting or data loss. There is no need for journaling and logging, and performance is increased by reducing the write and erase counts on the flash memory. The logical page numbers of the DBMS are mapped to physical page numbers in the page map, such that the virtual page map allocates an available page from the physical pages when changes to a page occur, and the updated information is stored in the allocated page. The allocated page number is mapped to the logical page number of the original page, thus maintaining a modified page representation while preventing physical in-place updates.

Abstract: Embodiments presented herein provide systems and methods for creating child objects for a database. A child object wizard provides one or more user interfaces that allow a database administrator to select or create a child object. One or more other interfaces allow the administrator generate object attributes. The user interfaces allow the database administrator to follow a simpler process to create a child object. The process saves time and money for the database administrator.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium are provided for storing data such that the data automatically changes to remain current over time. In one embodiment, a database server stores metadata in association with data that is stored in a database. The metadata specifies a time and a manner in which the data should change. On, near, or after the specified time, the database server reads the metadata to determine that the specified time is satisfied. In response to determining that the specified time has been satisfied, the database server changes the data stored in the database in the specified manner.

Abstract: Approaches for enabling a computerized entity to recognize characters in an electronic document. In a persistent data store, character identification data is stored. Character identification data is data that, for one or more characters of one or more fonts, associates (a) glyph data for a character with (b) code point data for the character, where the glyph data describes how to render the character on or to an output device, and the code point data identifies, to the computerized entity, the identity of the character. Upon determining that an embedded font document, such as a PDF document, does not include a set of code point data for a particular character, the character identification data is consulted to determine the identity of the particular character. In this way, a machine can recognize characters in the embedded font document and perform functions such as indexing or searching on the embedded font document.

Abstract: An aspect of the present invention detects usage, by an application process, of a utility provided by a first version of an operating system, and determines whether a later version of the operating system is incompatible with identical usage of the detected utility. If the usage is determined to be incompatible, the corresponding information on the incompatibility is included in a report. According to another aspect, the determination of compatibility is performed by maintaining data (e.g., in a database) indicating incompatibility information related to a set of utilities, which are incompatible with the second version. The data is examined to determine incompatibility. The features are disclosed as being applied with respect to dynamically linked libraries, dynamically loaded libraries, functions, fonts, etc.

Abstract: A flexible and extensible architecture allows for secure searching across an enterprise. Such an architecture can provide a simple Internet-like search experience to users searching secure content inside (and outside) the enterprise. The architecture allows for the crawling and searching of a variety or of sources across an enterprise, regardless of whether any of these sources conform to a conventional user role model. The architecture further allows for security attributes to be submitted at query time, for example, in order to provide real-time secure access to enterprise resources. The user query also can be transformed to provide for dynamic querying that provides for a more current result list than can be obtained for static queries.

Abstract: One embodiment is directed generally to a computer system, and in particular to a system for providing automatic estimating of demand parameters. According to certain embodiments, a computer readable medium has instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to determine a reliable demand parameter for a level within a sales hierarchy. The instructions include estimating a demand parameter for a first pool. The estimating is based on blending and comparing with respect to an enlarged pool comprising the first pool as a subset of the enlarged pool to obtain an estimated demand parameter.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with data sources adapted for parallel inference on triples associated with a semantic model are described. One example method includes creating a source table that is partitioned on triple predicate and stores triples for entailment. The source table may store compact triple identifiers that have been mapped to triple identifiers from the semantic model.
