Abstract: Systems and methods configured for outputting light having a polarization state distribution that is spatially uniform by applying a correction to, for example, a beam of light with a spatially uniform polarization state distribution that has been altered (unintentionally or otherwise) to become spatially non-uniform are described. A projection system can include an optical element and a polarization-altering device (PAD). The optical element can cause a polarization of light in the projection system to be spatially non-uniform. The PAD can change the polarization state distribution of the light spatially based on an amount of spatial non-uniformity on the light caused by the optical element and before the light enters the optical element. The projection system can output the light having a spatially uniform polarization state distribution.

  • Publication number: 20130091164
Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for recommending data based on user and data attributes. User information and accessed data sets are periodically (and possibly automatically) accessed and updated. Source attributes are derived from user information and accessed data sets. Target attributes are derived from data directories and data services. Source attributes for an accessed data set are used along target attributes for a data directory or data service to determine the desirability of data directory or data service as a source of data relevant to the accessed data set. The data directory and/or data service can be recommended as able to provide relevant data. Accordingly, recommend relevant data can be recommended to a user without the user having to expressly search for the relevant data or even know that the relevant data exists.

Abstract: A semiconductor laser that includes a single mode semiconductor laser coupled to a flared power amplifier is provided, the device including an internal or an external optical element that reinforces the curved wave front of the flared section of the device through phase-matching. By reinforcing the curved wave front via phase-matching, the device is less susceptible to thermal and gain-index coupled perturbations, even at high output powers, resulting in higher beam quality. Exemplary phase-matching optical elements include a grating integrated into the flared amplifier section; an intra-cavity, externally positioned binary optical element; and an intra-cavity, externally positioned cylindrically curved optical element.

Abstract: In one embodiment, micro-loops are avoided in ring topologies of packet switching devices by changing the order of propagation of link state information concerning failed communications between a particular packet switching device and a neighbor packet switching device. In one embodiment, the particular packet switching device communicates link state information of a high cost of the particular communications (e.g., in the direction from particular to neighbor packet switching devices) such that this link state information will propagate towards the particular packet switching device from at least from the furthest packet switching device in the ring topology that is currently configured to forward packets having a destination address of the neighbor packet switching device through the particular packet switching device.

  • Publication number: 20130091337
Abstract: During compilation, a table mapping relative virtual address of a memory-allocating instruction of a native language program to a user type of the instance is created. During execution of the program, a module injected into the process intercepts calls to memory allocating functions and records the virtual address of the instruction calling the memory allocating function and the virtual address of the instance created. When a snapshot of the process heap is requested, the user type of the corresponding compile time instruction is assigned to the created instance. User type and heap information can he used to compute sizes of memory allocations and to aggregate user type instance counts and sizes. Using the static debugging information, a reference graph that displays the nesting of objects in live instances can be computed and displayed.

  • Publication number: 20130087691
Abstract: An input device capable of lowering the vertical position of light beams traveling within the frame of a frame-shaped optical waveguide without using optical path conversion is provided. The input device includes a light-emitting module incorporating a light-emitting element connected to light-emitting cores of the optical waveguide, and a light-receiving module incorporating a light-receiving element connected to light-receiving cores of the optical waveguide. A section of the optical waveguide on a light-receiving side, in which the light-receiving cores are formed, is placed upside down so that an over cladding layer is positioned on the underside. Accordingly, the light-receiving module is also placed upside down. Thus, the light-receiving module protrudes along the height thereof in such a manner that the amount of downward protrusion is less than the amount of upward protrusion.

  • Patent number: 8416903
Abstract: Double data rate (“DDR”) circuitry or the like is modified or enhanced to include edge detection capability. During edge detection mode the circuitry is supplied with serial training data that includes successive pairs of equal-valued bits. Several, differently-phased, candidate clock signals are used one after another in order of increasing phase to clock the DDR circuitry. Adjacent bits in the training data that should be equal-valued are captured by the DDR circuitry and compared. Any candidate clock signal that causes the bits thus compared to be unequal is flagged as having phase close to edges in the data. The approximate phase of data edges is thereby indicated by the phase (or phases) of the candidate clock signal (or signals) causing the bits compared as described above to be unequal.
