Publication number: 20130024415Abstract: A method for monitoring the condition of an object includes obtaining reference data that indicates the normal operational state of the object, and obtaining input pattern arrays. Each input pattern array has a plurality of time-ordered input vectors, while each input vector has input values representing a plurality of parameters indicating the current condition of the object. Then at least one processor generates estimate values based on a calculation that uses an input pattern array and the reference data to determine a similarity measure between the input values and reference data. The estimate values are compared to the corresponding input values so that resulting values from the comparison can be used to determine the condition of the object.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2011Publication date: January 24, 2013Applicant: SmartSignal CorporationInventor: James P. Publication number: 20130024361Abstract: A multi-stage filtering process and system for fraud detection is disclosed. The multi-stage filtering process allows for the ability to dynamically increase/decrease server capacity, as well as application capacity to support fraud detection activities. The system monitors the queues of the transactions being made using various channels, and responds by adjusting the server and application resources needed for performing pre-filtering on the transactions in the queues. The invention allows for the fraud detection systems to maintain the capacity necessary to examine, at some level, if one or more of the transactions being processed by a financial institution are potentially fraudulent. The capacity can be changed during times of high and low volumes, thus allowing the allocation of resources based on transaction volume, which reduces the computing, energy, labor, etc. costs associated with fraud detection systems without losing the ability to detect almost all of the fraudulent transactions occurring.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2011Publication date: January 24, 2013Applicant: BANK OF AMERICA CORPORATIONInventors: Somnath Choudhuri, Daniel Bodalski, Matthew Hoke, Sethu V. Publication number: 20130019695Abstract: Described is an apparatus for reducing a temperature variation of a liquid chromatography sample. A tray drive using at least one of linear or rotational motion moves a sample tray along a path inside a sample compartment of the liquid chromatography system. A control module coordinates the movement of the sample tray by the tray drive and the movement of a sample needle by a needle drive so that any sample in the sample tray can be injected into the mobile phase of the system during a sample load operation. The tray drive is also used to move the sample tray along the path during a temperature averaging period when no loading occurs. Differences in sample temperatures due to variations in the air temperature at different locations inside the sample compartment are reduced, leading to more accurate and repeatable chromatographic measurement results.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2011Publication date: January 24, 2013Applicant: WATERS TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATIONInventors: Joshua A. Patent number: 8358643Abstract: A communication method for reducing Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection setup time in an Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) includes the step of using an inclusive Signalling Radio Bearer (iSRB) in place of a plurality of individual Signalling Radio Bearers (indSRBs) for transferring signals from Radio Resource Control (RRC) to Medium Access Control (MAC). A Protocol Discriminator (PD) is added to the tail (right side) of each indSRB at the RRC for allowing the MAC to identify each indSRB as received in the iSRB. The PD is needed because the MAC would otherwise be unable to place each indSRB into the appropriate prioritizing queue for trans-mission to the physical layer. The PD is stripped off at the MAC. A preferred embodiment uses the iSRB in place of four individual indSRBs (SRB1, SRB2, SRB3 and SRB4), but in an alternative form the Unacknowledged Mode SRB (SRBI) would not be present in the system and therefore not included in the iSRB.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2007Date of Patent: January 22, 2013Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Jagdeep Singh Ahluwalia

Patent number: 8359635Abstract: A system, method, and program product is provided that allows new privileges to be dynamically added to an operating system. Entities are assigned roles and these roles are associated with various authorizations. Authorizations are associated with privileges, including the new privilege. A request is received to dynamically add the new privilege to the operating system. The operating system then dynamically adds the new privilege to the system. A software service is installed that requires the new privilege. A request to execute the installed software service is received from an entity that is running on the operating system. The operating system allows the entity to execute the installed software service in response to determining that the entity has been granted the privilege. However, if the entity has not been granted the new privilege, then the operating system inhibits execution of the software service by the entity.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2008Date of Patent: January 22, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Saurabh Desai, Murali Vaddagiri
