  • Patent number: 8770643
Abstract: Motor vehicles assembled using a cutaway truck chassis may contain one or more batteries. These batteries may be accessible presenting potential for harm. The tamper resistant compartment for a battery in a passenger vehicle reduces access and visual interest that some may have in the batteries, while simultaneously providing easy access to mechanics. The tamper resistant compartment encompasses a box that is securely mounted to the chassis. The batteries inside the box may be connected to a remote battery stud and a battery shut-off switch. A movable panel integrated to the vehicle body serves as a covering and a door integrated to the movable panel provides access to the remote battery stud and battery shut-off switch.

  • Publication number: 20140165824
Abstract: A blast dissipation device for an armored vehicle includes a first absorption system and a second absorption system that are usable to dissipate initial blast forces exerted upon an underbelly of the vehicle caused by, for example, detonation of an IED below the vehicle. The second absorption system has a delayed reaction to forces exerted upon the underbelly of the vehicle. The first absorption system reacts more quickly and serves to dissipate initial forces until the second absorption system is activated to dissipate the remaining forces.

  • Patent number: 8726716
Abstract: A piston insertion force gauge tool for measuring the insertion force of a piston into a bore of a brake caliper includes a housing assembly having an inner housing member at least partially disposed in an outer housing member, where the housing members are generally coaxial and selectively displaceable along the axis. First and second end members form the ends of the gauge tool. The inner housing member is received into the outer housing member at a second open end. A measuring device extends from the second end member through a first open end and to the first end member. The measuring device displaces the inner housing member with respect to the outer housing member to indicate the insertion force imparted on the piston.

  • Publication number: 20140136038
Abstract: A method of operating a vehicle with hybrid-electric powertrain having an engine, a generator, and a battery is provided. A vehicle start input signal is received from an operator interface. A master controller initiates after receiving input from the operator interface. A secondary controller initiates after starting initiation of the master controller. A battery pack cell voltage balancing test is performed utilizing the master controller. Voltage within the battery pack cells is balanced based upon the balancing test. An isolation contactor closes after balancing the voltage within the battery pack. A signal from the master controller to the secondary controller to begin operation is generated after closing the isolation contactor. Alternately, voltage within the battery pack cells based upon results of the balancing test may take place dynamically during vehicle operation after closure of the isolation contactor.

  • Publication number: 20140130622
Abstract: A barrier assembly for a motor vehicle having a shift lever and a kit for assembling the barrier assembly are disclosed. The barrier assembly has a retainer, a lever plate, seals and spacers. The retainer has a retainer aperture extending from a first surface to a second surface. The lever plate is moveable and has a lever opening extending from a first face to a second face. A gliding surface allows the lever plate to move in a planar motion parallel to the retainer while supported on the retainer. A first seal is located on the first face of the lever plate proximal to the lever opening. A second seal is located on the first face of the lever plate distal to the lever opening. Spacers project from the retainer distal to the retainer aperture.

  • Publication number: 20140107887
Abstract: In a vehicle data network with power storage and distribution systems, a ground fault detector or ground insulation monitoring device provides detection of power leakages. Integrity of the power system is reported to a body computer connected to the data network. Responsive to detection of leakage, controllers for high voltage sub-systems report out of norm power usage compared to expected power demand. The system can take corrective actions including: indicating to the operator occurrence of a ground fault; indicating the likely to the source of the fault; reconfiguring operation of the sub-system which is the likely source of the fault, including turning the sub-system off but not otherwise restricting vehicle operation; turning the sub-system off or limiting its operation after a limited time allowing the operator to configure the vehicle for restricted operation; or, placing the vehicle in a restrictive mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 8696002
Abstract: A roll center variator is described, generally including a first transverse locating device, a second transverse locating device, an adjustable spacing mechanism, and first and second simple links attached to the spacing mechanism and a vehicle axle. Each of the transverse locating devices has two ends attached to opposing sides of a vehicle frame. The spacing mechanism is attached at a first point to the first locating device and at a second point to the second locating device. The first and second locating devices are comprised of a Watt's linkage, Panhard rod, or other transverse locating device. The variator includes a screw-threaded rod engaged with the spacing mechanism, wherein rotation of the rod in one direction increases a distance between a first point and a second point of the spacing mechanism and rotation in the opposite direction decreases the distance between the same two points.
