  • Patent number: 8573907
Abstract: A hole cutter for cutting a work piece, such as a wood and/or metal work piece, has a substantially cylindrical blade body defining a wall thickness within the range of about 0.032 inch to about 0.038 inch, and a cutting edge formed on one end of the blade body including a plurality of teeth defining an average tooth pitch within the range of about 3.5 TPI to about 5.5 TPI for cutting the work piece and forming chips therefrom. The substantially cylindrical blade body and cutting edge define an average tooth pitch to blade body thickness ratio of at least about 110.

  • Patent number: 8567071
Abstract: A utility knife comprises a blade carrier movable between retracted, extended and positions. A latch is movable with the blade carrier for locking the blade carrier in position. The blade carrier comprises a locking tab movable between a first position where the locking tab is engaged with the blade and a second position where the locking tab is released from the blade. An actuator moves the locking tab from the first position to the second position when the blade carrier is in the intermediate position and the actuator is moved to the unlocked position. The latch is engageable with a holder when the blade carrier is in the intermediate position. A retention member holds the blade on the plate where the retention member cannot be inserted into a notch on the blade. A blade guide guides the blade between the retention member and the plate.

  • Patent number: 8539677
Abstract: A utility knife comprises a first housing portion carrying a strike plate and a second housing portion movable relative to the first housing portion between a closed position and an open position. The second housing portion carries a locking member. An overlapping locking mechanism locks the first housing portion to the second housing portion in a first direction when the first housing portion is moved relative to the second housing portion in a second direction. The locking member is movable between a first position in which it engages the strike plate to prevent the first housing from moving relative to the second housing in the first direction and a second position in which it does not engage the strike plate and allows the first housing to move relative to the second housing in the first direction.

  • Patent number: 8539680
Abstract: A utility knife includes a first housing portion carrying one of a strike plate and a sliding nut assembly and a second housing portion carrying the other one of the strike plate and the sliding nut assembly. The sliding nut assembly includes a rotatable screw and a sliding nut. The sliding nut is movable between a first position where the sliding nut is positioned behind the strike plate and a second position where the sliding nut is positioned spaced from the strike plate. When the sliding nut is in the first position, the sliding nut engages the strike plate upon rotation of the screw to draw the first housing portion toward the second housing portion.

  • Patent number: 8522443
Abstract: A cutting tool comprises a first cutting edge and a second cutting edge movable into engagement with one another. The first cutting edge comprises an edge tip extending along at least a portion of the cutting edge. The edge tip has a geometry that lowers the cutting force required to cut hard articles and minimizes damage to the cutting edge. The edge tip has a flat end face defining a first edge and a second edge. A first side face extends from the first edge and a second side face extends from the second edge where the first side face and the second side face extend at an angle relative to one another such that the first side face and the second side face diverge as they extend away from the flat end face.

  • Patent number: 8434390
Abstract: A wrench has a socket defined by a plurality of flat faces and a handle. A first threading tool is provided having a shape and dimension to fit into the socket. An adapter that retains a second threading tool includes a connector having the same shape and the dimension as the first threading tool that fits into the socket. A retaining member is rotatably mounted to the body for movement between a first position and a second position for locking the adapter and the die in the socket. The retaining member has a second plurality of flat faces defining an opening where the second plurality of faces are coextensive with the faces of the socket when the retaining member is in the first position and are offset from the faces of the socket when the retaining member is in the second position.

  • Patent number: 8430383
Abstract: A clamp comprising a bar supporting a movable jaw having a first support surface. The bar is slidably received in a jaw body and the jaw body supports a fixed jaw. A support is slidably disposed on the bar and has a second support surface that is coplanar with the first support surface such that the clamp can be supported on the first support surface and the second support surface on a surface. In one method of operating the clamp a work piece is positioned directly on the bar. In another method of operating the clamp the movable jaw is moved relative to the fixed jaw and is stopped by the engagement of the support with the body.

  • Patent number: 8402833
Abstract: A gauge includes a housing and a fitting having an inlet, an internal flow path, and an outlet. A sensor is in fluidic communication with the internal flow path and measures a characteristic of a fluid in the flow path. A control unit is in electrical communication with the pressure sensor, receives an output from the pressure sensor and generates a command based on the output received. A stepper motor has a rotor shaft with an indicator needle operatively connected thereto, and is in electrical communication with the control unit. A power supply is in electrical communication with the pressure sensor, the motor and the control unit for supplying power thereto. The control unit transmits the command to the stepper motor, which receives the command from the control unit and drives the rotor shaft according to the command, displaying the sensed characteristic via the needle.
