Patent number: 8060320Abstract: Flowmeters are described in which a sensor signal received from a sensor that is attached to vibratable flowtube, so as to determine properties of a fluid within the flowtube, contains a drive signal component and a Coriolis mode component. The flowmeters are operable to determine drive parameters of the drive signal component, as well as Coriolis parameters of the Coriolis mode component. By analyzing the sensor signal based on the drive signal parameters, and not on the Coriolis signal parameters, the flowmeters are able to provide stable and accurate determinations of the properties of the fluid.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2010Date of Patent: November 15, 2011Assignee: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventor: Manus P. Patent number: 8060222Abstract: Methods and apparatus for configuring process, environmental, industrial and other control systems generate and/or utilize models representing configurations of control systems and/or the systems controlled by them. Records of changes to the models or the configurations represented by them are maintained, thereby, for example, providing bases for determining current states, prior states and histories of changes. Objects in the model have characteristics, such as an object type characteristic and an area characteristic. Users can have corresponding permissions. A security mechanism apparatus controls access by users to the objects. Composite objects are defined by definition objects and are displayed in encapsulated or expanded formats. Objects can include an edit control type identifier that determines how they are presented for editing. Functionality responds to user commands by transferring characteristics of a first object depicted by the graphical user interface to a second object.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2008Date of Patent: November 15, 2011Assignee: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventors: Keith Eldridge, Brian Mackay, Mark Johnson, Scott Volk, Kenneth A. Patent number: 8055787Abstract: A data acquisition service on a network node is disclosed for forwarding received process data to a process history database over a potentially slow and/or intermittent network connection. A store and forward functionality within the networked node receives incoming process data via a first network interface and forwards outgoing process data via a second network interface. The disclosed store and forward functionality includes an immediate transmission cache and a store and forward storage. The store control enters, in response to detecting an entry condition, an activated mode wherein incoming process data is directed to the store and forward storage. A read control forwards outgoing process data to the second network interface from the immediate transmission cache and store and forward storage. The read control includes at least a first configurable parameter that constrains a rate at which data retrieved from the store and forward storage is forwarded via the second network interface.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2004Date of Patent: November 8, 2011Assignee: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventors: Hendrik Johannes Victor, Mikhail Avergun

Publication number: 20110259077Abstract: Descriptions are provided for implementing flowmeter zero checking techniques. In operating a flowmeter, it may be the case that, even if previously calibrated, the flowmeter will produce erroneous measurements, e.g., will indicate a non-zero flow during a period of zero flow. Therefore, zero checking features are provided that allow for fast and accurate determinations of the zero-flow values, for use in adjusting later measurements. The zero-checking features include a button attached to an exterior of a flowmeter, so that it is easily accessible to an operator of the flowmeter. The button, in conjunction with an internal zero checking system, allows for a display of a zero value in response to a request from the operator of the flowmeter.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 11, 2011Publication date: October 27, 2011Applicant: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventor: Robert E. Patent number: 8042411Abstract: A vortex flowmeter and method includes a conduit for process fluid flow and a shedder disposed within the central bore of the conduit. First and second diaphragms are mounted in inner wall portions of the conduit, on opposite sides of the shedder. A sensor is disposed externally to the conduit, and is coupled to each diaphragm with fill tubes. The diaphragms respond to pressure variations generated by vortex shedding, and transmit pulse trains through the fill tubes to a sensor. The pulse trains, which are substantially out of phase with one another, are effectively synchronized with one another by reversing phase of one pulse train.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2009Date of Patent: October 25, 2011Assignee: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventors: Joseph J. Publication number: 20110238242Abstract: A train communication system is provided for enabling communications between wayside hubs and trains operating on a track. Each wayside hub includes a block processor and at least one hub radio, with the block processor and hub radio connected via a first network. The wayside hubs are interconnected through a second network. Each train includes a train radio connected to a train control system. The block processor transmits information to the train control systems via the hub radio. If a hub includes more than one hub radio, one is selected to act as a master hub to coordinate reception and transmission of messages between the block processor and the train radios within radio range of the hub radios. Synchronization information is exchanged between an upcoming hub and a current hub for a train upon determination that the train is approaching a boundary between the hubs.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2010Publication date: September 29, 2011Applicant: INVENSYS RAIL CORPORATIONInventor: KEVIN CHRISTOPHER NICHTER

Publication number: 20110219327Abstract: A process control and manufacturing information database client application is disclosed for rendering and displaying a filtered set of received time-series data. A client application, such as a trending client that graphically displays a series of data point values for a particular observed parameter of a manufacturing process receives, via a data acquisition interface, a set of timestamped time-series data values for an observed parameter from a process control and manufacturing information database. Thereafter, the client application invokes a time-series data filter that includes/supports at least one filtering operation that is applied to the set of timestamped time-series data values to render a filtered data set for plotting/drawing on the graphical display interface. The filtered data set is thereafter rendered by a display function as a series of plotted points on a time-line graph.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 25, 2011Publication date: September 8, 2011Applicant: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventors: Elliott S. Patent number: 8015299Abstract: Disclosed is a server that provides session-persistent concurrent licenses for resources accessed by clients. In one embodiment, rather than requiring a license when the server is initially accessed, a license is not requested until a client seeks access to a licensed resource. In one implementation, scripts for Web pages associated with licensed resources include requests for licenses from a license management facility. Certain resources conditionally request a license based upon the origin of the access request: the license request may be bypassed for access requests from “pre-licensed” applications. Session-based licensing allows equitable assessment of compensation to a service provider for use of the services. The server includes many resources, some of which require a license for access while others do not. The services of premium value are the only ones for which customers are expected to obtain/claim a license.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2010Date of Patent: September 6, 2011Assignee: Invensys Systems Inc.Inventors: Barry Omshehe, Janie West, Paul W. Publication number: 20110205079Abstract: In one oil production operation, a fluid conduit transports a fluid from a wellhead to a floating production platform. To prevent an occurrence of formations that obstruct the flow of fluid in the fluid conduit, a forecast is made as to whether a flow assurance curve will intersect an operating curve of the fluid conduit. In the event that the operating curve and the flow assurance curve will intersect, the appropriate personnel may be alerted so that they may attempt to prevent the hydrate forming conditions from occurring in the pipe. Which personnel are alerted may be based on a level of criticality. The level of criticality may be based on an estimated time period remaining until the flow assurance curve and the operating curve will intersect.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 6, 2011Publication date: August 25, 2011Applicant: INVENSYS SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Stanley DeVries, Paul W.
