  • Publication number: 20130054085
Abstract: A motor vehicle electrical power system provides monitoring of the connection between a vehicle battery and a direct current power source for charging the battery. A voltage transient detector determines if voltage levels on the connection between the vehicle battery and the direct current power supply exceed a minimum threshold. Additionally, a timer or low pass filter passes only voltage transients of a minimum duration. Responsive to detection of a voltage transient exceeding the minimum threshold and duration a load dump event is signaled indicating a possible transient interruption of the connection between the vehicle battery and the direct current power source has occurred.

  • Publication number: 20130030632
Abstract: Messaging in a controller area network is modified to hide thermal engine torque and angular velocity change requests originating with selected nodes with relatively low contention access priority from an engine controller and to route the messages instead through an intermediary controller which is an independent source of thermal engine torque and angular velocity change requests. More specifically, in a hybrid vehicle having a body controller with operational control over power take off equipment, a hybrid controller and a thermal engine controller, angular velocity and torque change requests to support power take off operation are embedded in auxiliary input/output messages. The hybrid controller operates on these auxiliary messages, conflating the embedded angular velocity and torque change requests with its own and rebroadcast in conventional form.

  • Publication number: 20130009465
Abstract: The loads of a vehicle electrical system are connected to a power distribution bus through a first or through first and second latching relays. A set of vehicle mandatory loads are connected to an output side of the first latching relay to be cut off from the power distribution bus upon opening of the first latching relay. A set of vehicle optional loads are connected to an output side of the second latching relay to be cut off from the power distribution bus upon opening of the first latching relay or the second latching relay. Opening and closing of the first and second latching relays depends of the values for the measured current and measured voltage.

  • Publication number: 20130001914
Abstract: A suspension system suspends an axle from a vehicle undercarriage. A mounting mounts a trailing arm for pivotal motion about a horizontal axis passing through a proximal end of the trailing arm perpendicular to the direction of vehicle travel while the vehicle is being steered in a straight line. An air spring is disposed between the undercarriage and a distal end of the trailing arm. A fastening holds fast together the middle of a resiliently flexible locating strap, the middle of the trailing arm, and the axle. A front locating bracket and a rear locating bracket fastened to the undercarriage respectively locate the front end of the locating strap horizontally in a direction parallel to the horizontal axis about which the trailing arm pivots and the rear end of the locating strap horizontally in a direction parallel to the horizontal axis about which the trailing arm pivots.
