Abstract: Cases for electronic devices, such as an iPad, are disclosed. The cases include an integrated cleaning component configured to wipe one or more surfaces of an electronic device. In some embodiments, the integrated cleaning component is configured to automatically wipe the surface(s) of the electronic device as it is inserted into or removed from the case. The integrated cleaning component of some embodiments include strips of material configured to engage the surface of the electronic device as it is inserted and/or removed from the case and to wipe or scrub away foreign material. The cleaning component can include various different materials to target primary removal of a particular foreign material (e.g., fingerprints, dirt, dust, oils, etc.). Other embodiments provide integrated storage of the integrated cleaning component, which can easily be removed by a user to wipe the surface(s) of the electronic device.

Abstract: A method of forming foam comprising: (a) providing at least a first relatively high pressure liquid comprising a first reactive component; (b) introducing into said relatively high pressure stream a liquid blowing agent composition comprising 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (HFO-1234ze) and/or HFCO-1233zd to produce a second stream at relatively high pressure and containing said blowing agent; and (c) mixing at least a portion of said third stream with a fourth stream containing a component reactive with said first component to produce a mixed reactive stream.

Abstract: A multi-part substitution infusion fluid for an extracorporeal blood treatment and methods for using same are provided. Generally, the multi-part substitution fluid comprises a first solution composed of electrolytes but without divalent cations and a second solution comprising divalent cations. Another embodiment includes a third solution comprising a matching citrate/citric acid anticoagulant. The described methods of using the multi-part substitution infusion fluids significantly reduce risks associated with various extracorporeal blood treatments.

Abstract: An outer portion of one or more layers of microwave interactive material, which is for becoming hot when exposed to microwave energy, is arranged in a manner that seeks to advantageously control heating, so that the outer portion of the microwave interactive material can safely be adjacent the periphery of a turntable tray. The turntable tray can be heated by the microwave interactive material so that a peak thermally induced stress occurs in the turntable tray at a position proximate the periphery of the tray. The layer(s) of microwave interactive material are configured in a manner so that the peak thermally induced stress is less than a predetermined amount.

Abstract: A thermal expansion compensator is provided and includes a first electrode structure having a first surface, a second electrode structure having a second surface facing the first surface and an elastic element bonded to the first and second surfaces and including a conductive element by which the first and second electrode structures electrically and/or thermally communicate, the conductive element having a length that is not substantially longer than a distance between the first and second surfaces.

Abstract: A seal assembly, method for sealing a seal assembly and a modular seal unit for a rotating control device for use in an offshore environment. The modular seal unit includes a first outer housing, a first seal housing lockable within the first outer housing, and a first sealing element disposed on a lower end of the first seal housing. The first sealing element includes a throughbore configured to receive a drill pipe, and a sealing surface configured to seal against the drill pipe. The modular seal unit also includes a first connector configured to couple the first seal housing to the first outer housing, and a second connector configured to couple the first seal housing to one selected from a second outer housing of a second modular seal unit or a running tool adapter.

Abstract: A gas turbine engine bleed air system includes one or more fuel-actuated bleed air supply valves and, in some cases, a pneumatically actuated overpressure valve. Each fuel-actuated bleed air supply valve is mounted on a bleed air supply conduit and is coupled to a source of pressurized aircraft fuel. Each fuel-actuated bleed air supply valve is responsive to the pressurized aircraft fuel to move to a plurality of valve positions and to regulate compressed air pressure in the bleed air supply conduit, downstream of the fuel-actuated bleed air supply valve. The pneumatically actuated overpressure valve is mounted on the bleed air conduit downstream of each of the fuel-actuated bleed air valves and pneumatically regulates or shuts off pressure independent of fuel pressure or electrical signals.

Abstract: A releasable medical device connector comprises a connector fitting with a spin nut which connects to an adaptor. The connector fitting has at least one radially extending member with a variable radius cross section. The spin nut is disposed upon the connector fitting proximal of the radially extending member and is both axially slidable and rotatable upon the elongated body of the connector fitting. A screw thread within a proximal portion of the spin nut is used to secure the tapering portion of the connector fitting to an external thread disposed upon the adaptor. To release the connector, the spin nut is unscrewed from the adaptor and slid so that a distal receptacle of the spin nut engages the radially extending member of the connector fitting. With the spin nut and connector fitting engaged, the medical line can be released from the adaptor by twisting and pulling upon the spin nut.

