  • Patent number: 11701605
Abstract: An arrangement and method for determining the service interval of a fluid filter includes a filter and a pump driven by an electric motor. A control module calculates pressure drop across the filter by way of voltage, current, and/or PWM provided to the electric motor. The control module monitors the rate of change of the pressure drop across the filter over the life of the filter. The volume flow rate of the fluid may or may not be held constant. If an abrupt or sudden characteristic change in the pressure drop across the filter occurs, or if the pressure drop across the filter exceeds a threshold amount, the arrangement and method provides a notification that either the filter needs to be replaced or serviced, or that it is probable that a mechanical condition has developed, depending upon the characteristics of the change in pressure drop across the filter.

  • Patent number: 11691500
Abstract: A stabilizing arrangement of a cooling system module of a vehicle includes stabilizer pins attached to the vehicle cooling system module. Stabilizer slots are incorporated into a component of the chassis of the vehicle, such as a frame extender. The stabilizer slots may be formed as an upwards opening U-shape. Bushings are attached to the stabilizer pins. The stabilizer pins and bushings extend laterally into and engage with the stabilizer slots. Upon installation, the stabilizer pins and bushings are aligned with the stabilizer slots as the cooling system module is lowered onto the ISO mounts. The stabilizer pins and bushings slide vertically downwards into the stabilizer slots as the cooling system module is lowered into place. The simpler stabilizer pins, bushings, and stabilizer slots thereby take the place of expensive, time consuming, complex, labor intensive, and space consuming stay rod arrangements.

  • Patent number: 11605250
Abstract: A system for use with a vehicle includes at least one device installed or present onboard the vehicle and configured to sense or determine at least one condition or characteristic of the vehicle or its driver. The at least one device communicates the condition or characteristic with a remote site or web service using a wireless communication device. The remote site or web service correlates or compares the condition or characteristic of the vehicle or its driver with road conditions, capacities, facilities, and/or established safety data associated with the upcoming roadway, and determines whether the vehicle should stop or enter a facility due to an incompatibility or conflict between the condition or characteristic and the road conditions, capacities, facilities, and/or established safety data. The remote site or web service then communicates the determination of whether the vehicle should stop or enter the facility to the device on the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20220412221
Abstract: A turbocharger arrangement includes a turbine housing with multiple individual cylinder exhaust delivery scrolls, each having an individual inlet to the turbine, formed therein. The turbine housing has one individual cylinder exhaust delivery scroll for each cylinder of an engine to which the turbocharger arrangement is attached. Individual runner exhaust manifolds each connect one exhaust port of one cylinder of the engine to one of the individual cylinder exhaust delivery scrolls. The individual runner exhaust manifolds may be pipes of approximately equal length and/or equal gas flow characteristics. Separating the exhaust pulses from each cylinder with individually runner exhaust manifolds and turbine scrolls allows for enthalpy in the exhaust flow to be harnessed to a greater extent, and allows the system to be tuned for optimum energy recovery from engine cylinder blowdown.

Abstract: The Method and Apparatus of Predicting MAF Sensor Information includes training multiple candidate Artificial Neural Network (ANN) architectures using training data, and then selecting an ANN architecture from the candidates using an automated ANN architecture selection algorithm and testing data. An intelligent engine intake MAF prediction or estimation system using the selected ANN architecture then provides an engine intake Mass Air Flow (MAF) output variable, which is used along with the output of a hot-wire type engine intake MAF sensor. The system is deployed into the engine controller. The training and testing sets of data include input variables from engine sensors and/or actuators that relate to engine intake MAF, and may be acquired by testing a target engine. Selecting the optimal ANN architecture may be based on Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) analysis using the automated ANN architecture algorithm and the training set of data.

Abstract: Diesel Exhaust Fluid is metered into an engine exhaust gas aftertreatment system having a close coupled SCR catalyst and a main SCR catalyst. The DEF is injected into two injector locations, one upstream of the close coupled SCR catalyst and another upstream of the main SCR catalyst, the quantity of DEF in each injector being based on primarily the temperature at the main SCR catalyst and the mass flow of the NOx through the aftertreatment system. This method of injection enables a relatively better fuel economy outcome while meeting the regulated tailpipe NOx emission levels and the N2O formation limits.

  • Patent number: 10982627
Abstract: A system and method of controlling variable speed coolant pumps for vehicle cooling systems utilizes a controller that incorporates measured heat rejection and hydraulic system performance data of the cooling system. The controller calculates coolant flow and pressures at reduced coolant pump speeds. The controller then predicts coolant temperatures at the reduced water pump speeds, and establishes a maximum allowable heat flux to avoid boiling of the coolant. The controller then optimizes the speed of the variable speed coolant pump to prevent the coolant from exceeding the maximum allowable heat flux. The maximum allowable heat flux may be determined by keeping the heat flux within a region characterized by interface evaporation pure convection and/or within a region characterized by nucleate boiling bubbles condensing. The controller may also determine power savings created by optimizing the speed of the coolant pump.