Abstract: An interchangeable battery pack apparatus and method are disclosed which includes a top housing having a printed circuit board and a connector for electrically connecting a pair of batteries in order to provide an electrical power with respect to an external device. A bottom housing having a number of battery components for connecting the batteries can be coupled to the top housing via a fastener to form a battery pack in order to secure the batteries from a humid and corrosive environment. The battery pack can be interchangeably utilized as a replaceable battery pack and/or a ruggedized potted battery pack.

Abstract: An electric machine includes a core with a plurality of slots. Electric conductors are positioned within the slots with connection ends extending from the in-slot portions. A plurality of insulation sleeves separate the plurality of electric conductors. Each insulation sleeve substantially covers one entire conductor, including the in-slot portions and the connection ends of the conductor. A tip portion on each connection end remains uncovered by the insulation sleeve and is electrically connected to another tip portion on another conductor. Air passages are formed between the plurality of insulation sleeves at the in-slot portions and at the connection ends of the plurality of electric conductors.

Abstract: The invention provides nucleic acids, and variants and fragments thereof, obtained from strains of Bacillus thuringiensis encoding polypeptides having pesticidal activity against insect pests, including Lepidoptera. Particular embodiments of the invention provide isolated nucleic acids encoding pesticidal proteins, pesticidal compositions, DNA constructs, and transformed microorganisms and plants comprising a nucleic acid of the embodiments. These compositions find use in methods for controlling pests, especially plant pests.

Abstract: A method for making acoustic logging measurements includes grouping received acoustic waveforms into one of a plurality of groups, each group being representative of a measured borehole condition (e.g., a range of measured standoff values and/or a range of measured azimuth angles). The waveforms stored in at least one of the groups are stacked so as to obtain an averaged waveform. The averaged waveform may be further processed, for example, via a semblance algorithm to obtain at least one acoustic wave slowness.

Abstract: A pressure sensor is disclosed that can help isolate the sensor and/or sensor components from a media to be sensed and/or can help reduce sensor damage caused by harsh operating environments. In one illustrative embodiment, the pressure sensor may include a substrate having a pressure sensing die mounted on a first side of the substrate, a first housing member defining a first cavity around the pressure sensing die, and a second housing member defining a second cavity on the second side of the substrate. A passivating agent, such as a gel, can be positioned in both the first cavity and the second cavity to transmit pressure from the media to a pressure sensing element (e.g. diaphragm) while isolating the pressure sensing element and other components from the media. In some cases, the first housing member and/or the second housing member may include an opening for exposing the passivating agent to the media.

Abstract: Systems and methods for replaceable thread locking elements are provided. In one embodiment, a threaded fastener device comprises: a first member having a threaded region; a cutout within the ring shaped member that cuts across the threaded region; and a replaceable thread locking element removeably coupled to the ring shaped member within the cutout, the replaceable thread locking element comprising a displacement member coupled to a nipple via an extending member. The nipple is inserted into and orifice within the cutout, the nipple shaped to apply a force against the first member that holds the displacement member within the cutout.

Abstract: A high voltage direct current (DC) tether for an airborne wind turbine has a reduced weight compared to conventional tethers. The weight reduction is achieved by using one conductor in the center of the feeder and the shielding of the feeder as a second conductor. A mechanical strength element is disposed in between the center conductor and the shielding. In this configuration, the mechanical strength element acts also as an insulator. The center conductor and the shielding can be made of aluminum or copper. The strength element can be a high strength fiber composite, woven such as VECTRAN® or SPECTRA®. The main weight savings are due to using the shielding for multiple purposes—as a conductor, as lightning protection and as an electromagnetic interference (EMI) effects barrier, while providing strength to the tether, and from using the mechanical strength element (VECTRAN® or SPECTRA®) as an insulator. The shielding is typically used as the return conductor.

Abstract: A closed-loop method for geosteering includes acquiring logging while drilling data and processing the logging while drilling data downhole while drilling to obtain a geosteering correction (a correction to the drilling direction based upon the LWD measurements). The geosteering correction is further processed downhole to obtain new steering tool settings which are then applied to the steering tool to change the direction of drilling. These steps are typically repeated numerous times without the need for uphole processing or surface intervention.

Abstract: The image sensor package with dual substrates comprises a first substrate with a die receiving opening and a plurality of first through hole penetrated through the first substrate; a second substrate with a die opening window and a plurality of second through hole penetrated through the second substrate, formed on the first substrate. A part of the second wiring pattern is coupled to a part of the third wiring pattern; an image die having conductive pads and sensing array received within the die receiving opening and the sensing array being exposed by the die opening window; and a through hole conductive material refilled into the plurality of second through hole, some of the plurality of second through hole coupling to the conductive pads of the image sensor.
